Becoming a Drupal Git Vetted user is an interesting process where we learn how to write secure code, various coding standards, best practices for the development, familiarity with proper usage of the Drupal APIs, and promoting collaboration over competition (i.e., not duplicating functionality already available in other modules).

The most difficult part of this process is to find out what functionality can be built as most of the the features are already there in Drupal. Sometimes after building the complete module and submitting it for review process, we come to know that similar kind of functionality is already there. So it becomes one of the most important part of the process to search thoroughly whether the functionality which we are planning to build already exists or not as Drupal community believe in collaboration over competition.

Generally it takes atleast 3-4 weeks to become the git vetted user provided you are proactively involved in the community.

The 7th Year with Tekriti - Most Beautiful!!

Today I have completed 7 wonderful years with Tekriti. And this, 7th year, was one of the most beautiful!!! The number 7 is quite luck for me although I don't believe in luck. My date of birth contains four 7s. :)

It started with my US trip and I spent couple of really wonderful months there. Along with the whole fun there, I learnt to cook, which I was always wanted to learn. :)

During this period, I worked on many good projects, American City and County, BEEF Magazine, Chief Marketer, Contractor Magazine, Electrical Construction and Maintenance (EC and M) Magazine, EHS Today.com, Fire Chief, Fire Protection Engineering, Fleet Owner Magazine, Food Management, Hay & Forage Grower, Hydraulics and Pneumatics, IndustryWeek, Microwaves and RF, National Hog Farmer, Restaurant Hospitality, Supermarket News, WealthManagement.com, American Machinist, Forging Magazine, Foundrymag, Broadcast Engineering for a client. This was quite challenging and wonderful experience.

I also bought my dream home in this year. I never thought that I will buy a home in this age. This is one of the biggest things of my life!

Finally I started contributing in Drupal community. So far I have made dozen of commits in various modules. The modules are Hostip, Thank You Commenter, jform_label and Google Image Sitemap. It's really satisfying experience. After all I am working in Drupal from last 7 years.

Thanks to everybody for making my 7th year with Tekriti n all so wonderful...!!!

Enjoying My 6th Year With Tekriti

Today I have completed 6 memorable years with Tekriti... and the best part is that I am enjoying it. :)

I still remember that evening when I got first call from Tekriti for an interview, discussions with Manish and interview questions with Ashish and Gaurav. I wanted to join Tekriti because I loved the fact that it's started by IITians who had worked in Microsoft n wanted to do something big back in India and Tekriti's previous logo, having tagline, "leading by energy". The good part is that it's now becoming big and can sustain in all circumstances!

I must like to mention about Ashish G., who is my manager and mentor. When he is around, you feel energetic! I like his calmness. I have never seen him shouting on anybody. Everybody should get a manager like him..

It's like second home to me where I pass my maximum time while awake.. Would love to grow older with it and share it's success in coming times... :)

5 successful years with Tekriti!

It's like a dream come true! When I left my last company before 5 years, after working their for 5 years, I dreamed to complete atleast 5 years with my next company and today I completed my 5 years with Tekriti. Today I am happy because I have no regrets, no complaints etc. but just the sense of achievement, pride in saying that I have completed 5 years with Tekriti.

It's been a great journey with Tekriti so far and hope for the best in coming time.. I am the second oldest employee in the company after "Viplab Sarkar" who has just completed his 5 years before 2 months. Tekriti has changed a lot since I joined it. There were less than 10 employess when I joined the company and now there are 80-90 employees. Most of the faces are new. I think we are growing quite fast so far and hopefully will grow much faster in coming years. The best is yet to come.

One of the best thing about the Tekriti is that it allows you to grow as much as you can. Whether you love it or hate it, it's been a great company to work with. I always liked NIIT's slogan "If you are not studying at NIIT you are missing something" similarly if you are not working with Tekriti then you are missing something. Wishing all the very best to all the Teknokrats..!

Today I have completed 3 wonderful years with Tekriti. After reading the first sentence, it sounds like Tekriti is my girl friend. :) Actually Tekriti is my company where I am enjoying my life!

It's been really wonderful experience so far. Since yesterday, I am just remembering my last 3 years and it feels like a great time with Tekriti. Celebrations are part of work here.

2 years with Tekriti!!

Today I have completed my 2 years with Tekriti. When you are enjoying your life then it looks too short when you look back. The same is here with my 2 years in Tekriti. I look at my 2 years with Tekriti as having great fun and doing lots of challenging work.

At the last I would like to say only one thing that I will not consider myself doing good job unless I, with the help of my team, take the GoingOn to the list of well known social networking platforms.

One year with Tekriti...

After Nibha, Isha, Viplab, Sunil and Ratika one more TeknoKrat has completed one year with Tekriti. It's me.

It's really a great experience.

Some Positive Points: :-)
1) I am working with genius people.
2) I am working on one of biggest project (GoingOn) of the company.
3) I like the concept of 1:1 sessions, TekInnovate day, Tekfriday, Sharing forums, Moral events, Birthday celebrations.
4) I like the company culture as we have the option to grow as much as we can and there is no politics involved.
5) We have the option to do personal emails, chatting, listening to music etc as far we are doing our work on time. Not all the companies allow this.

Some Negative Points: :-(
1) Company shifted to far away from my home. Initially I reach within 5 minutes now it takes around 20-25 minutes.
2) I miss my 1:1 sessions.
3) I haven't done almost nothing except my work for the company.
4) There should be more stress killing activities in the company like games etc.

Think beyond you

We can grow by doing good work but we also need to think beyond us. Our work is bare minimum, which is expected from us to make you stand. We are supposed to do much more than the work given to us. Everything else matters. For example how are we adding value to the company, our team and others in the company. We need to think beyond ourself to grow at the speed we want. Otherwise we will grow at the speed what others think.

We should keep trying to analyse and experiment various things for the growth of all around us. Even a smal contribution done by us makes a lot of difference in others life. This will also give us personal satisfaction. I think, we as an individual can never grow if we don't think about all around us.

100 reasons to worry, no reason for happiness?

In our daily life, we have hundreds of reasons to worry. If we say it in another way, there are so many things which make us tensed, stressed. Most of time, we are in stressed mode. We just keep worrying about this or that thing.

We all have so many things to worry but don't we have even one reason to be happy which may keep us happy all the day, despite so many reasons of worry. We might need to learn how to live in this streessful world. Whatever you say, but at the of the day, if you compare, how much time you felt happy or worried then in most of will found that life is full of tensions. Even single issue can keep us worried for whole day.

I just want to say that despite all the worries of life, we should keep searching for reasons of happiness and try to be happy most of the time.

People are making money or Loosing culture

Today, we, Teknokrats, shared our thoughts about this topic in Sharing Forums. The conclusion was that we are adopting new culture as per the need rather loosing it. But later, this thought came in my mind, which I think can be related with this topic.

I think, most of us have fallen into the race of making money. Everybody wants to earn name and fame very quickly, so, everybody is doing more and more work. But as a result, we are not finding enough time for our relationships. Or you can say, money making has taken higher priority than relationships. So my feeling is that we are loosing our culture to make more money...

I think, we all need to think again that where we are going. Is this what we want?

Growing with Tekriti

Here are some of the achievements / experiences while working with Tekriti since last one year.

1) LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) - I have almost never worked on Linux before. So it was little difficult changeover from windows to linux as I was working on windows from last 8 years. But now I get used to working with linux and feel comfortable developing web applications on it.

2) CMS Training (Drupal) - When I joined Tekriti, I don't know much about Content Management System. But now, I know sufficient to provide training sessions on CMS to new joinees in Tekriti.

3) Strict Coding Standards - I have initiated the process to follow strict coding standards (w3c, code formating) as some of the developers are not following it. Our GoingOn team was first to announce that GoingOn code follows 100% W3C standards.

4) Web 2.0 - In my last company, I was working with the traditional way of web development. But at Tekriti, I come to know about web 2.0 technologies (ajax, rss, social networks, cms etc.). Here we are using web 2.0 technologies in our web applications and also integrating with other third party web 2.0 technologies like Newsgator, Salesforce, Opinity, Eurekster etc. in our web applications.

5) Client Communication - Tekriti has given me an opportunity to interact with clients. I do written communicate with client using e-mails. I think, it's bit difficult to write an e-mail to client than code because you can't do hit and trials there.

6) Working with Genius People - Last but the most important, yes, it's true that I am working with genius people. I think, this is the most important thing in any body's career. If you are not working with right people then you can't grow with the speed you want. You get lots of energy, enthusiasm and passion when you are working with genius people.

I would like to specifically mention here some of the names who are directly responsible for my growth are Ashish, Gaurav and Manish. I also like to thank all the Teknokrats for my growth.

My Biggest Achievement

I think my biggest achievement in my life is my true friendship with my friends. I can say proudly that I have true friends in my life. I know friends are born not made. But we just can't say that achievements are only related to materialistic things. I think whatever we earn or get in this life is our achievement. Not everybody has true friend in his / her life. You may have good friends but it really matters if they are truly yours. There is nothing like having a true friend in your life.

May God give everybody a true friend for whole life...

What do I like most about GoingOn

The best thing I like about GoingOn system is that I can set up my own social networks on the fly. I have the option to configure them the way I want. I think it's one of the best feature of GoingOn. I have the option to invite editors so that they can write good content and administrators so that they can manage my network, if needed. I have created two social networks there Help (to help GoingOn members) and Pics (my hobby to collect nice pictures).

As a design prospective, I like member page of the members most. Because I can see all details of the person there like his profile, connections, networks, blog (GoingOn / External), interests, media gallery, testimonials, comments by him on various posts, tags, blog roll, flickr / del.icio.us feeds and so many other things. Look and feel of the member page is really cool. I just love it.

We All Are Born To Win

"Every child is a new thought of God". We must recognise, that nobody esle is like us. No one else has exactly our family background and experiences. No one else has our fingerprints, our voice or our genetic code. No one else has our brain, talent, capability and skill. We are unique. Hence we must do something remarkable in our life. We must feel that we have come into this world for some specific purpose. We should know our value. Each one of us is a sort of a rough diamond. It just needs to be dusted off and polished. Hence every person is created by God to succeed in life.

Sharing Forums - CEO

In our company, we do sharing forums session on each thursday. Here all the teknokrats except managers talk about some pre-decided topic. It's quite interesting and we all enjoy it.

Last time, we discussed about CEO means if you are given a chance to become CEO of the company, what would you like to do? Here are some of points given by me.

Games - I think, most of the employees feel little tired, sleepy, boring after lunch hours or in the evenings. Atleast they are not so energetic as they are in the morning. Games are the best way to re-energise us. Otherwise the work output is not as high as in the morning hours. So to get maximum output, we need to provide some games like table tennis in the company.

Presentations on Latest Technologies - There must be 10 min. presentation session daily on latest technologies. Every employee in the company has to prepare for it and give presentation on it during his/her turn. So each day, we will come to know about latest technologies which will definetly give us lots of energy. This way, each employee will learn so many things like presentations skills, information search and analysis skills, confidence building etc. These daily 10 min. sessions can benifit to company a lot.

6 Hour Work - I don't think so that we can get more output by working long hours. Here 6 hours means the whole time devoted to work. That means all other personal things like lunch, net surfing, mail checking, phone calls etc. will not be part of 6 hours. Here the 6 hour work will be decided by employee and his/her senior as sufficent work for the day. Are we really living a good life by working long hours like machines?

As we have to speak for only 1-2 minutes per person so I have taken the points, which I thought might not be taken by others.

Holi Hai

Best Thing of the Day

Recently I have started a small project in our company where Teknokrats can post views about their best things of the day. So far it doesn't get much response but the best thing is that I have started thinking about what I have done best today. The feeling of achieving small good things in daily life gives lot of encouragement, energy and motivation.

I think anybody feel better at the end of the day when the person will count what he achieved today or what was the best thing of the day.

Layman

Recently, somebody asked me, what a layman or beginner can do on computers? I thought a little bit and then said, you can listen to music, play games, chatting with friends, e-mails, search and read about topics you like. I also told that person you may also like to do blog post (online diary) and you would definetly like to use google earth. I think these are things, most people like to do using computers.

I think there are very limited no. of interesting applications for beginners or may be I don't about others. A middle-aged person may not like to use computers for music (can use his music player), games (mostly meant for yonugsters), chatting/e-mailing (might have no online friends).

So I think, if somebody start thinking in this direction, may come up with some cool interesting stuff for beginners and can get huge success...

New Year Resolution - 2006

Yesterday, I read in a newspaper that we should not keep our new year resolutions secret because if we tell it to others, then others will keep asking about our resolutions and our ego will help us to keep these up. I have planned to join gym in the morning session within a week. I have never gone to gym in my life so far and never liked to get up early in the morning. So I am trying to do two good things together, habbit of getting up early in the morning and exercise. Hope I will try to keep this resolution up for my whole life...

I am not shocked, even I could not believe so far that my naanu (grandfather) is no more. Either I am living in my own virtual world or it's common thing that you do not believe on when someone, who is very close to your heart, dies. I have seen his dead body and cremation but still could not believe that he is no more between us. He was full of knowledge. I have never seen such a intelligent person in my life. He was the person who did a lot for me after my parents.

But the truth of life is that it goes on even after the closed one's goes out of your life. Sometimes we feel satisfied with all the relations we have but then also God keeps adding or removing relations from our life, I don't know why...

I think Feedbacks are one of the most important thing of our life, yet we don't take it from others. Feedback is neccessary everywhere like in relationship, company, product etc. We can't improve the things in best way if we don't take feedbacks from others. For anything to be successful, feedback is neccassary. Feedback is the best tool to improve the things.

I think either their should be some system for feedbacks or we should take it from others regularly. If we are not taking feedback from others regularly then we are missing something in our life.
