We’ve been miserable. We’re pathetic messes. Can’t really tell in the pictures though.

Me and Alan seem more so than Isabelle. She only seems bad at night when she’s laying there coughing and whimpering. But during the day she’s popping all over the place, happy and normal like usual, with an occasional cough.

On Saturday, Alan let me sleep in because I was coughing through the night. We weren’t planning to go anywhere. We didn’t even want to do anything. All my plans: making red, white and blue star soaps and confetti popper rockets… out the window. We thought we’d sit on the couch, doing nothing. Whoo hoo how exciting.

But then at the last minute we decided to go watch some fireworks. We drove into the next town only a few exits away and Isabelle fell asleep immediately. It’s the coughing through the night. Even though she seems fine, she’s obviously short on sleep.

Luckily we arrived early so we let her sleep for a while before heading off. We’ve never been there to watch fireworks before so we had to find a spot. We didn’t search for long because my belly was getting uncomfortable, all hard. I think it was a braxton hicks contraction. Funny, my belly has done that before but I always thought it was the baby until I read differently this weekend.

We may as well have stayed home. We watched a bit.

Then Isabelle complained about the noise, wanting to go home.

So, home we went.

That night I got even less sleep. About four hours after laying down, the coughing kicked in big time, every few minutes. After an hour of that, I gave up on sleep, and got up. A couple of hours later, after some tea and honey, I thought I’d try sleep again. But Isabelle had different ideas. She was up. After a few zombie hours for me, Alan got up, and I went back to sleep to wake up to an empty house.

Alan had brought Isabelle to the store. They came back with a water gun.

We played with water balloons, shooting each other with the water gun, and splashed around. Basically getting all wet when we’re sick. Yep, smart.

And now Isabelle’s out way earlier then usual AND on her own too.

And that is why I haven’t finished fixing my cow shirt. Or why I haven’t finished with this knitted flower:

What? You say, you don’t see a knitted flower? Well that’s because Isabelle is wearing it around her neck. It’s the big collar looking pink thing. Isabelle calls it her flower necklace. I knit it up while skyping with my sister. Video chat is so cool. She was stuck on the pattern and needed my help so we just skyped each other.

And now I’m too tired to finish it. Or I should say, I’m too tired to look for a knitting needle to finish it. I could sit there on the couch all day but getting up to look for something? Wears me out just thinking about it.

Oh, and I just found out, it makes a nice crown too.

Though for the life of me I couldn’t get Isabelle to take a serious picture.

I don’t know where my brain is.

Because, yes, I cut willy nilly, not being very exact. That doesn’t work, really it doesn’t. And for some reason I was perfectly convinced that even though I wasn’t being exact, the shirt would come out fine. No, perfect even.

What was I thinking? I didn’t even mark my dots. The result: a shirt with the neckline askew and too much poofing. It makes me look like a big freaking COW. My sister said, well you’re pregnant. Yeah but my other clothes don’t make me feel like a cow.

Ok just joking with the drawing. I didn’t choose cow fabric. It’s a nice black, white, and yellow linen.

But it still made me feel like a cow. Mooooo!!!

And like all toys, or in this case a bonnet, if she hasn’t seen it in a while it’s like it’s NEW. She was happily playing with it, posing, and asking us to tie it on her head. But it’s too small for her. She’s outgrown the baby bonnet.

So, I thought I’d make her a new one. I let her choose the fabric all by herself.

She chose this pink fabric that was leftover from the log cabin quilt blocks I made ages ago. When she chose it I didn’t realize I didn’t have quite enough fabric left. I had to make the inner brim of the bonnet using two pieces but it’s barely noticeable.

And the inside fabric was leftover from this top.

But you know what took the longest? The ribbon. Not that it was hard to sew but I couldn’t find any! It took several foraging expeditions in the wilds of my crafting stash. I finally found my ribbon under bags and bags of yarn. But you gotta love a quick little project from the stash, no new materials to buy.

I finally finished the bonnet days and days later. Isabelle was so happy. She said, “oh for me? Oh thank you mama!” and gave me a big hug then played happily with it for ummmm not long enough considering the time I took to make it. Oh well. She’ll see it at some future date and it’ll be new again. Hopefully it’ll still fit her then.

Ok let me leave you with a picture of Isabelle when we got home.

She’s stuffing her face because she was hungry. And that’s because she happily played for hours, not even stopping for pizza or a chance at churros. I don’t know why she does that. I enjoy playing too but I do so enjoy eating as well. She played and played and played. She didn’t want to leave until we told her she could sleep over. Then she started to cry saying, “I’ll miss you mama.” That got her ready to leave quick as can be. I feel so loved.
