Hi. Kunk is very busy preparing some stuff, so blogging, unfortunately, again had to wait. This is not a super unique post either and I’m usually not doing it like this but now I’m just gonna share some remixes I really liked in the past couple weeks. Kinda trying to set stuff to the winter-mood we have here. You know, fog and rain and colder than fall should be. I’m in between dancefloor-exploding hotness that melts the coming snow and the ice-queen coolness and beauty that has its home in the clouds around the mountaintops. So my choices are: Yeah Yeah Yeahs remixed by A-Trak. This one is huge, I know, I’m surprised I like it because I never liked A-Trak but this mix kills it. Another one is by Treasure Fingers who entered the remix contest for Little Boots‘ Earthquake. Epicwave remix indeed. Talking about dancefloor-killers, the brilliant Russ Chimes did it again with Marina and the Diamonds. Closer to the coldness, Siriusmo’s laid-back mix of Chromeo’s new single is an awesome ’summer is dead’ tune. The XX would be definetely cool background music for a winter video, probably fashion-y kids holding hands and trying to make things work in a ski camp or something. Rory Phillips‘ mix stays on the XX mood and makes it an abstract dance track. Au Revoir Simone and Neon Indian is a great pair, the latter’s remix of Another Likely Story bears a beautiful dream-like quality. Thanks for the tracks to various blogs around.

You’ve undoubtedly got some serious full court press-ness about Binary’s LA Lights release. It’s chock-full of romance electro aka dreamwave aka however you wanna slice it. In fact, the very last post on this blog referenced the stellar Mmmathias remix of NightWaves‘ “Fascination”. Well, we Kunkers say one good turn deserves another, so we’d like to debut another remix of the very same track. This one hit especially close to home as it’s laid down by a Hungarian who is part of our local Ektiv management crew, We Plants are Happy Plants – or WPAHP if the first is too much of a mouthful for ya.

A typical WPAHP track can be identified by its soaring build-up and dreamy, creamy middle. This edit won’t disappoint those expecting similar. The vocals have been lushed up and the song as a whole is elongated into blissful melodic meditation. Not a dancefloor banger by any stretch but nonetheless sublime. We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again, We Plants is on an awesome upward trajectory and leading the way toward little ‘ole Hungary making waves amongst the more established Western European and North American markets.

We should also point out that WPAHP is to have his video for his “Sell Your Soul” track made as part of the ongoing Red Bull ‘Made In Garage’ talent quest. It’ll be playlisted on Hungarian MTV, premiering soon. Right on!

One of Kunk’s favourite German producers, MMMatthias just sent us some tracks. One original and two remixes. His own track, Lies, is an awesome broken/sliced/chopped-up weird post-disco tune, following the Ed Bangerists like Justice and SebastiAn. Of course, Ed Banger is kinda under the radar now, not nearly as cool as it was 2 years ago but a comparison still can’t hurt and MMM’s track is from late 2007 anyway. Still sound fresh and new. Newer stuff includes a remix for a track on Boys Noize’s Power. Haven’t heard the original yet cause never was a big fan of BN but the remix is really surprising. It’s abstract spacey stuff. I mean, it’s not surprising because of MMM cause he can do things like this but wondering how is he able to transform the basically banging industrial electro of BN. As a result, it made me curious about Power. Third track is a remix of NightWaves which is on Binary’s LA Lights compilation that you can buy anywhere on the net now. Fascination is the weirdest of the 3 tracks I’m sharing now. It sounds even a bit tribal with the congas and the undecipherable vocals and has these strange otherworldy synth emerging from stellar dust. Actually, I could imagine this track for a Spore soundtrack. So all hail MMMatthias, he deserves it, this is truly unique and exciting production.

Btw. if any of you are interested in a good spot for tonight in Budapest, tonight is the night of the Room magazine’s release party @ Merlin. It’s an anniversary, we’re going to celebrate the 10th issue. Music-wise, DJs include Waxman, Zagar, Cécile Togni (FR), and our humble selves, Kunk. Flyer below.

We’ve been posting the shit out of London’s 3-piece nu-dance space-disco synth band, Heads We Dance. In June, they had their first full-lenght out, called Love Technology which title already sets the floor for complicated virtual love triangles in mmorpgs and between robots on space ships in other galaxies. Yep, human alienation has really deep consequences. Now, HWD just recently collected their best remixes into a remix album, titled it Dance Technology and made it available as a free download at their site! Go for it while it’s hot! One of my favourites is the Tepr rework of Love in the Digital Age. It’s nice and dark, mean and chopped up. Told ya, alienation. Remember this word. No, not while watching District 9. Or maybe. Vocals are epic, even Interpol or Editors epic with the small twist of being totally influenced by Soft Cell or whatever 80s stuff along these lines. Tepr created an awesome subtle banger.

I have to admit, I’m a sucker for garage rock either with single male/female vocals or combined. The Kills’s latest album were my favourite of the last year. Now, I know that a lot of criticism might hit them cause of some lack of novelty or whatever, but The Raveonettes just caught my heart again with In and Out of Control. Lot of time passed since their first shoegaze-noise influenced release and they went in a more cute direction, still drawing on the My Bloody Valentine, etc tradition. Of course, their cut pop is still dressed in screaming guitars and Kim Gordon-esque vocals and for me, it has an interesting atmosphere of thick fog that surrounds the sound and the vocals emerge from it. This is pop music for the fall, for rainy days, for cloudy sky. Guitar whirlwinds and erratic rhythms alternate with shadowy singing and claps. The fusion of grotesque humor, sexuality and ‘not giving a shit’ is dominant in the teen-hymn lyrics and the contrast between innocence and heavy themes is nicely played. Not saying that it’s teen stuff but it’s stuff that teens could adore, I guess. The Raveonettes managed to make a record that is in between their noise-drive and the innocence of Chain Gang of Love.

The Raveonettes - Gone Forever [mediafire] // [ysi]

ps. anyone else had the disturbing feeling of Boys Who Rape… that the girl vocals are a bit like Enya’s Only Time?

On a more blogosphere friendly note, I decided to share a Los Feeling remix. I know, most of you probably had enough of it but still, there is some beauty to these tracks that explode on the net, returning again and again with new reworks and a change of clothes. This time, Clockwork sent us his best effort at transforming the track. We’ve been posting about him for like a year and he still can’t be much more than 18. His remix works with really nice dynamics, the vocal-standout part is an awesome prelude to the hypnotically beating chopped-up part, and they alternate tastefully. I’m not totally sold on VISITOR but whatever, Los Feeling is just gonna be one of the biggest blog-hits of the year and probably dominates dancefloors all around. Give them love on myspaces and keep an eye out for anything upcoming by LA wonderboy, Clockwork.

(Getting back to blogging life.) Everyone is probably aware that one of the most hip ’seemingly child-movie’/art-bro stuff of the year is coming up. Where the Wild Things Are gathered massive anticipation and its indie-appeal has something to do with the soundtrack, I guess. The soundtrack is by Karen O and the Kids, in which the Kids have such names as Bradford Cox, Dean Fertita, Aaron Hemphill among others, so it’s a super-group. Wow. Without having seen the movie, I can say that the soundtrack is perfect for the world that the trailers projected. It’s surprising that it actually has good songs and it’s fun to listen to. Hard to achieve this while trying to sound like innocence, enchantment, dreamy, primordial, arty, etc. I’d say that they go back to some sorta roots, some country and folk but it has an experimental twist and it’s mixed with childish elements. The whole thing is very atmospheric and you can sense that you’re being pushed to immerse in a new mood. Karen O’s vocals are definetly highlights, she is just amazing…I mean this is quite different stuff than YYYs but she can even pretend to be a story-in-bed-mother an her voice delivers. This is not gonna be a traditional tale, let’s hope that Jonze’s movie is going to have the virtue of nice and, on the surface, simple story-telling and the alt, arty elements will blend in and just help with the magic.

This great collaboration delivers many awesome artists to many cities and that’s how Frankmusik is gonna arrive to Budapest. Supported by one of our favourite Hungarian djs, We Plants Are Happy Plants and of course by a Buffet Libre dj set, this is gonna be a pretty exciting evening the club called Merlin. So guys, if anyone is in the area, here’s a party again that’s worth checking out. (Don’t worry, we didn’t reduce ourselves to a party-blog, we’re gonna pump it up in October.)

Kunk’s epic Season Opening takes place in 2 days. We managed to catch Designer Drugs on their European Riot tour. They will bring the dj set that provides us with one of the coolest season openers ever and it will shake the foundations of a newly renovated and renamed club, Mappa. RSVP the event of Facebook, you’re all invited: Kunk and Datascent present Designer Drugs (USA).
Kunk readers must know Designer Drugs well, we’ve posted quite a lot of their remixes (previous coverage). What are Designer Drugs? For one, they are white hot. Playing in every hip club around the globe, remixing everyone from Maria Carey to Little Boots, Annie and Fischerspooner and putting out superbly produced tracks… Not surprising that the tastemaker blog and label, IHeartComix signed them. Combining elegant synth and pop sensitivity with the cruel and grand bass shocks, they are definetly emperors of dancefloors and the virtual space of the blogosphere can be proud that it helped the emergance of an act like this. It’s really a wonder that they will play in Hungary. If you’re around, you don’t want to miss it. Details and taster-tracks below.

Sorry, Kunkers have a lot on their minds, preparing for next week’s Season Opening with Designer Drugs. However, Linus Loves (about whom we will make some announcements later) sent over an awesome remix by Fred Falke. On the remixed side is LL’s protege, the blogosphere’s favourite, Burns. You know, we are suckers for both of them, so, in combination the fun is exploding. The result is a hypnotic future-funk-disco track that is gonna get many bodies moving on/to dancefloors. Now, more officially, after watching the video for the Teknique (video for First Move here), go over to Beatport and buy the EP. Believe me, you should, these might be ones of those late-summer clubbing anthems that are rarely done well but in this case, they are amazingly atmospheric. Here goes the enchantment:
