 This Convi Clamp accessory has a hex stud on one side and baby stud the other for mounting light fixtures or any other piece of grip equipment or accessory with a baby receiver. These babies are generally bought by the handful and considered a “must have” item in your grip bag.

The Baby 5/8″ Snap-In Pin mounted in a Convi Clamp with Adjustable Handle. The advantage of the hex pin is that it won’t rotate in the clamp’s receiver. Also there is a safety mechanism built into the Convi Clamp, if the set-screw ever comes loose, the pin can’t be separated from the clamp unless the safety button is pressed down first.

The New Kupo Vision Arm with Removable Hot Shoe (KG100711) is a precision crafted articulating arm is designed for holding field monitors or accessories. The two 1/4″-20 threads at either end are attached to ball joints that rotate 360 degrees, plus a cut-out in the sleeve surrounding the ball allows the thread to be bent 90 degrees. The central elbow rotates 360 degrees for infinite adjustability. In addition to the included hot shoe adapter, a 1/4″-20 barrel adapter allows you to connect the hot shoe to the 1/4″-20 thread at the end of the arm. 

Vision Arm (KG100711)

This lightweight, small arm can easily fit into your gear bag. It comes in handy not only for field monitors, but also for field recorders and microphones. To adjust the arm, simply loosed the lever on the central elbow joint and then the elbow as well as the two end ball joints loosen up simultaneously, position your filed monitor where you would like it, then tighten the lever and all three joints will tighten together. The handle ratchets, so if you find yourself in tight spaces and can’t turn the handle in a complete circle, you can pull the handle out to reposition it wherever it needs to be.

The Vision Arm can be threaded into any 1/4″-20 female accessory thread. Another great accessory for this arm is our tiny but mighty Pincer Clamp. The Pincer clamp has a 1/4″-20 female thread, is strong and lightweight and easy to mount around tubing such as the riser of a C-Stand to position your field monitor or recorder in close proximity to your camera at a comfortable viewing height.

Have you ever tried to use a grip arm as a mini boom by mounting a light fixture at the end of it, only to find gravity pulling it downwards because the set screw wasn’t strong to hold up its weight? We’ll now there’s a simple solution. 

Kupo just introduced an exciting innovation in grip arm design. At the end of our 40″ grip arm, you will find a baby hex pin with six milled flat surfaces. So now you can mount your light fixtures or accessories on the end of your grip arm like a mini boom and they won’t rotate due to the set-screw of that fixture or accessory, locking onto one of the sides of the hex pin.

David Lloyd – Certified Professional Photographer

 

PROFESSIONAL CAREER

David began his professional photography career in 1975 as an Electronics Engineer in New Product Design at the Vivitar Corp., where he designed Electronic Flash and Color Darkroom equipment. While at Vivitar, David was awarded the Crystal Eagle for outstanding achievement in New Product Design and holds a US Patent in Electronic Flash. 

 

EDUCATION

David studied Photography at Art Center, College of Design in Pasadena and West Coast School of Photography at the University of San Diego. David’s career in Electronics also included the design of high speed motion picture cameras at Photosonics and a long tenure in Aerospace design with Teledyne, Librascope, Litton and Lockheed Martin.

 

After a two year Military assignment in Okinawa, Japan, David worked as a Lighting Gaffer at NBC in Burbanc, CA where he began his fascination with the character of light and the photographic image. Inspired by his Uncle, Julian B. Ely, Staff Photographer of Stars and Stripes Newspaper in the Pacific Rim, during WWII, David’s interest and evolvement in photography has continually grown.

 

David resumed his career as a professional photographer in 1997 in the Central Coast of California, photographing Weddings, High School Seniors and Family Portraiture. David also taught Digital Photography and Digital Workflow at Colleges in California and most recently at Scottsdale Community College in Arizona. 

 

PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS

David is a long time member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA), Professional Photographers of California and a recent member of AZPPA, since 2008. David has received several Meriting Prints from WPPI and Gold Coast PPA.

 

Though the association and encouragement with members of AZPPA, David studied for and was awarded the title of Certified Professional Photographer.

Welcome to our first official post for our Personal Gear Guru Service! This is the first step in a long but exciting journey of gear and photo knowledge! Besides my years of retail experience selling this gear and of course using it as a professional photographer, back in my assisting days and up to this very day, I am fortunate enough to learn from some very skilled image makers, and frankly there isn’t a day that goes by that I probably don’t learn something new. Technology and gear are constantly changing, and even though I’ve been at this coming on three decades now, the sobering fact is that there is always more I don’t know than I actually do. Even though my friends call me “Quiz Show” because I generally have an answer for everything, if I ever come to a question that I can’t answer on my own, I mean WHEN that happens, I’ll seek out the answer for you and we’ll both learn at the same time! Why is there one long bolt on one of the junior roller legs?

Hey Giles,

Great question! The longer bolt in is used to hang the stand on a stand hanger that you will find on grip trucks, grip rental houses and grip carts. The leg goes in the open space between two hangers and the bolt rests across two of the hangers.

The bolt can also be used as a hook for the handle of a sandbag, especially when the legs are not fully opened to provide a narrow footprint. Due to the increased angle of the legs, a sandbag would slide down to the casters. In this case most of the sandbag would be resting on the ground making it less effective then if the full weight were being supported by the stand itself to give it stability.
