I Love Animals…Not Their Poop!

Just getting back in town and I think something has died in my garage. Certainly smells like it. This got me thinking about animals and their poop… Not to mention on my AM bike ride, I encountered it again. So, I have written an open-letter:

To the Dog-Walking Denizens of the Westside,

I have good news for you! Along my daily walks through my hood, I have…with my SHOES…managed to successfully clean-up about 40% of the presents your furry friends have left behind! I know you were losing sleep over how these lost treasures would be cared for, but don’t worry, I’ve got it under control! I’m not the only one tending to this matter either. There have been many times I found myself saying, “Whew…better you than me!”

There once was a man named Harvey Milk. Harvey decided it was necessary to address your inaction by law, (i.e. by issuing citations). Now, granted, his work focused on the San Francisco Bay Area, but my dog-walking friends in the Westside could learn much from Harvey’s efforts to increase the curb appeal of his noted city. I can think of a few options: You can scoop it, you can bag, you can digest it (not as gross as it sounds: a digester is actually a machine or home appliance that you implant in the ground that will liquefy the poop), you can turn it into a hood ornament for your Beemer. I don’t care! Just don’t leave it!

Don’t get me wrong. I can appreciate domesticated animals (even if I don’t have any) and agree that if cared for and trained properly, they can greatly increase the quality of our lives. Statistics have shown that children who have grown up with pets in their homes, grow to be more nurturing and caring adults. There is however, a huge difference between this and this. If at the end of the day, you’re too proud to clean up after your tiny friend, then maybe you’re wealthy enough to afford this.

Thank you for your time and consideration on this matter and in case my sarcasm didn’t soak in, I don’t appreciate the makeover you’ve indirectly given my sneakers or my bike tires!

Hello MySpace…Is Anybody Out There?!

Over the last six months or so, I’ve noticed a drastic decline in MySpace activity. Is it just me, or is this popularity drop for real? What does it take to go from fad to phenom to faded in the online social networking world? Has Tom lost his edge to the corporate clutter of MySpace as we know it today, dwindling down his total friend count? Sorry Tom, it’s not like you have time for 12 million friends anyway!

So from my perspective as a musician, yes, I think that perhaps not everyone, but many seem to have jumped ship from MySpace, or briefly turned a new web page. From Facebook, Twitter, LiveJournal, LinkedIn (for the professionals), Classmates.com and now Jango (to name a few), we seem to be bombarded by choices to make about which social networks we turn to and invest our leisure time in. For many years, MySpace provided a forum for independent musicians (and naked internet girls: Tila Tequila, Masuimi Max, etc) to present their talents to the masses. Now Facebook wants in on that, and they also want to charge a fee to all of their users! Does this mean death to Facebook and the second coming of MySpace?

I’m presenting these questions as an informal poll in an effort to answer my initial question: Is Anybody Out There? Please give me your feedback. I would love to hear from my fans on this.

What NOT to Say: Tell Her She Has Thunder Thighs and the Lightning is Sure to Follow

Fellas, some advice. Telling a female she has Thunder Thighs is NOT a compliment, even if you mean it to be. Ladies do ya feel me?
Funny how things get lost in translation. And when it comes to the language of “him” vs “her”, it can really get crazy. What we have here is a classic case of MISCOMMUNICATION.

So here’s the deal… I recently had a conversation with a guy friend of mine (let’s call him Mike). Well, Mike saw some unused footage from my Everything Around You (I’m Not Happy) music video. Afterwards, he commented on my “thunder thighs”. Needless to say, I DID NOT take his choice of words as a compliment (although I knew it wasn’t an insult). It was definitely one of those, “I’m Not Happy” moments.

I know lots of females who struggle with real (or imagined) body/weight issues. Some of us fight cellulite, fat deposits & flabby thighs. So hearing the phrase “thunder thighs” is most often not positive (especially in the mind of a woman).

Now, back to Mike…. what he really was trying to say is: Wow, your legs are strong/athletic/shapely. But what came out is “thunder thighs.”

So ladies, try not to slap the someone who says that to you. Instead, get supercharged and clarify what was really meant. Easiest way to do that – ASK. That way you will know whether to see it for what it is… A COMPLIMENT in disguise, or a suggestion that you need to hit the gym. And fellas, you may want to use a different choice of words. Or, as a friend of mine said… “even if she has what you think are thunder thighs, NEVER say it to her… unless you’re ready for the lightning!“

Street Cleaning in the Neighborhood…

Hey there! You know I always keep you posted on what’s happening in our block. If you’ve noticed that things are looking a little empty not all the links are working around here… YOU’RE RIGHT! The Kwanza Jones SUPERCHARGED Neighborhood is switching servers/hosts. Think of it as a virtual street cleaning. I’m gonna try to make it as smooth as possible.

Unfortunately, some of you are going to have to sign up again. I know, it’s a pain. But it shouldn’t take too long.

Our new host is MUCH better value for the $$$. It had to be done. As you know, 1 of my top 3 pet peeves is wasting $$$. It’s gonna be bumpy for a bit until the entire switch is completed. Wanna rant about it? Take it to the forum.

I was online checking out some music videos at Yahoo Music and saw the Kwanza Jones, Everything Around You (I’m Not Happy) video there. In fact, I saw it posted on the main page of their music video website and featured on the Yahoo Entertainment site.
NICE!!!

I want to thank one of my friends in the Kwanza Jones neighborhood for giving me a heads up. New member GenaLove sent me a message telling me she saw the video on Yahoo Music late last week. So I figured I better see it for myself. Thanks lady.
