Catch our Deejay Class Kids this Sunday

Each morning this week, the lovely old house at 220 South Fourth Avenue has been overtaken by a team of 9- to 12-year-olds with more energy than a supernova. Kids class instructors Jaime J. and Cathy Rivers are currently harnessing this collective energy in to a week's worth of training, and this Sunday afternoon from noon to 6pm, you'll get to enjoy the results.

Please tune in this Sunday for great music selected by the next generation.

KXCI and Armory Park Present PorchFest 2013 this Sunday, 7-9pm.

KXCI and the Armory Park Neighborhood present Porchfest 2013 this Sunday, June 30th from 7 to 9pm (KXCI kicks off at 6:30pm with maps/programs).

Front porches all over the Armory Park Historic District will come alive with live music. 19 musical acts- from solo acoustic singer songwriters to full bands- will perform on 12 historic porches- including KXCI. PorchFest is best enjoyed on foot or by bicycle.

More information including participating addresses and a band schedule is available on Facebook at PorchFest Armory Park.

KXCI features Jeremy Michael Cashman from 7to 8pm and The Modeens from 8 to 9pm. We will also hold a free drawing for concert tickets, including Chris Isaak's August 7th show at the Fox.

Registration is open for KXCI's Summer Youth Classes.

KXCI 2013 Youth Classes Information and Registration
KXCI offers a broadcast dj training program for youth ages 9-12 beginning the week of July 22nd. All students will get a chance to share their skills and music with our listeners with a brief show

Summer Spectacular Auction Raises More than $6000 for KXCI

Three Ways To Support Your Community Radio This Month

Generally when people think of supporting KXCI Community Radio, they think of memberships (and for good reason: thousands of you support us this way - thank you!).

But there are other great ways to support the station you love, including some you may not always think of. In this post, we present three things you can do this month to support our programming:

#1 Donate your used vehicle to the station. It's easy - simply CLICK HERE or call 1-877-KXCI-123. We'll take your old car, truck, RV, motorcycle, or boat. You get a tax deduction and a parking spot, we get an item to sell at auction.

#2 Donate an item or a gift certificate for services to our upcoming auction. If you are a business owner or operator, artist, author, musician or a million other things, you have something to offer our Summer Spectacular auction that opens for bids on June 3rd. Remembering George Jones

Country music superstar George Jones passed away Friday at the age of 81, but leaves us with a wealth of recordings to be enjoyed for years to come. Called "the greatest country singer of all time" by his friend Merle Haggard, Jones could move effortlessly from the honky tonk sound of Hank Williams to heartfelt ballads that rivaled any of the crooners of the day. Only Eddy Arnold had more Top Ten country singles, and George charted in six different decades.

Remembering Richie Havens

The music world lost one of its best on Monday with the passing of Richie Havens at the age of 72.

Remembered for his captivating performance at Woodstock (which many of us got just a small sense of in 2003 when Richie played the Tucson Folk Festival), Havens released more than 30 albums in his storied career. His soulful, gravel-throated voice may now be silent, but we'll always have hundreds of his songs to continue to share for generations to come. You'll be sure to hear many of them on many different KXCI programs in the days and weeks ahead.

KXCI Celebrates Earth Day with Music and Community Voices

April 22nd, 2013 marks the 43nd Anniversary of Earth Day. Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson responded to a burgeoning environmental movement and declared April 22nd, 1970 to be Earth Day in an attempt to focus attention on environmental issues through teach ins and community events.

In honor of Earth Day, all of our regular Monday programmers will be adding their special musical earthy touch to their shows from 5am to 6pm. Earth Day will be filled with great, relevant music interspersed with spoken word segments by people from the Tucson community.
