    I was talking to a coaching client recently about all the uncertainty in the world right now.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    Between political unrest, world events, the price of oil, and AI becoming such a dominant force—with real concerns around job loss and cyber security—I was reminded of a story from when I was 26 years old.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    At the time, I was living in Vernon, Texas, where I grew up. I was in the process of selling my business—a service station—along with my modest house, because I’d gotten what I call a “God whisper” to step into the unknown and move to Dallas.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    I didn’t have a job offer. I was just going, and I planned to start a detail shop to make ends meet.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    At that time there seemed to be so much uncertainty in the world.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    This was during the Cold War. Every day, it felt like the world was on edge with political tension between the U.S. and Russia, and even nuclear threats. There was a real sense that things could fall apart at any time.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    I remember talking to a mentor at the time and saying, “What’s the point? Why even try? It feels like the world could come to an end.” I truly believed it at the time. Ambition seemed pointless.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    He then asked me if I had ever heard what Martin Luther’s response was back in the 1500s to the question of what he would do if he knew he was going to die that day.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0; font-style: italic;">
    “I would plant a tree.”
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    For some reason, that resonated.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    So I went out and bought a peach tree and I planted it in the front yard of the house I was selling.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    It was symbolic. It was like a stake in the ground. It was my way of saying: regardless of what’s happening out there, and all the things I can’t control, I can control this. I can invest in the future. I can choose to believe there is a future.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    That same year, the Berlin Wall came down before our eyes, and shifts took place in the world that seemed almost impossible before.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    Little did I know, a few years later, that decision to sell everything and move to a new place would lead me into the seminar business, doing large events all over the country, and eventually partnering with Jim Rohn and many other strategic relationships over the past 30 years.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    Jim Rohn would say human beings are resilient. And when asked about the future, he said:
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0; font-style: italic;">
    “Six thousand years of recorded history reads like this: opportunity mixed with difficulty.”
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">
    So if you’re facing uncertainty right now, here’s a simple question to consider:
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0; font-weight:700;">
    What can you do today—symbolically or practically—that represents belief in your future?
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 1em 0;">
    Because planting the tree wasn’t about peaches. In the middle of uncertainty, it was about choosing faith and optimism.
  </p>

  <p style="margin: 0 0 1em 0;">

Henceforth, will I apply ALL my efforts to become the highest mountain of all and I will strain my potential until it cries for mercy.&#8221; — Og Mandino</p><p>Funny how things work sometimes&#8230; I was set to do an event in Atlanta in the early &#8217;90s with Jim Rohn and another famous speaker. Well, the other famous speaker had to cancel due to an unforeseen challenge. I went searching for a replacement that would be as well known, accepted, available, and yes, in my budget.</p><p>My search led me to the author of <i>The Greatest Salesman in the World</i>, <i>The Greatest Miracle in the World,</i> and <i>The Choice</i> (just to name a few), Og Mandino.</p><p>I had a lot of brushing up to do now that I was promoting the author of over 10 best-selling books. What I did not know was this former Publisher of <i>SUCCESS Magazine</i> and student of W. Clement Stone had overcome many, many personal challenges and obstacles before launching his own path to success in his late 30s.</p><p>Og by his own admission was a recovering alcoholic and he had, at one time, been close to taking his own life.</p><p>I  think that is one of the reasons Og&#8217;s message as a speaker and author was so compelling. He had been through hell and back and come out the better.</p><p>His Ten Scrolls in <i>The Greatest Salesman in the World</i> is a must-read (reply to this email SEND if you would like a PDF of the Ten Scrolls). </p><p>I  had the chance to work with Og multiple times after that first event in Atlanta. His story inspired me and seeing all the people who had experienced changed lives through his message encouraged me to share it with others. </p><p>Og unfortunately passed away five years after I first met him. It was a sad day for the world and for me. </p><p><strong>In his honor, here are a few more Og-isms:</strong></p><p>&#8220;Always seek out the seed of triumph in every adversity.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Do not listen to those who weep and complain, for their disease is contagious.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;I will love the light for it shows me the way, yet I will endure the darkness for it shows me the stars.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;I will not allow yesterday&#8217;s success to lull me into today&#8217;s complacency, for this is the great foundation of failure.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Take the attitude of a student, never be too big to ask questions, never know too much to learn something new.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;The person who knows one thing and does it better than anyone else, even if it only be the art of raising lentils, receives the crown he merits. If he raises all his energy to that end, he is a benefactor of mankind and its rewarded as such.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;The victory of success is half won when one gains the habit of setting goals and achieving them. Even the most tedious chore will become endurable as you parade through each day convinced that every task, no matter how menial or boring, brings you closer to fulfilling your dreams.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;Beginning today, treat everyone you meet as if they were going to be dead by midnight. Extend them all the care, kindness and understanding you can muster. I gathered almost a 1,000 quotes on over 100 topics and from there edited them down to 365 quotes on 60 topics.</p><p>That became the <i>Treasury of Quotes</i>, a hardbound book. <p><strong>1. Marketing is about connecting the dots!</strong></p>
<p>Marketing is not about being manipulative or trying to be clever. It’s simply finding the most efficient and effective way to connect your products and services with an audience.</p>

<p>Factors include your existing products and services, the marketplace, the competition, your unique goals, your existing resources, and your own special talents and secret sauce.</p>

<p>Every person and business is unique and to maximize your efforts, you must connect all the dots, and create your own individual path.
<p><strong>2. Marketing is about tactics and principles.</strong></p>
<p>Tactics include social media, emails, podcasts, direct mail, one-on-one convos, events, apps, and much more.</p>

<p>And tactics are always changing and evolving as technology changes.</p>
<p>I’m a tactics guy. I built a million plus list, sold millions of books, and filled up huge rooms before selling my companies using tactics.</p>
<p>But principles in marketing are even more important than tactics.</p>
<p>Principle-based marketing includes having a great product. Having great service. Being consistent. Caring about people and putting relationships first.</p>
<p>Often tactics-focused marketing churns through people and ends up treating the audience like a commodity.</p>
<p>I always say NEVER let a tactic (no matter how new and great it may seem or be) override principle-based marketing.</p>
<p>We will spend a lot of time on both the tactic and principle based strategies of marketing at Memory &#038; Marketing 2026.</p>
<p><strong>3. Marketing is about being strategic</strong>.</p>
<p>Everything works—putting business cards on windshields works—it just doesn’t work very well.</p>

<p>You have to find the most strategic way to knock down the most dominoes in your business.</p>
<p>At my core, I’m a strategist. When I coached Darren Hardy, Robin Sharma, Dr. Tom Burns, Todd Stotttlemyre, and many more, we always started there.</p>

<p>What is the one domino that can knock down all the other dominoes? Everything else is secondary. (See the end on how to work 1-1 with me to help you create your strategic plan for 2026 and beyond.)</p>
<p><strong>4. The Wheel</strong></p>
<p>The concept of the wheel came to me in 1993 when I launched Jim Rohn International. Jim had a handful of products and services (and no list) and I thought, how do I get people—once they experience one product—to go around the wheel to the other products (each spoke on the wheel represented a product or service).</p>

<p>And the BIGGER question was, how do I get more people ON the wheel? (customer acquisition)</p>
<p>There are FOUR key criteria to determine when you&#8217;re building your own strategic wheel. Most people are trying to do too many things vs the ONE BIG THING that can change everything.</p>
<p>At our Memory &#038; Marketing Event, I spend a lot of time walking you through the key strategies of how to design your OWN wheel (similar to what I have done for multiple 7- and 8-figure businesses).</p>
<p>This is HUGE!</p>
<p><strong>5. Social Proof, Testimonials, and Your Website</strong></p>
<p>My long-time friend Jeffrey Gitomer attended my Philly Inner Circle a few years ago and asked this profound question: &#8220;Where do you live?&#8221; I said Texas. He laughed and said, &#8220;So, are you going to start sharing your home address with the world? No. You live on your website and social platforms. 24/7!!&#8221;</p>

<p>Wow, he was right!</p>

<p>Jeffrey also talked about the importance of having testimonials and social proof!</p>

<p>Anyone can make promises and say great things about themselves, but proof through testimonials, pictures, and video are a 1000x more powerful.</p>

<p>Make sure your website and social presence reflects your unique social proof!</p>

<p><strong>6. Build an Audience</strong></p>
<p>Often, the bigger the audience the more influence in the marketplace. Now, an audience can be a community, a platform, social followers, podcast, an email list, and more.</p>

<p>I’ve met speakers and authors who have never built a list or audience. Same for doctors, realtors, coaches, real estate syndicators, etc.</p>
<p>And then I’ve met (and coached) speakers, authors, professionals, who understand the value and power of building a list they nurture and talk to.</p>
<p>And they almost always outgrow their competition by 2-10x.</p>
<p>You must be intentional in building your own audience and tribe. I will walk you through over a dozen ways to do it.</p>
<p><strong>7. Talk to your audience</strong></p>
<p>If you’re doing only one-on-one communication and you don’t have a way to talk to your audience as a group, you’re always hunting.</p>

<p>But when you organize a way to talk to your audience as a group, now you’re fishing.</p>
<p>Give them great content, give them great information, invite them to cool stuff, be a utility to your customers and prospects, let them know what’s going on.</p>
<p>Then on occasion, yes you can promote a product or service you have, especially when its timely.</p>
<p>And when you do, it’s similar to fishing. Put it out there and see who is ready to say yes.
<p>And what’s even better is when you create offers that have fish jumping in the boat!</p>

<p>Money follows attention! If you’re not talking to your audience, believe me, your competition is.</p>

<p><strong>Two final mantras to have as you think about marketing: </strong></p>
<ul><li>The best marketing comes from a transformed life or experience others have had working with you!</li>

<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">In a book I published last year <em>Lessons From Thought Leaders</em>, I shared four insights that can take you from ordinary to extraordinary success.</p>
<p style="margin: 0.8em 0 0.4em 0; color: #20248c;"><strong>1. Opportunity Precedes Personal Development</strong></p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">I believe that opportunity often precedes personal development. Sometimes we need to have something that gets us so excited that we decide to do all the things that will change our lives—that gets us up early, keeps us up late, motivates us to read the books, listen to the podcast, attend the seminars, have conversations, set goals, keep a journal, learn the skills and disciplines, etc.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">That’s what happened to me when I found the seminar business and first heard Jim Rohn in 1990. I was inspired to not only become better, but to go all in and give 100% in a new direction that forever changed my life.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 1em 0;">Do you have something that motivates you to be your best self?</p>
<p style="margin: 0.8em 0 0.4em 0; color: #20248c;"><strong>2. Everyone Starts at Zero</strong></p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">When starting anything new, you must remember this! Everyone starts at zero! Whoever your mentors are, realize that at one time, they were beginners. The key is to get started and to not compare. Run your race and you too will arrive one day.</p>
<p style="margin: 0.8em 0 0.4em 0; color: #20248c;"><strong>3. Learn by Doing</strong></p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">I’ve always learned by doing. The more we can laser-focus on the exact thing we need to learn and the more we can find the best sources to help us, the quicker we can grow.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">You can’t learn it all at once. You learn it one step at a time. I got into the seminar business and I had to learn to cold call, sell, and present. Later I got exclusive rights to book Jim Rohn for speaking and events, so I had to create a way to take him form 20 speaking dates to 100-plus times a year (and triple his fee). I had to then learn to create and market products and to negotiate and write contracts. I had to learn how to hire, train and manage a team. How to publish books, to build an online business, and eventually to sell a business.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 1em 0;">You can&#8217;t learn it all at once or all in advance, you learn it over time as it unfolds.</p>
<p style="margin: 0.8em 0 0.4em 0; color: #20248c;"><strong>4. What Do You Want to Be Known for in 3-5 Years?</strong></p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">A common exercise I often do (and take coaching clients and Inner Circle members through) is a very powerful centering question:</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">“Who do you want to be in three years and what do you want to be known and/or famous for?”</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">I truly believe everyone has unique gifts and the potential to be world-class in specific areas of their lives. But it requires clarity, focus, and commitment.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">When you are clear on what you should and should not do, it will impact everything, from your daily to-do list to the books and seminars you decide to invest in and the people and mentors you choose to get around.</p>

<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">As we move closer to 2026, I want to share two simple exercises that I&#8217;ve been doing for over 20 years this time of year.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">First, around the winter solstice each year (this year, that was this past Sunday), I review all my previous years goals and intentions. I have them grouped into two areas. The first are my long term intentions including health, family, spirtuality, wealth, relationships, career, learning, contribution, lifestyle, fun, etc. I usually have 10-12 long-term intentions for the year.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">The second group are my short term goals. These could include events I’m putting on, a book release, short-term health goals, family events like my daughter’s wedding, travels I have coming up, improving in pickleball, learning new songs on my guitar, special guests for my events and podcast, a new skill I want to learn the next year, people I’m praying for, etc. I usually have 20-30 of these.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">I then write a new updated list for both at the front of my new journal for the next year. Then, as the year goes on, I review the list multiple times throughout each week. Often, I amend as needed.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">When I hit any of these goals/intentions I circle them and then add them to the back of my journal in a section titled <strong>20 GREAT Things</strong>.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">That brings me to the second exercise. At the end of each year, I make a list of <strong>20 GREAT things</strong> that happened to me the past year.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">This list can include personal, family, health, financial, business/team related events and victories. They can be big or small. Some are mine, Some are about my kids or my business. There are no rules. Just make a list of victories for the year. Especially ones that were intentions that you set and then they happened.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">This journal exercise helps me be more aware and <strong>GRATEFUL</strong> of the past years&#8217; victories (of course, many of these are subjective). It also helps me be more aware of what areas I may have focused on more than others.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">What&#8217;s really cool is, if you make this a yearly ritual, at the end of 10 years, you will have 200 great things on your list. It&#8217;s a powerful way to capture and remember your milestones, victories, and celebrations.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">Now, what adds a whole additional layer to this is when you involve your family or business team.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">I actually started this at Jim Rohn International. I challenged the entire team to create their own 20 Great Things list. We would all gather and read them aloud as a group. It was such a powerful and emotional experience.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">In addition to gaining a deeper awareness of our own wins from the past year, we also got to learn about and celebrate some really great moments shared by our fellow coworkers. And we got to relive the many shared victories we had together as a team/company (creating team goals with celebrations and rewards was big at JRI).</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">More recently we did this same exercise at my Kyle Wilson Inner Circle Mastermind. Once they had their lists, members broke into smaller groups and shared. I loved watching members celebrate each other together!</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 0.8em 0;">I encourage you individually and with your family or business to give it a try. Take 10-20 minutes to see what comes up for you and also look for aha&#8217;s and insights that may come up as well.</p>
<p style="margin: 0 0 1em 0;">Make it an annual tradition of awareness, gratitude, and celebration!</p>
