I was the lead site designer/developer (at my day job) for the portal and I am very pleased with the outcome. The group of individuals responsible for providing this resource are doing great things for educators and students alike. As I posted yesterday, October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. In conjunction with The Addams Family Musical, StageNotes. October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. There are so many avenues that you can travel down to address the issue of cyber security. One of my favorite resources, Common Sense Media, has developed a wonderful resource on how to Stand up to Cyberbullying. As always, Common Sense has resources for parents and educators to help them work through this very sensitive topic with kids.

Registration is now open for the 4th annual Doodle 4 Google contest. The contest is open to all students in grades K-12. This year, three different groups can register students for the contest:

• Parents/guardians
• U.S. K-12 public, private, home schools
• After School Programs – Boys & Girls Clubs of America and Girl Scouts of the USA

There is no longer a limit on how many doodles are submitted for judging. Registration on March 2,2011 and all submissions must be postmarked by March 16, 2011.

Why do you attend PETE&C? We are looking for short, creative videos to entice others to go to PETE&C.

Instructions/Rules:

1. Produce a video 3 minutes or less in length telling us what draws you to PETE&C and upload it to YouTube.
2. Go to the PETE&C YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/peteandctube1 and cilck “Subscribe”
3. While still on the PETE&C YouTube channel page, click “Send Message” and write a message to PETEandCTube1. Make the subject “2011 Video Contest”. At the bottom of the message attach your video.

Alternately, you can just send the URL of your video to peteandctube@gmail.com.

Videos will be judged by the PETE&C Board of Managers. The video that delivers the most authentic and compelling display of why you go to PETE&C will be the recipient of the registration. The deadline for submitting your “Why I Go To PETE&C” video is 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 8, 2011. Note: videos may be used by PETE&C in a video playlist. If you plan to remove your video, please do not do so until after the conference.

The second announcement extends FREE calling within Gmail through 2011. If you haven’t tried making a phone call within Gmail you should make a few test calls. Also, if you aren’t using Google Voice, a number will be created for your use within Gmail. Google had promised free calling through 2010 but extended the service for another year.
