and British Newspapers from Gale until June 5, 2009. This trial
does not require a password to access articles.

This collection of fully searchable historical American and British newspapers includes digital facsimile images of both full pages and clipped articles for hundreds of British and U.S. newspapers.
For each issue, the newspaper is captured from cover-to-cover, providing access to every article, advertisement and illustration.

MeLCat Update

Kalamazoo College students, faculty, and staff now can place multiple MeLCat requests without having to re-enter their home library, user name, and password each time. You will see a message instructing you to logoff when done. It is important to remember to do this when using MeLCat at a public computer. The system will automatically end your session if it's been inactive for 7 minutes.

Rare Book Room Program Tues. May 5th

The A.M. Todd Rare Book Room presents "Napoleon's Egypt,"
an exhibit of an original edition of the monumental 19th century text "Description de l'Egypte."

In connection with this exhibition, the A.M. Todd Rare Book Room
is hosting a special event on May 5th at 4:00pm in Upjohn Library Commons, Room 308.

Drs. David Barclay, History, and Kathleen Smith, French, will speak briefly about the exhibit. Dr. Barclay will present the history of Bonaparte's Egyptian expedition; Dr. Smith will talk about the phenomenon of "orientalism," the West's cultural construction of
the non-West, which originated in part with this expedition.
The presentations will be followed by a visit to the exhibit
with Mr. Paul Smithson, its curator.

Exhibit dates: March 30th - April 10th, April 27th - May 15th, and
May 26th - June 5th, 2009
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Library Book Loan Periods for Senior SIPs

Seniors working on their SIP may request extended loan periods for books checked out from the K College Library. Extended Loan periods are not granted for overdue books; students must request extended SIP loan periods before materials are due.

Loan periods may be extended for materials owned by K College Library only. Materials borrowed from MeLCat or Interlibrary Loan cannot be granted extended loan periods.

New York Times Subscriptions for K College

Personal subscriptions to the New York Times are available to Kalamazoo College students, faculty, and staff at a discount through Benson Distribution. Subscriptions for Spring Quarter start on Monday March 30th and go through Friday June 5th, with no delivery on Memorial Day, Monday May 25th. Subscriptions are for Monday through Friday, and do not include Saturday or Sunday.
