Today I was running errands, picking up items for a meditation retreat we're having this weekend. As I ran around grabbing food for a meal, my stomach began to grumble. When my blood sugar drops, whoa—watch out. My mood can switch from cheery to grumpy in the blink of an eye. I grabbed some food for dinner as well, and drove home. My stomach grumbled, and I reacted with an expletive as a driver pulled out in front of me out of turn.

Somehow in all my life, I have lived without eating a fresh fig. I grew up eating fig newtons, but they aren't the same. How did I not have these until just now? How did I not have these until just now? rom the sweet flavor when the flesh is that perfect ripeness, to the crunchy consistency, fresh figs are so yummy. I would like to make something with fresh figs but I have no idea what to concoct. As a child, I was a good kid. A rule follower. I leaned towards schedule and direction more than spontaneity. I always colored inside the lines and with the appropriate colors. As I shared last week, the hubby and I were out for a jaunt around the Kenmore to explore, taste, and enjoy the area. Our second stop for the day of Kenmore discoveries was La Verdad, which, as their website states, was awarded “Best Mexican Food in the U.S.” from Bon Appetit magazine. Though I am used to simple fare in Chicago from Taco Velos and El Presidente, La Verdad brought some upscale spins on the food without taking the prices too high.
