Since orange and blue are Complementary Colors, they work well together or as the name suggests they compliment each other.  Complementary Colors are any two colors which are directly opposite each other.  Orange and Blue are complementary colors, so they produce a really striking effect. It depends on the shade of orange and blue. As you can see, a vibrant orange, such as Calypso Coral and a bright blue, like Dapper Denim, work really well together.

Try a few of these. I’m working on a larger version to use in a frame as a wall-hanging. I’ll post it as soon as I finish it.

This card was made using a quilt and shape dies I have. You can use any of your geometric shaped dies to create beautiful Paper Quilt Blocks. Mix up the designer Series Paper patterns as you would fabric. In quilt making you should try to go with a light, medium and dark colors/patterns that don’t compete, but compliment each other.

In the above card the light color is the Flirty Flamingo Design, the medium color is the blue and white and the dark color is the Dapper Denim border.  Die cut and punch out different shapes and play around with different colors and patterns. You’ll be surprised at how many variations you’ll achieve.

THE RACE

Mint julep originates in the southern USA and still counts this area as its heartland. This is especially true of Kentucky where the annual Kentucky Derby horse race sees around 120,000 juleps served each year. Premium versions of the drink are served in gold-plated cups with silver straws at a cost of $1000, but you don’t need to spend quite as much as that to enjoy the day. The ingredients are simple: bourbon, mint leaf, sugar and water. However, no two bartenders seem to make the drink in the same way, which is all the more reason to sample a few before this special day is over!

MINT JULEP

 

The day is celebrated in the state of  Puebla with parades, speeches, and reenactments of the 1862 battle. In the mid-20th-century U.S., the celebration of Cinco de Mayo became among Mexican immigrants a way of encouraging pride in their Mexican heritage.

Cinco de Mayo is not to be confused with Mexico’s Independence Day, which falls on September 16. The latter holiday was established in 1810, some 50 years before the Battle of Puebla occurred.

PERFECT MARGARITA

It’s generally agreed that the components of a classic margarita are tequila, Cointreau is a brand of triple sec (an orange-flavoured liqueur) produced in France and fresh lime juice. But how much of each? The secret is proportions; balance accounts for the difference between a good drink and a bad one.

For one drink

1 1/2 oz. tequila (100% agave a must)
1 1/2 oz.  Cointreau
1 to 1 1/4 oz. of lime juice
Salt for the rim of the glass

Shake all the ingredients with cracked ice in a cocktail shaker until the exterior frosts. Strain into a glass over rocks, into a cocktail glass. A slice of lime as a garnish, while not necessary, adds a nice touch

Tempting Turquoise was cut at 4″ x 6″

Designer Series Paper was cut at 3-3/4″ x 5-3/4″

Another layer of Whisper White was cut at 3-1/2″ x 5-1/2″

FOR THE GIFT BOX:

A piece of Tempting Turquoise was cut at 2-1/2″ x 2=1/2″

Designer series Paper at 2-1/4″ x 2-1/4″

Whisper White at 2″ x 2″

With the Pop-Up Thinlits cut one of the bows out of Tempting Turquoise

Also cut out two Tempting Turquoise balloons with Calypso Coral backs

CARD INSIDE:

From  Whisper White cut a 6-1/2″ x 9-1/2″  piece  and two 2″ x 5″ pieces

From Designer Series Paper cut two 2-1/4″ x 5-1/4″ pieces

From Tempting Turquoise cut two 2-1/2″ x 5-1/2″ pieces

POP-UP FRAMELITS DIES:

Take the 6-1/2″ x 9-1/2″ piece of Whisper White and with the POP-UP Die run it through the BIG Shot

Our of scraps of Calypso Coral, Tempting Turquoise and Whisper White, cut out various balloons. Cut enough to layer over the center POP-UP part of card as well as the sides of the card.

Layer and adhere the balloons to your liking. The most important part of this is to have fun!

Now you might think that decorated eggs are only for Easter, when in fact they can be used all Spring. Eggs represent rebirth, hence Spring. And, when we think of Spring, we think of flowers. So, this egg is perfect to leave out all Spring!

The first thing you need to do is go to your local craft or fabric store and pick up styrofoam Eggs and Sequin Straight Pins. You can use regular straight pins, but Sequin Straight Pins are shorter and therefore they don’t interfere with each other when pushed into the styrofoam egg. The size of the eggs I purchased are 1-7/8″ x 2-1/2″. They come six in a package. And, the sequin pins I used have pearl heads.

Here’s what I did:

Begin this project by punching two different sized flowers in various Spring colors.

I punched small and large flowers from scraps of card stock I had. Some isn’t Stampin’ Up!, but I used those colors , because I love the neon colors. Each egg, with double flowers, took between 60~80 punch flowers.

With my Paper Piercer I pierced a small hole in the middle of each flower. You may be able to omit this part if the pins you’re using are strong enough to go through the card stock alone. But I found the pins just bent the flowers and didn’t pierced a hole in them. 

Once the flowers were pierced, I stuck a sequin pin through the hole of a small and then a large flower, dabbed the pin in a little Tombow Glue, to hold it in the Styrofoam, and pushed it into the egg. You can place a Basic Rhinestone or Pearl in each flower if you use plan sequin pins.

When the whole egg was covered I cut about an 8″ piece of  of Ribbon, folded it in half,  dabbed some glue on the ends and with my Paper Piercer I poked it into the top of the egg.

Here’s another FLORAL EGG made four years ago. Have fun making these. You can use Red. White and Blue covered Styrofoam balls for July 4th or Basic Black and Pumpkin Pie for Halloween. This makes a great class project as well.

If you line up the large Hexagon Box framelit to the edge of an 8-1/2″ x 11″ piece of Elegant Eggplant and carefully with a pair of scissors, cut around the die before you run if through the BIG Shot you’ll get the two that you need.

Cut out the box detailed top and six of the side panels from Wisteria Wonder.
