Capital Campaign Thoughts: The Journey of Prayer

Luke 11:9-10 - So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.

Most of us are good at asking. We learn it at a young age. “Mom, can I have a snack? Dad, can I have a puppy? Santa, can I have a bike?” We know how to ask God for things. “God, can I have a job? God can I have health? God can I have your will done in my life?” Unfortunately, after the asking, we think we are finished. Asking is critical, but it is just the first step. To continue on the journey of prayer requires many steps. After we ask, we seek.

Seeking God’s will is much more than simply asking; seeking takes time, attention, listening, looking, and searching. That journey of prayer will lead us far past asking, deep into new paths of seeking God’s will for our lives. Along those paths we will discover doorways, places where decisions must be make. When we arrive at those doors, we must knock, look inside, and find the answer God has for our lives. And 9 times our of 10, what lies beyond the door is not like anything you expected.

You see, simply asking, “God, what do you want me to give toward this capital campaign?” requires little of us. It’s the seeking and knocking that changes us. It’s not the plan; but the process that enlightens us to God’s will, not for our involvement in this campaign, but for our lives. The journey of prayer requires many steps, but it’s the journey that changes us. Remember, God came up with prayer for our benefit. It’s the journey of prayer that lead us to doors of understanding and enlightenment.

Capital Campaign Update

It’s hard to believe it’s only one week until we launch our capital campaign into full gear, Next week is “Awareness Sunday.” It is vital that each member be hear next Sunday (Jan. 11) at 10:00 A.M. for a very important presentation. During this presentation, you will receive all the materials that will explain our building project and capital campaign in detail. That evening, we will set aside a time to answer any questions during our 6:00 p.m. service.

On Jan. 18th, we will begin our Lifestyle Stewardship Classes. These classes will meet for four weeks. Ages 18-30 will meet in the Library, ages 30-55 in Room 4; and ages 55 and up will be in the auditorium.

On Jan. 30th – 31st, we will have our 24 hour prayer marathon. Each of you will be asked to come to the building to pray for a one hour block during this 24 hour period. We won’t just be praying about the capital campaign either. We will be giving prayer request cards out next week and we will be praying over all of these cards as well.

On Feb 15th, will we celebrate what God has done. More information will be in your packet concerning this day, but you want to make sure you are in town for this special day. This is the day we will all turn in our pledges toward the capital campaign. We will then celebrate with a meal together and a time of laughter. Christian comedian Taylor Mason will be with us. Free tickets for this concert will be available starting next week.

And again, I want to remind you WHY we are doing what we are doing. The outline for this capital campaign can be found in I Chr. 29.

•	Vs. 1 - David made the assembly aware of the need. (Awareness Sunday)
•	Vs. 6-9- The Leadership gave first. (Leadership Campaign)
•	Vs. 10-13 – David Prayed (24hr Prayer Marathon)
•	Vs. 14-19 – The Assembly Gave (3 Year Commitment on Feb 15)
•	Vs. 20 – They praised God and celebrated together (Celebration Sunday)

Let us not forget that our goal in this is not simply to raise money, but to raise faith. May God bless this very important time for our church family.
