Sorry Paul, but the last thing I need is one more site registration, so I'm doing this on Google Sidewiki instead.

If Amazon really wanted to make a splash, they should offer a longer window for refunds. Something like the original 24 hours that the Android Marketplace used to offer. I may well use it anyway, but this is an opportunity to fix something that Google never should have broken in the first place.

Class action lawsuits are a waste of time

Apple deserves a spanking for this, but a class action lawsuit is a waste of time. The only people who benefit from them are lawyers, who collect millions in fees, while the members of the class being represented usually receive nothing more than token compensation.

If you really want to punish Apple, go buy an Android phone.

The declining LA Times

It's small wonder that the LA Times has turned its political blog into a venue for anti-Obama screeds. It's just another milestone in its long, sad decline into second-rate journalism. As it continues to emasculate itself, and puts its readers clearly in second place, making them settle for deadlines too early to cover late-breaking news because it's hiring out the presses for the rental income, the Times is starting to resemble its earlier 1940s and 1950s incarnation as reactionary fish wrapper. Otis Chandler is surely spinning in his grave, likely at higher RPMs than the muscle cars he loved so much.

New app phones

This is really a little test I'm running at the New York Times' expense (sorry, Mr. Sulzberger). I'm leaving a Sidewiki comment at David Pogue's article on the Microsoft Kin phones and the HTC Incredible, and by crossposting it to my Buzz gateway on Blogger, I'm curious to see what shows up in Buzz.

This isn't totally off-topic, though; I really am interested in the Incredible. The world of Android phones is getting very, very good indeed.

This is a test of using Sidewiki as an alternative commenting system for a blog post. By embedding a Sidewiki article in the sidebar, I avoid the need to embed it in each post--or at least that's my theory. We'll see how well it works.

This is the latest incarnation of my blog, where I do the majority of my online long-form writing. This site serves as both my personal online presence and as a feeder to my Google Buzz stream.

I think I've tried most, if not all, of the free blog providers over the years, starting with Vox, moving on to WordPress, and then Tumblr and Posterous before landing here on Blogger. As you might suspect, I'm always looking for ways to tweak my online presence and to make it a better experience for everyone--including me.

I've enjoyed having an outlet for my writing, and although I spend a lot of time on Twitter and Google Buzz, I'll always maintain my own little corner of the web. Comments are enabled on this blog, and I welcome feedback either through the Blogger commenting system, as comments on Google Buzz, or via Google Sidewik

Best food in Ventura County

Familia Diaz is the real deal. Founded in 1936 by the grandparents of today's owners, it's always a pleasure to dine here. The food is consistently great, the service is attentive, and when Dan Diaz isn't around personally taking care of things, his sister Sandy is.

I married into a family of longtime Santa Paulans, and getting to know La Familia Diaz has been a real treat. My wife and her mother love the tostada compuesta, which combines chile colorado and chile verde in a mouthwatering combination at a price so low you'll wonder how they make a profit. They have a Sunday brunch that's worth the drive from Ventura or Santa Clarita, and do a special buffet every Mother's Day, with Dan grilling up special items on an outdoor grill, as well as on other occasions throughout the year.

You won't find better quality and service than Familia Diaz anywhere in the county, and probably the state as well. I highly recommend it.
