Today I was given a brochure for an amazing new maternity retreat in Chelsea. Having had two pretty difficult labours, I'm very conscious of how the stress of birth can adversely affect you in the weeks and months following delivery. I wish I had been fortunate to re cooperate at Mermaid Maternity Retreat, a non-medical haven which not only offer post-natal support in the form of breast feeding advice, first aid training, and general tlc, but also a whole host of incredible antenatal options, from Pilates to hypnotherapy classes.

The rooms are incredible, sumptuous relaxing and ideal for recovering after labour or a c-section, and when you add in the full-board aspect (delicious, nutritious food. They also offer a take away food service for children at home or husbands!), the baby zone (a baby creche in case you need a few hours of sleep) and the workshops (sleep training is a must; it seems like the ideal place for any new mum.

Skinny Weeks and other stories

I've already written about how much I like Gwyneth Paltrow's new cookery book, It's All Good. I've cooked lots of the recipes and can't really find fault with any of them (for my review, click here), however, there are not a huge number of evening meals (and Mr G will only go without meat for so long). So, I decided to try out Gizzi Erskine's book, Skinny Weeks and Weekend Feasts. As a fellow member of Leith's Cookery School alumni, I had faith in her and her recipes!

It's a very different approach to GP, not so focussed on the healthy side, more on the fat and calories, which is fine by me (quinoa and Vegenaise, though delicious, can get tedious!). There are lots more meaty dishes, and lots with an exotic twist (Korean, Vietnamese, Middle Eastern etc), which is right up my street.

I've tried a handful of her recipes, and am almost as in love with Gizzi as I am Gwyneth (her tattoo's are crazy!). The recipes are nutritious, filling and delectable! So far, my favourites have been A Berry Good start (a yoghurty breakfast, which is light and fresh), Thai Chicken Satay Rice Bowl (super quick), Griddle Baby Chicken with Fattoush (sublime, my new favourite dish) and Roast Bananas with Peanut Butter (amazing when put on the BBQ!).

This book is a sensible and gorgeously delicious collection of recipes for anyone trying to lose weight healthily, while still having the odd treat! I am a convert, and Mr. G is jumping for joy that kale crisps are off the menu this week!

Softly Scented

We've just completed our new wardrobe in our house, having spent months planning shelves, hanging rails and carpet colours. So, before I start filling the cupboards with all of my clutter, I want to make it all smell divine, and keep moths at bay. I'm lusting after the Jo Malone Scent Surround Hangers, which are infused with one of my new favourite scents, English Pear and Freesia, a light, floral fragrance that screams springtime. However, at £40 a pair, I fear that they may remain a dream!

Slightly more practical are the White Company's Cedar Hearts. Perfect for deterring hungry moths, yet a little more luxurious than the plastic wrapped moth balls I have been using until now. They can be refreshed regularly with a spritz of cedar spray, so there is no excuse for holey cashmere!

Finally, L'Occitane, a perennial favourite, have just opened a branch a stone's throw from my home, over the river in Putney. And, their Lavender Perfumed Sachet's are a gorgeous way to gently infuse your clothes with lavender. The rustic, fabric bags that they come in look infinitely chic hanging from the rails or in a draw.

HD Ready?

Yesterday I tried out a beauty treatment called HD Brows. I have always had thin, straggly brows, that I've never really liked. Since the meteoric rise of Cara Delevigne, and her stunningly beautiful brows (not to mention the rest of her), I've been researching how I can get that strong look. Everything I read suggested that HD Brows was the right answer. It's a 7 step process, involving tinting, threading, waxing and plucking, to get your brows groomed and looking much better defined.

Sadly this is not me......

The treatment itself takes about 40 minutes, and is pretty simple, nothing scary or too painful. The final step of the process involves your eyebrows being penciled in, to balance them and help define arches etc. To be really honest, this was possibly a step too far for me, as I felt it looked a little too strong and heavy, but once I had taken the pencil off, I was thrilled with the results. My brows looked natural, but a little thicker and much better defined and shaped.

It's not a cheap treatment, costing around £35 each time, and requiring monthly appointments to maintain the look, but I can see how easily I could become a convert, especially if I end up looking a little bit like Cara.....a girl can dream!

A little gasp escaped my lips this morning, as I saw some of the press images of the new Chanel summer collection. 'L'Ete Papillon De Chanel' captures all things butterfly and beautiful into a collection of stunning makeup. Some of it looks quite bright, but the balance of coral, azure and turquoise would look incredible with a tan. I am counting down the days until it is launched in the UK (12th May).

It's All So Good!

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I had just bought Gwyneth Paltrow's new book, It's All Good, and promise to review it. I've spent the last few weeks trying out as many recipes as I could (there's only so much kale and quinoa Mr. G is going to take), and am so thrilled with it, that I want to shout from the roof tops.

Now, before I go into detail, I am aware that not everyone loves GP. Her books have had mixed reviews in the press, and her well publicised eating habits are openly criticised. I adore carbs as much as the next person, so a macrobiotic/vegan lifestyle was never going to work for me. But, I do want her figure, and her glow (and several elements of her life), so thought I'd try to cut back on the bad stuff (refined sugar, wheat, dairy), and things that don't agree with me (I had a severe milk allergy until I was a teenager), and see the effects. It's All Good is a brilliant resource for anyone trying this sort of diet or lifestyle change. The recipes are plentiful, simple and absolutely delicious. Really, they are to die for.

I've been starting my day with Green Juice (p212), a surprisingly yummy concoction of apple, ginger and kale, which has been really setting me up for the day, and keeping me full. Snacks of a few nuts and fruit are easy and perfect for a busy mum. But it's the dinner recipes that have impressed me the most. The Mexican Chopped Salad with Green Goddess Dressing (p57) is sublime. I cooked it for my mum, and she instantly ordered the book for herself. The dressing goes with anything and is amazing, you wouldn't think it was super healthy (I use pickled jalapenos intsead of fresh ones). The turkey meatballs are juicy and filling (p105), and the Two Pan Chicken with Harissa, Preserved Lemons and Green Olives (p112) is divine on the bbq (last night's dinner!). Quite Savoury Quinoa (p33) is delicious, even Mr. G manages to eat it, and the Saute Corn with Chimichurri is so easy, but super satisfying And, the children's section is imaginative and actually making Fifi eat healthy, unusual food (i.e. not fish fingers).

I love the book, I can't bear to put it back on the shelf, and am finding it a great companion to my Abel and Cole box. I'm also feeling fantastic, energised, happier and healthier. It's definitely worth a try if you are feeling tired and sluggish.

Dry Skin Make Up

Dry skin can be an absolute nightmare, and this Narnia-esque winter is doing nothing for my already slightly parched skin. I find that the drier my skin is, the harder it is to get an even base. Fundation tends to sit on my skin more and never looks fresh or dewy. However, I have found a couple of fab products recently that really work for my skin, so might be worth a look.

Bobbi Brown Tinted Moisturising Balm

This is akin to a tinted moisturiser, but gives a little more coverage, and is absolutely sublime. It comes in a pretty massive pot, and smells divine, almost citrusy. It blends in so easily and feels lovely on the skin. The finish is smooth, glowy and healthy looking skin. It is very light, and gives a sheer veil of radiance to the driest of skin. I honestly adore this product, and can't stop using it.

Benefit Fake Up Concealer

Initially I was a bit dubious about this product, as it looks like it would be very greasy and give little coverage, due to the 'hydrating ring' band around the core of concealer. A little slick under my eyes, and I realised how wrong I was. The outer ring helps the product to gently glide over your skin, imparting concealer on my enormous bags, whilst moisturising Once patted in, it stayed in place as long as any other product I have tried, but didn't crease. A fab alternative to the light reflective pens for drier skins.

Beauty Blender

Not exclusively for dry skin, but I have found it is particularly good on parched areas, the Beauty Blender is an egg shaped make up sponge that gives a brilliant, smooth finish. It's a bit strange, if you are not used to using sponges, but you dampen it down to use and then stipple it all over your face to get really even, flawless foundation. I can't lie, it takes a while, and is certainly not something I have time to use every day, but when you have the time to really work on your base, this makes it look stunning. I particularly like it for softening under eye concealer and smoothing the edges of cream blusher so get that flawless finish. Look on YouTube if you want some amazing tutorials!

A Taste of the Good Life

Since Fifi turned 2, she's started to become a really fussy eater. She was never the easiest girl to feed, but she suddenly got a lot worse around 2 years, to the point where she was demanding fish fingers and peas at every meal. If I tried to give her anything else, she would resolutely refuse to try it. I wasn't prepared to let meal times become a battle, but I started to notice that her lack of eating correlated with temper tantrums, refusing to sleep and getting very tired on a daily basis. So, I've started trying to really focus on cooking nutritious, natural food for her, and coaxing her into eating a more varied diet, with less sugar and processed food. I'm no advocate of the Gwyneth Paltrow approach, I firmly believe that children need wheat, dairy and treats, but I have noticed a huge difference in Fifi's mood and appetite since I have dumped the junk.

Today's lunch, homemade organic salmon fish fingers with parsnip chips and green beans (yes, with a bit of ketchup, but we can't be perfect!)

These are some of the ways I have been trying to embrace a healthier lifestyle, and some fun ways to get kids involved in food.

Although I am not convinced Fifi is ever going to wolf down a Kale crisp, I have ordered the book for recipes like Sweet Potato and Five Spice muffins and nutty candy bars. I'll keep you posted on how it works out for us!

Scott Dunn Good

A couple of weeks ago, we nervously headed off on a skiing holiday, booked through family friendly travel company Scott Dunn. I'd heard good things about them, and having had so many disasters, decided to put my faith into the hands of a company who had experience of making family holidays a success. Included in our trip, were flights, transfers up to Courchevel, a private chalet, a nanny for 8 hours a day, a chef and a chalet host. It all sounded a bit too good to be true, but I was still nervous. We've tried holiday nannies before, and never been that impressed, and catered chalets can be a little hit and miss sometimes.

A week before we were due to fly out, I had a call from a resort manager and chef, who wanted to talk through what we needed to be organised for our arrival, from ski passes to nappies (brand, size, how many) and what sort of cots or beds we would want in each room. The chef wanted to discuss dietary requirements and preferences of Mr G. and I, and our kids. I finished the phone call slightly euphoric, I had never encountered such attentive service on a holiday, before I'd even packed.

We arrived after a long flight (it was only an hour, but with two over tired children, anything more than 5 minutes feels long to me), and were quickly ushered onto a smart coach, with my choice of car seats for the children already strapped in, a huge hamper of food for all of us and was offered a glass of wine, which I readily accepted. Although a long transfer, the children slept, Mr. G and I ate and drank, and actually started to relax. We arrived at our beautiful chalet, and were greeted by the lovely Ev (the chef) and Ellie (the host), who were so welcoming and friendly (freshly baked cake helped).

The week progressed in the same tone, amazing service, food and, snow. Our nanny, Denise, was so wonderful with the children. Arthur got a bit poorly, and she was so caring and kind, and had limitless enthusiam to keep Fifi entertained all week. Ev's cooking was incredible, from chocolate fondants to fillet of beef, our food was mind blowing. And Ellie was the sweetest chalet host, helping with everything from playing with Fifi, to topping up my wine glass (and mopping up Arthur's sick with a smile on her face, a miracle in my book!). Gabi, a resort manager made sure our lunches up the mountain were nothings short of sublime, and that we wanted for nothing.

We arrived home from our trip, happy, relaxed and sadly missing the wonderful people who made our holiday so special. Scott Dunn holiday's are definitely not the cheapest option, but with young children, sometimes you need more than a basic holiday to be able to relax and have fun. We had a wonderful trip, and have already requested their summer brochure!

Waxing Lyrical

I do love a scented candle, there is barely a surface in my house without one on it. I've blogged about my favourites a lot (most recently Diptyque's Rose Duet, it's stunning), but I've got a new candle crush, in the form of Jonathan Ward candles.

A London based company, focussing on luxurious home fragrance products, his candles and fragrance diffusers are to die for. I tried his Orange Opium range in the winter, and really liked it, a spicy, citrus, perfect for Christmas, but his Verte and White ranges are just divine, perfect for bringing a little bit of spring into your home. Dance in the Summer Rain is possibly the happiest inducing fragrance ever, simple, clean and perfectly reminiscent of a damp summer morning.

French Pharmacy Buys Part 2

I wrote about my favourite French pharmacy purchases a few months ago, but having just spent a week in the Alps, I've found a few new ones, which are just fantastic. Most of them are next to impossible to get in the UK, so stock up if you are France bound in the future!

Filorga

This French cosmetics range has had some great reviews on a few blogs I read (Ruth Crilly raves about it on A Model Recommends), but it's very hard to get hold of. However, after a long day on the ski slopes, I popped into the world's most expensive pharmacy in Courchevel for a bit of retail therapy, and the sales assistants clearly saw the neon sign above my head ("she'll buy anything"). Launching into a whole analysis of my skin (dry/tired/dehydrated......an ego-boost let me tell you!), they brought over a selection of Filorga products and said I simply had to buy the lot. Well, I didn't quite buy the lot, but a select few bits, that I was assured would make me look beautiful, and am so impressed.

I've been trying 4 products, which I probably shouldn't be using together, but as I clearly need a beauty boost, thought I'd quadruple dose. The shining star in the range is the Meso-C radiance treatments, which have made my skin feel so much softer and healthier within a week. I also love the Sleep and Peel, which has sloughed away dead skin cells and helped to smooth my complexion (I use this at night), and the Sleep Recover is a great , overnight moisture and radiance boost (this is the one the sales assistants wouldn't let me leave without, apparently they could tell I had small children from the bags under my eyes.....).

Some of the Filorga range is available from Marks and Spencer's great beauty hall (and online), and almost all French pharmacies.

Phyto Gloss Treatment

I have always had a soft spot for the Phyto range of haircare products I love the way they smell and they always deliver great results. Being a highlighted blonde, I find that my hair can get yellow undertones pretty easily, and although I use a purple tinged shampoo, it can be quite drying, so I was thrilled to find Phyto's Platinum gloss treatment up the mountain. It totally neutralises yellow tones, and made my hair soft and shiny. You leave it on for 5 or 10 minutes after shampooing and conditioning, and just rinse it off, like a hair treatment. They have other colours, for dark blonde, brown and red hair.

Flector Patches

Not a beauty product but if you suffer from a sore back, which I do on a daily basis, these anti-inflammatory patches are the stuff of your dreams. You just stick them directly to the sore area, and they quickly reduce pain and swelling, as effectively as a prescription anti-inflammatory, but without any side effects, and I found that they benefits lasted much longer.

Bioderma ABCDerm

From the same stable as my most favourite make-up remover, Bioderma have an incredible range of baby products, which, unlike a lot of others, are targeted to specific issues that babies can have with their skin. From extreme dryness, to irritations around their mouths (both of mine had this from over zealous wiping by me, and dribbling when teething). I adore the ABDDerm Ato+, which is ideal for super dry skin, the Peri-Oral cream for Arthur's mouth and the suncream, which sinks in like a dream. Sadly, I have not been able to find this baby range anywhere in the UK, but let me know if you have any luck!

The Perfect Mother's Day

This coming Sunday is Mother's Day, (take note Mr. G) and although I would love to receive flowers and breakfast in bed, rather than facing disappointment head on, we're jetting off on holiday at 6am, so no lazy morning or blooming bouquets for me. However, seeing as I am a mum, I have a wonderful mum, and lots of you are mums, I thought a post on perfect presents for mum's might be apt. Everyone should show their mum how special they are every now and then! So, I asked all of my lovely mummy friends and my own gorgeous mum for their dream Mother's day present. Travelling with Kids

Rather bravely, we have decided to get on an aeroplane next week with two children. Regular readers of my blog will know that we have had some awful travel experiences, from projectile vomiting on takeoff, flying home from the Caribbean early, to unending hysteria (and that was just me). However, sometimes you just need a holiday, and with Mr. G working away most weeks, we thought a week of snowy fun was exactly what we needed. So, I've been thinking of ways to make the travelling easier, and asking friends and relatives what they recommend, and have come up with these travel tips.

1. Do not assume you can get children's first passports in a day or two. I nearly had a nervous breakdown this week, when I was told the only possible way to get my son a passport in time was to travel up to Liverpool. Luckily, I managed to get it sorted in London, but don't be dopey like me, leave three weeks for a first passport, as even with the fast track service, getting appointments can take weeks.

2. If you are travelling with a baby, morning flights are definitely easier. By the afternoon or evening, thy are already pretty tired and grumpy, and might not sleep well. We have found that you can't assume a baby will sleep on a plane, so we'd rather lose a daytime nap.

3. Calpol, calpol, calpol. Preemptive dosing, especially in teething children, might sound a bit controversial, but if their little tubes or gums are tender to start with, I think it's kinder to ease any possible pain. I've travelled with a sore wisdom tooth, and can assure you, it was hellish.

4. Entertainment on flights or car journey's is critical. iPad's are worth their weight in gold, beg, borrow or steal (not literally), and upload as many episodes of Peppa/Thomas or some favourite films and apps to keep little ones quiet. I've also created a lucky dip bag for our flight, with lots of new books and magazines (and maybe a Cinderella doll, but don't tell anyone!) to keep Fifi entertained. You can buy sticker books and activity packs for a few pounds on Amazon.

5. This one is going to be painful to write, but in my experience drinking alcohol on a flight with children makes it so much harder. It's your call, but 8 hours of screaming seem to hurt more after a glass of wine, and certainly make pacing up and down the aisle on a bumpy plane interesting.

6. On takeoff, babies can really struggle to pop their ears, so giving them a dummy or bottle of water to suck on is great. However, if you're going with the bottle option, make sure you only start just before lift off. I tanked my daughter up with so much water before we had even started moving, that her tummy was so full, the pressure of taking off made the water come straight back out. Heaven.

7. If your kids scream the entire way, know that you will get death stares and lots of sighs from people around you, but just ignore it. I am always amazed by how some people can be so mean when your baby is crying. I know it's annoying, I have it ringing in my ears and will probably be hearing it for the next 2 weeks, but it's not as if I poked my child to make them cry.

8. After an 8 hour flight from hell, be mindful that your husband will still want to take photos.....

Bathtime Blissfulness

There's no denying that life can be pretty stressful and exhausting. I find that stress catches me unawares, and can feel overwhelming and downright miserable. With a ridiculously hectic life, I try and make some time for myself a couple of times a week, when I really try and switch off and relax. Sometimes it's with exercise, but more often it's with a long soak in the bath. These are my current favourite products to induce a zen-like state of mind after a long day.

Aveda Stress Fix Soaking Salts

A handful of these mineral rich, lavender infused bath salts in a warm bath will relieve stress and tension, and help you to have the most divine night's sleep. They contain a blend of organic oils, clinically proven to reduce feelings of stress. I absolutely adore the scent, and find they really help me to focus and calm, when I need it most.

Aromatherapy Associates Inner Strength Bath and Shower Oil

As a die hard Aromatherapy Associates fan, I almost wept when I heard they were releasing a new bath oil. Inner Strength was created by the brand founder, Geraldine Howard whilst fighting cancer. She combined frankincense (to help her to concentrate and breathe), rosemary and cardamon (to improve circulation), clary sage (to induce euphoria), geranium (to rebalance hormones) and vetiver and sandalwood (for anxiety) into a stunning bath oil, packaged in the happiest shade of fuchsia you can imagine. Not only does this oil really work at soothing the soul and making you feel like you can take on another day, it is also so uplifting in its message and support of the Defence Against Cancer Foundation.

Diptyque Rose Duet Candle

There is nothing quite like the flickering light of a candle to bring peace to a stressed mind. This limited edition rose version is incredible, if you are a fan of all things rosy. It packs a heady, floral rose, with the depth of Baies, which work together to infuse a room with the most incredible scent. I adore it, Fifi adores the colour, and Mr. G is working away, so can't complain that the house 'smells of girl'.

Take a Bow

With a head full of curls, taming Fifi's hair has always proved something of challenge. It gets very knotty and frizzy, and can take on the look of 'street urchin chic' unless treated with care. We have been working through a selection of bows, elastics, hair bands and brushes, trying to find our favourites.

When it comes to bows, I adore Verity Jones London, for the gorgeous colours and patterns. They are made with gorgeous grosgrain ribbon, and don't lose their shape, even under hats. we have just started trying out her bow elastics, which are perfect for bunches (although Fifi's bunches are tiny, all bow and no hair!). For brighter shades, Candy Bows have a huge selection and a very reasonable price point, which is so important as at least half of Fifi's have ended up littering the streets of Fulham over the years.

The biggest issue I have with bows, is keeping them neat and tidy. Until recently, I kept them in a large jar, which was fab, until Fifi decided to help herself and dropped it.....So, I have now reverted to a ribbon pinboard, that I clip the bows onto. It looks adorable hanging up in her room, and means she can easily grab one if she feels so inclined!

Finally, when it comes to products and brushes, nothing beats a Tangle Teezer for brushing very knotty hair. And, I've been using a spritz of Bumble and Bumble's Prep spray each morning to help get the brush through and tame the frizz that she acquires every night.

Last Weekend....

This weekend has been one of exciting new adventures, and some brilliant buys (on my part). First up, we took Fifi pony riding in Richmond Park. It proved such a success that we had to return on Sunday for another go. Fifi has never been super-confident when it comes to anything physical (there is nothing more guaranteed to produce tears, than the appearance of her scooter when we are in the park), but she really took to riding on her little Shetland pony, and hasn't stopped chatting about it since. Although it is terribly expensive (over £1 per minute people), I am so thrilled to have found something that pushes Fifi's boundaries a little. It's definitely worth trying new things, it's so rewarding when they pay off. We start ballet classes next week....fingers crossed it's such a hit!

I've found a few beauty gems in the last few days. First up is Dermablend cream stick foundation. Designed to conceal acne and even tattoo's, this is a super strength concealer (or foundation) that doesn't look heavy or cakey. Perfect for breakouts or even under eye bags, it sets to a dewy finish and stays put really well.

Next up is Lancome's Eclat Miracle, a serum and highlighter in one, that I have been wearing alone, with a smudge of Dermablend, to give a really fresh, glowy finish. It's not greasy or oily, but boosts radiance and manages to make skin look amazing! I have paired it with Aerin's multi colour for lip and cheek in Sweetpea for a fresh, springtime look.

It's no secret that I love a beauty treatment or two, but getting to a salon or spa is a logistical nightmare with two children and a husband working out of town. I therefore adore having people come to my home to pamper and beautify me, and have developed a slight obsession with the gorgeous girls at Perfect 10. Shaking off the Winter Blues

We've just booked a summer holiday, and have several summery wedding's and Mr.G's 30th all creeping nearer and nearer. I have therefore started to try and get suitably toned, glowing and glamourous, as I am always guilty of leaving it to the last minute, and ending up looking less glam more gran.

First up is my exercise routine. I workout once or twice a week with a brilliant trainer, but I am trying to up the ante, and have started interval training in my local park. That sounds very complicated, and it really isn't. It involves running the length of the park (less than half km) as fast as I possibly can, and then returning to my starting point walking or jogging to catch my breath. I've been assured that it is a great way to build fitness and drop the lbs quickly. I've been wearing the most gorgeous leggings to keep my legs warm from the cold winds, by Hey Jo, a super luxe brand, who make chic, brightly coloured leggings for working out in. I love the gold zips on my Cassini blueberry pair!

Diet wise, I'm sticking to the Jane Plan, which is keeping me on track diet wise, and is super easy, which is perfect for my life at the moment (two children, new house, husband working out of town...it's all go). I'm consistently dropping weight, slowly but surely, every week, and starting to feel that I'm getting my pre-baby body back (although it wasn't that great to start with. Fingers crossed for a Miranda Kerr style miracle).

To get my skin in tip top condition, so it glows all summer, I've turned to Sarah Chapman's Skinesis range. Her targeted skin boosters and overnight facial guarantee waking up with great skin, that just gets better and better. Her Instant Miracle mask certainly got my skin glowing (but stupidly ignoring the instructions not to pour down the sink has led to a very grumpy Mr. G, with a very slow draining bathroom sink, be warned!).

Finally, to get my hair shiny and glossy, I've been using coconut oil, massaged in to my scalp before shampooing, which really works. Coconut oil is one of those star products, that can be used for all sorts of dry skin conditions (it has cleared Arthur's patches of dryness up a treat), and just happens to smell like pina colada, divine!

From Father to Son

We've just moved house and I've had no Internet access for nearly a week, so I apologise for the infrequent blog posting. However, following the lovely response to my last post on 10 things I want my son to know, Mr G got creative, and compiled a list of his own advice for his son. So, while I struggle with uploading pictures on a 3G connection, I thought I'd share his list.

1. Crying is ok for a man. Whinging is not.

2. The harder you try to get the girls, the less they will want you.

3. The more you say, the dumber you seem in a work environment. Only now, with others working for me, do I realise this. How foolish I must have seemed!

4. The only family member you ever get to choose is your wife... So pick wisely! You will know she is the one when you can go for 30 days without once, even for a split second, wishing you were somewhere other the by her side

5. Stress is a killer avoid it or learn to manage it. It kills relationships, it kills your ability to think, it kills your lust for life and it kills your sperm

6. Admit it when you don't know... Nobody is omniscient

7. Buy a good bed and a good pair of shoes... If you aren't in one, you are in the other

8. It's ok to want to be like your parents, but sift their best qualities and discard their worst before emulating them.

9. Time is the greatest healer. When it looks like something terrible has happened, wait... It won't be so bad in the morning

10. Never, ever have emotionally charged conversations when you are tired or when you have had a drink (even one). The chances of it turning into an argument are 100x more thanks you have the same conversation in the morning.

10 Things I Want my Son to Know

A few months ago, I wrote a blog post about 10 things I want my daughter to know. I spent a long time writing it, and hope that she takes some of it on board as she grows up. Well, this week I decided to write a blog post to my gorgeous little boy, with some lessons for him.

It’s ok to cry sometimes, it doesn’t mean you are weak, just human (and you had lots of practice as a baby)

Never be scared to express yourself. Love letters are a legacy, if you ever need help ask your Dad, he’s a pro.

Anyone can throw a punch, it’s not very cool

I’ve told your sister, and I’m going to tell you, think very carefully before you have a tattoo or piercing. Very carefully, they don’t always look so good when you get older (look at my tummy for proof!)

Pick you career carefully, there’s no rush. Find something you love, not something you think other people want you to do.

Love your sister, protect her. She will be your best friend if you let her.

If you can’t accept a girl with no make up on (or in pjyamas/tracksuit bottoms etc), you don’t deserve her in a wedding dress.

Never stop learning. Read, travel and open your mind. The world is a wonderful place, I wish I had seen more, read more, tried more. Spread your wings.

You are braver than you think. Remember that when you feel scared.

I gave you your first kiss, your first cuddle and I loved you first. Never forget that I will love you, no matter what.

Chanel Spring 2013 and other stories

In the face of freezing cold weather, and lots of stresses at home (we are moving house, it's been pretty nightmarish), I have found solace in make up, and lots of it. So, in order to feel a little less guilty, I thought I'd share some of my best buys of 2013 thus far...

Chanel Spring Collection 2013 (Printemps Pricieux de Chanel)

This collection is to die for. It's everything that I love about make up; soft glowy skin, subtle and defined eyes, and fresh pink lips and nails, all packaged up in some yummy Chanel packaging. The highlighter ((Poudre Signee de Chanel) is the stuff of dreams, a warm luminious peachy pink , that adds a divine finish to your skin. The eyeshadow quartet in Raffinement is perfect for daytime, with soft pinky browns and a stunning aubergine shade (much more wearable than you might think), but can be built up for evening and suped up with a slick of the Stylo Yeux waterproof eyeliner in Santal. And do not even get me started on the beautiful nail polishes, Fantasque is stunningly pretty and Envoutante is suitably dark and dramatic for my toes.

Benefit Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow! Foundation

I adore the YSL Touche Eclat foundation for it's dewy finish and ability to make me look fresh and awake after the roughest of nights, but this foundation by Benefit is a pretty good stand in. It's very light and blends in beautifully to leave skin that looks even and clear, but not obviously layered in foundation. It's touted as being a brightening foundation, and I quite agree. It adds a freshness and glow to skin which I adore.

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Excess Mascara

A brilliant new find, this mascara adds volume, length and drama to eyelashes, and stays put all day, without flaking or smudging. It's a dream to apply, and separates your lashes out as it goes on, so is ideal for that doll eyed look. Or, if you like thicker lashes, a second coat gives really long, dark lashes. Perfect!

Nisim FAST shampoo

Yes, I read into the hype, and bought some of this, supposed 'miracle' shampoo, that promises long, luscious locks in weeks. Mr. G (who has a degree in biochemistry) finds it hilarious, but I am already convinced my hair has grown a ridiculous amount in the three weeks I have been using it. Maybe it's a placebo, maybe not, but I'm giving it a go!! I'll let you know if I get any actual results to speak of....

Beatrix Potter and Gap collaboration

The most amazing collaboration launches last week, Peter Rabbit clearly got a little bit bored to stealing Mr. McGregor's lettuce and has joined forced with Gap, to come up with the most adorable range of baby clothing. Suffice to say, Arthur will be rocking the naughty bunny look for months to come.

Baby Soft Skin

With the weather so cold, make sure you keep your little one's skin soft and protected. I have fallen in love with Weleda's calendula range, which is keeping Arthur's skin baby soft at the moment (he gets dry patches on his legs, and this is the best lotion I have found to keep them at bay).

And, I'm in good company, apparently Gwyneth Paltow, Elle Macpherson and Liv Tyler are all fans of the range. The face cream is to die for according to Alexa Chung, who uses it (no, she's clearly not a baby, but why should little ones get to keep all the good stuff for themselves?), and I have been slathering my lips and my kid's faces in the weather protection cream before playing in the snow this week.
