We took our cue from the limit on SMS, which is 160, but we wanted to leave room for the author of the message, so we standardized on 140. Additionally, we wanted all Twitter messages to appear in their entirety no matter the device — we wanted to be device agnostic.

According to the Times’s Economix blog, “Among Twitter users, the median number of lifetime tweets per user is one” and “the top 10 percent of prolific Twitter users accounted for over 90 percent of tweets.” Do these numbers concern you? This report is not necessarily accurate or credible so I cannot comment on it specifically. I will however say that Twitter is in it’s infancy and there is much work to be done from a product perspective. We think there is much to be done to make Twitter better.

Such circumstances is not result of couple of days, in fact, is result of numerous chain mistakes started several weeks before. Below are some of the actions I took to stop financial problem to be deeper.

Be prepared to change lifestyle: This is the first thing you will have to do. You might feel being picky or you might have to fight with your mind for not doing things which you used to do. That is because you are habituated to a particular life style and now going to adopt new routine.

Track daily spent outs: This is the blueprint of your daily plan. Start noting down your entire day expenses in a diary or in excel sheet or anywhere you feel better. You can either use Microsoft money or any similar software. Accounting should include everything from checks you sign to trivial expenses. Check out it every night. With just a glance over you will be able to figure out the ‘leak hole(s)’ in financial system of your home.

Sort out expenses: Now that you have clear idea of the expenses you need to figure out which expenses are must, necessary and useless. Must expenses are something you can not play with. They are like loan payments, credit card payments, dentist bills, electricity bills, mobile bills etc. Although you can not compromise on these spent outs, you can definitely reduce the chargeable amount by e.g saving electricity.

Necessary Expenses: These are expenses which are necessary but you can still survive without it. Like cold drinks or alcoholic drinks in lunch, fruits, fast food while on the run, beauty products (Not sure for women but men can definitely stop) use etc needs to give a thought to reduce if can not be completely stopped. Good thing is necessary expenses can be continued once you feel being stable or out of the bad situation.

Stop money flow for useless expenses: These expenses must be cut off with immediate action. This category includes expenses which are not included in must and necessary expenses.

Save $5 a day: Saving $5 (at least) to $20 a day will bring liquidity. $5 a day will give you $75 in fifteen days and $150 at month end (You can do lot of things with it I sure). This can be very useful to cop up emergencies (I didn’t have money for my tooth cavity treatment and thats what promoted me to plan out this).

To be more financially strong…

Earn Extra Cash without leaving day job: Your best bet would be internet to generate extra bucks as it is the only place where you can work at the comfort of your home. This could be anything like paid opportunities, buying & selling on ebay and blogging.

What I noticed was such plan got me three ways– cutting off expenses, saving $5 and extra cash– to see my money adding up and reach to some respectfull amount every moth. Once you find yourself in good condition, you can stop plan or can continue to make investment.

Today we gonna learn about CSS position. CSS position is the most important part as it help us to decide to place an element at the desired place.

There are three types of properties we can use to decide the position of the elements in CSS: Static, Relative, Absolute and Fixed. There are much confusion about these positioning properties. So, before we go to example, you need to understand parent element and child element. Child element is the element which is placed within an element, and that element is parent element.

Now lets start understanding these trio in as fewer lines & examples as possible.

Static: This displays elements in standard flow. What is the standard flow? Vertical placement is the standard flow. It is the default position applied to the element unless defined. Positioning properties like top, left, right and bottom won’t have any effect.

Example: Static position property

Explanation: In above example there are three elements, wrap, first-div and second-div. No position has been defined and thats why Wrap is static by default. First-div and second-div are also static. Note that left and top are 100px but it has no effects. Both elements are in vertical manner (which is a standard flow). How to place elements in horizontal manner? You can use float property with left value to place elements horizontally.

Relative: This is the most common position property being used by designers. When you declare relative it means relative to its own position (keep this in mind to understand absolute and fixed).

Explanation: In this example, first-div has shifted by 10px from top and 15px from left. Second-div has shifted 15px from top and 5px from left. An element has boundary to move within when it is relative. We can not move an elements out of that boundary. What if we force an element to cross the so called boundary? Try it. Put 100px in top for first-div. What you will see is first-div has moved 100px from top but next div, i.e second-div, will be starting from the point where first-div is supposed to end. Boundary for child element= width of parent element. Relatively positioned element limits the scope of element with absolute position.

Absolute: Using this property is like ‘Place this element on this point only’. An element is relative to its parent element. We can move a child element using absolute property. Read last line of the explanation paragraph of relative position. It means an element with absolute position can move around only within parent element if parent element is relative.

Explanation: You can see two elements wrap and third-div. Wrap is relatively positioned and third-div is absolutely positioned. In result third-div can be seen at bottom of the wrap element and moved by 15px from left. What if parent element is static? then absolutely positioned element is relative to the web page i.e it can move around the page if parent element is static.

Fixed: This property helps to place an element any where on web page. Fixed position element is relative to web page. Web page is the boundary for it to move around. Not only that but fixed optioned element will stay on the specified position regardless of scroll up and down.

What Is robots.txt file?

robots-txt file is use to specify the policy about how you want your site to be crawled by various search engine bots. The file can be used to prevent search bot from crawling a particular document or folder. It must be in text document i.e. document ended with .txt extension.

Structure

robots txt file mainly contains two variables:

User-agent: Name of search bot the rule has been specified for.

Allow: The directive specifies directory or document you what you want to be crawled.

Disallow: This directive specifies directory or document you do not want to be crawled. To be more precise and in webmaster word it implies excluding url starting with word mentioned in ‘Disallow’. Either full path (url) or partial path (part of url) can be mentioned.

First Example

# robot.txt file
User-agent: *
Disallow: /

Understanding Used Values

>> Asterisk mark ‘*’ implies ‘for all and any web robot’.
>> Forward slash mark ‘/’ means entire website.
>> ‘#’ is comment mark. Anything written after ‘#’ won’t have any effect in crawling policy.

Result

No web bot will crawl the pages, directories of a website.

If ‘disallow’ is left blank then all the web bots will crawl entire site ( Including image folder, cgi-bin folder and any thing present on server).

Second Example

User-agent: *
Disallow: /folder-name/

Result

No web bot will ever index mentioned folder and pages inside the folder.

Third Example
How to explude a file from being indexed?

User-agent: *
Disallow: /file-name.html

Result

No bot will crawl mentioned file. Applicable to any type of file i.e. .pdf, .php, .js etc.

1. ‘Disallow: /help‘ disallows any url contains ‘help’ i.e. disallows http://www.WebsiteName.com/help.html and http://www.WebsiteName.com/help/index.html.
2. ‘Disallow: /help/‘ will disallow http://www.WebsiteName.com/help/index.html but will allow http://www.WebsiteName.com/help.html

Fourth Example
How to set different rules for different search bot?

let say you don’t want web bot called ‘Badbot’ to index a particular folder and also want major search engines like Yahoobot, Msnbot, Googlebot and Aolbot to crawl.

Disallow: /folder-name/

User-agent: Slurp # Name of Yahoo bot is Slurp
Disallow:

User-agent: Msnbot
Disallow:

User-agent: Googlebot

Result

This will disallow ‘Badbot’ to crawl ‘folder-name’ and allow yahoo, Msn, Google and Aol to crawl everything.

How to disallow subdomains containing a perticular word?

Result
This will disallow any subdomains that contains word ‘my’. For example, myhome.websiteName.com, myoffice.websiteName.com, myphotos.websiteName.com etc.

To exclude url that end with ‘?’ from indexing.

Disallow: /*?

Seventh Example
To disallow url that ends with file extention e.g. .doc, .pdf, .gif, .xls or any extentions.

Disallow: /*.pdf$

Result
This will disallows url ends with .pdf

Webpage designed with HTML table format generally don’t face both  multi-browser computability and cross-browser compatibility problem.

When you stumble upon a site with some broken design you might question why webmaster of the respective site hasn’t solved the broken design yet or webmaster is not bothered about it and just ignored it. No, its not like that. The reason of the broken design is the browser you are using to explore that site.

For CSS designer this is biggest headache. A design which looks fine in Internet explorer may not be looking correct in firefox or in its own previous versions. But, you can’t blame a browser for not showing design properly. As long as my interaction with css is concerned I would say that a perfect design with correct implementation of css standards will look almost same in almost all browsers.

Like every programming language css, too, has its own syntax. Syntax means a set of standard to use the language for correct output.

css syntax is made up of selectors. There are two types of selectors - id and class. According to css standard, defined id has to be used once per document where as class can be used multiple times in a document. Design will look as expected even if you use selector id more than once but errors will be reported when you validate the design through css validator.

Explanation: In example one css block is made up of three basic parts, namely selector, property and value. id is being started with # sign and class is being initiated with . In above code….

• Selector: #css-id-example [Defines whether it is id or class and name of selector]. Html tags like p, table, td, div, h1, h2, h3, ul-li are called selectors. If declaration is div#css-id-example then p is selector.
• Property: font-family, color, background,width [Name of desired property to bb applied to elements]
• Value: Verdana, red, black 410 [Value of property]

In a css design block property and value are placed inside curly brackets ({ and }) where as selector is placed outside the bracket. Property is terminated by ‘:’ colon sign and value is terminated by ‘;’ semi colon sign.
HTML elements with CSS selectors

There are numbers of html elements e.g. p stands for paragraph, h1 for heading, ul li for listing. Different design style can be declared for each of this elements.

p before # sign suggest browser to apply followed properties and values to the text used within paragraph tags only i.e. <p></p>.

Grouping Of Selectors

CSS allows the grouping of design blocks.

I am taking today’s post as a css introduction so that in next post, coming on Saturday, i can directly jump on to css designing. CSS is hot knowledge being asked in web design industry. It is one of the easiest language I have ever came across. Learning css (Basic to advanced) is just matter of days. Creating this design in html table format will take a month or may be two where as the same will get done in a week or three with the help of css.

CSS is abbreviation of Cascading Style Sheet. It is a format to declared how html elements will be displayed. Defined attributes are stored in css file with ‘.css’ extension.

Inserting CSS into webpage

CSS can be applied to a web page in three ways listed below….

Methods to Declare CSS Design File

• Calling from out side
• Declared within <head> tag of the web page itself
• Defined in the elements.

Calling External css file

You will need to specify url of the css file location if you wish to call external css file to your webpage. Take a look at the example

Explanation: main.css is the name of css file. Code you see above is usual html page code. Bold line is the code to call css file in web page. Web browser, when found this code, will search for css file in the specified location and will apply to html elements if found.

Important: When you type just name of the css design file, browser will search in the same folder the web page is located in. In case css design file is in other folder you will need to write ../main.css instead of just main.css.

Declared Within Web Page

Explanation: html elements are declared in between two tag, <style type=”text/css”> and </style>. <style type=”text/css”> indicates beginning of css design code. </style> is, yes you guessed it, closing tag denotes browser that it is end of css design code.

Defined in Elements Tag

html elements like h1, h2, p, table, width, height (there are many elements. these are mentioned just to give you idea) can be displayed by declaring in the tag.
