G is for Gaze at my new bathroom (#AtoZChallenge)

Well, I’m a total A to Z Challenge drop out. True to form, I’m late. I procrastinated. But, here I am, trying to finish this challenge. I guess it’s not much of a challenge anymore, is it? Anyway, I wrote a couple of posts regarding our hallway bathroom remodel. This post showed the 1964 “before” version, while this post showed a few shots of the “during.” I’m so so so pleased to show you the “after”, completed version. Did I mention I was pleased?

That “Keep Calm and Flush” sign? Yep! Painted it myself. My first-ever attempt at creating art. And you know how one home project always seems to lead to another? Well, we replaced the bathroom door because you can’t have a crappy old door on a new bathroom. And you can’t have one new door when all the other doors in the hallway are the old ones. So, new doors in the hallway. And the new trim in the bathroom is so much nicer than what we had in the hallway. So, as long as the doors were being replaced, the new trim might as well be put in.

We’re so pleased and happy to have an updated bathroom. Yay to our contractor! But, you know, the master bath could really use some work…

In my effort to get back on the A to Z Challenge horse, I plug on. I was going through a couple of my Pinterest boards, deleting duplicate pins (because I forget I pinned something and pin it again. Does that happen to anyone else?). I had the pleasure of coming across this picture again. I literally LOL whenever I see it. (Sidenote: It really bugs me when people use the word literally incorrectly. Did you really literally die laughing at something super funny? Of course not.) I really do laugh out loud when I see this picture. The little girl trying to take off the goggles? OMG. Hilarious! Enjoy everyone!

It seems that often, as our lives have become so busy, we don’t stop to enjoy the finer things (or the not-as-finer things). We need to stop and smell the roses more. A few things I enjoy, in no particular order, are…

Good seats at sporting events
Hugs from my kids
Good wine
Good coffee
Sitting in the family room, fire going, a hot cup of tea, a good book
My kids still calling me ‘mommy’, not ‘mom’
Manicures & pedicures
My black Lab, Bailey, chasing her tail (cracks me up every time!)
A generous husband who loves me
Going to the gym (enjoy might be a strong word)
Going to northern California to visit family
Happy memories of a wonderful childhood

C is for Comb-Over (#AtoZChallenge)

Ah, the combover. That age-old hairstyle some balding men employ to fool us (or themselves) into thinking they have more hair than they do, full heads of hair. Really?? I mean, REALLY? Do you you actually think you’re fooling anyone? Do you think we look at you and think, “Wow! Look at that guy and his full head of hair!” Well, we don’t. Now, I don’t pretend to understand the emotional toll losing one’s hair has. I know it is really difficult for some men to accept. But I assure you, the combover is no solution. I contend it has the opposite effect you’re looking for. And it has to be difficult to maintain. I mean, hairspray won’t help you when a big wind comes up and blows those strands all over the place.

To me, there is only one solution. Embrace the hair loss. Shave your hair close. Shave your head entirely. So many men rock the look. I give you these men…they are fabulous and sexy.

Rudy Giulianni? He had a combover, but wisely changed his ways.

Bret Michaels? No one is completely sure what’s going on under that bandanna. I suspect receding hair. Now, he’s not using the combover, but the balding/long hair combo. Really no better than the combover. C’mon. Let see who you really are. We’ll still love you.

The Donald? Well, who knows what he’s trying to do, exactly. There seems to be a combo thing going on. Whatever it is, it’s horrible.

So, what say you? What’s your opinion of the combover or styles like it that attempt to cover up hair loss? Who do you know that rocks the bald look?

A couple of weeks ago we started to remodel our hallway bathroom. This is the one the kids use and the one guests use when here for a party or gathering of some kind. Child-friendly and grown-up, all at the same time. There’s no place to go but up, from our lovely mid-1960s ~~old~~ vintage look. Here are some “before” pictures for your viewing pleasure.

That is wall-mounted toilet, y’all! Now you know that your bathroom isn’t so bad…

The Answer Game (TAG) for the #AtoZChallenge

Have you heard of the A to Z Challenge? It’s a challenge for all bloggers out there to post everyday (except Sundays) in the month of April. The trick is that the posts have to go thematically from A to Z. Yes, that’s the challenge! Sounds simple, right? So, why am I doing this challenge? I want to get into the habit of posting more often, so this seemed like a great way to do that. And posting more often helps to get more readers, right? What blogger doesn’t want that? And I heard about this challenge from Coffee Lovin’ Mom and she knows the cool things (and cool people) going on in the blogosphere AND she loves coffee, so why wouldn’t I listen to what she has to say?

I came across The Answer Game on the Pearson Report, one of the co-hosts of the A to Z Challenge and thought I’d play along.
