The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarships for Masters and Ph.D degrees

The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) a publicly funded, self-governing oragnisation of the institutions of higher learning in Germany, promotes international academic exchange as well as educational co-operation with developing countries through a variety of funding and scholarship programmes. DAAD cooperates with ANSTI by offering a number of in-region scholarships for Masters and Ph.D degrees. The deadline for application is the 31st May 2011.

Eligibility
Participants in the programme must be from ANSTI member institutions and may not exceed the age limit of 36 years by date of nomination. Applicants may not apply for studies in their home countries.

Fellowships, which cover fees, subsistence and international travel, are awarded to staff of ANSTI member institutions ( View ANSTI Members ) for postgraduate studies (M.Sc. or Ph.D) at African universities for staff development.

Fellowships are awarded to sub-Saharan African nationals for studies outside the applicants' home countries. The initial award of the fellowships covers one year. Extension is possible up to two years for Masters courses or more for Ph.D studies upon successful completion of previous year.

Applicants must hold a good bachelors degree (at least 2nd class upper division).
Applicants must obtain official admission to the host university prior to his/her application for the fellowship.

L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional fellowships "For Women in Science" in Sub-Sahara Africa 2010

For the first time the For Women in Science Programme is launching of the L’Oréal-UNESCO Regional fellowships "For Women in Science" in Sub-Sahara Africa to assist women scientists in Sub-Saharan to realize important scientific research in all fields of science, engineering and technology. This fellowship is open to all women citizens and permanent residents from Sub-Saharan African countries.

A. About the Fellowships:

* Fellowships will be awarded to women scientists in Sub-Saharan African to realize important scientific research in all fields of science, engineering and technology.
* Fellowships will be awarded for PhD research projects that will result in a Doctorate degree
* The research is to be conducted in any country in Sub-Saharan Africa.
* Fellowships up to the maximum value of US$20,000 will be awarded.
* The age limits for the candidate is 40 years
* The selected beneficiaries will be awarded their fellowships at a public ceremony.

B. Application Procedure.

* 1. Applications must be submitted on the official application forms available from African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions (ANSTI) based at the UNESCO Regional Office for Science and Technology in Nairobi, Kenya or downloaded from the ANSTI website www.ansti.org
* 2. The following information and documents must be included in the application:
          o The official application form
          o Curriculum vitae, mentioning the applicants most important
             scientific publications
          o Certified copies of degrees or diplomas
          o Detailed description, maximum of five pages, of the research
             proposal (including budget)
          o Scientific supervisor’s recommendation or recommendation by
             the head of the scientific institution where the project will be realized
* 3. Each application shall be signed by the Dean/Head of the unit in which the candidate will realize the research work
* 4. Copies of any documents (including scientific publications) that will assist the Fellows’ application may be submitted.

D. Conditions of the fellowships

* The objective of the fellowships is to help financially the fellows to realize promising scientific research to obtain a PhD degree.
* The beneficiaries agree to include mention of the Fellowship in any publications resulting from the research
* The fellowships will be paid to the beneficiaries in one installment after the fellowships official ceremony and signing the preliminary contract with L’OREAL Foundation
* The fellows agree to be photographed, filmed and interviewed by the media
* The fellows acknowledge that they will be photographed, filmed and interviewed by UNESCO and L’OREAL for purpose linked to communicating the “FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE” program and these photos, videos and texts will be used in publications and audiovisual means including but not limited to written press, television, internet, photographs and brochures including distribution to the media worldwide.
* The Fellows expressly authorize UNESCO and L’OREAL to produce, represent and use their image, name, distinctions and titles worldwide for unlimited duration. Such authorization shall strictly be limited to non-commercial uses and be directly related to the UNESCO-L’OREAL program for Women in Science.
* The Fellow shall notify the President of the Jury in case of: change of place of employment or research or resignation from the scientific project. After the reception of the notification the Jury decides if changes are allowed.

The Nigerian Conservation foundation with support from Chevron Nigeria Limited offers research grants to Nigerian wishing to undertake research work in fields related to nature conservation and sustainable livelihood.

The grant shall be for three years leading to a PhD degree.

Requirements:
1. Candidates must be Nigerian citizen.
2. Candidates must have M.Sc. Degree or equivalent qualification in Biological Sciences, Social Sciences, or Law (Environmental Law/Protection) but related to environmental resources management.
3. Candidates must have secured admission in a Nigerian university towards a PhD degree
4. Candidates must develop acceptable research proposal that meets NCF vision and mission.
5. Proposals must have correlation with local and national environmental conservation challenges.
6.Letter of reference from supervisor stating position on candidate's research proposal.
7. 200-word justification and relevance to natural and environmental resource management and biodiversity conservation.

ICGC-Compton International Fellowships provide research support to graduate students from sub-Saharan Africa or Latin America whose studies and research will address issues of peace, human security, and conflict resolution in these regions,

especially in relation to population and environmental concerns. The fellowships also aim to build and sustain a community of Fellows over time that can help link peace and security to population and/or environmental issues. Fellowship recipients must be committed to returning to the region to apply their skills and education. These guidelines are for students currently enrolled in doctoral programs at the University of Minnesota in relevant fields of study (please see eligibility guidelines, below).

ELIGIBILITY FOR A FELLOWSHIP

To be considered for an ICGC-Compton International Fellowship, applicants must:

(1) be enrolled in a doctoral program in the Colleges of Food, Agriculture, and Natural Resource Sciences; Biological Sciences; Liberal Arts; Education and Human Development; or the School of Public Health;

(2) have research interests that address the interdisciplinary study of issues of peace, human security, and conflict resolution in Africa or Latin America, and ideally look to interdisciplinary connectionsamong environment, population and peace; and

(3) receive nomination for these fellowships from the department or college in which they are enrolled. Receipt of the award is contingent upon the applicant’s department providing assistantship support during the year they are participating in our workshops and tuition and health insurance benefits for the fellowship year. Students should be at least one year away from dissertation fieldwork at the time of application (this enables them to participate in ICGC’s doctoral research workshop for the year prior to their research year).

In reviewing nominees ICGC gives priority to demonstrated academic excellence and commitment to the issues of the global south and disadvantaged communities.

AWARDS

Compton Peace Fellows will receive up to a $20,000 fellowship to support their dissertation fieldwork in their research year following successful completion of preliminary examinations and submission of an acceptable research proposal. They are required to participate in the DSSC interdisciplinary workshop on doctoral research in the year prior to dissertation fieldwork. Awards will be announced in March 2010.

APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Applications and supporting documents are due by January 28, 2011, at the latest. A complete

application will include the following documents.

(1) Statement of purpose, not exceeding two pages, clearly stating the applicant’s research program and showing its relationship to issues of the Compton International Fellowship Program

(2) Description of any past fieldwork and relevant language training and skills of one page or less

(3) Two letters of reference (one from the advisor, one from another faculty member) that address the ways in which the candidate’s dissertation and scholarly interests are related to the issues of the

Compton Program and ICGC

(4) Current transcript of the candidate’s graduate work

(5) Completed application form (forms are available from the program office in 537 Heller Hall, or can be downloaded from our website www.icgc.umn.edu )

The National Research Foundation (NRF) is a Nominating Agency for South African citizens seeking to apply for 2011 Commonwealth Split-Site Doctoral Scholarships.

Key features of the Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarships:

· The scholarships support attendance at a United Kingdom (UK) university or institution for one (1) year, under the joint supervision of the South African-based and UK supervisors.

· Applicants should be registered for a doctoral degree at a South African Higher Education Institution (HEI). The final qualification obtained will be from the South African HEI and not the UK university.

· The twelve (12) months in the UK can be taken at any stage of the doctoral study period providing this is justified in the study plan. Note that the time spent in the UK can be divided into two periods.

The scholarships cover:

· Full tuition fees for one (1) year at the UK host university;

· Stipend for up to one year (1) in the UK;

· Return Airfare; and

· Other allowances.

The Japan College of Rheumatology (JCR) will provide a grant to attend the 55th Annual General Assembly and Scientific Meeting of the Japan College of Rheumatology (JCR2011) and the 20th international Rheumatology Symposium in Tokyo on April 24-27 2011. The purpose of the JCR2011 international scholarship is to encourage young scientists and medical doctors under 40 years old other than Japanese to refine their knowledge of rheumatology and send their original scientific message to the world through the JCR annual meeting.

I. The offer is valid only for:

1. Scientists or medical doctors under 40 years old at the last day of the Congress (27th of April 2011)

2. Those who do not reside in Japan (except Japanese citizenship)

* Those who have ever received the JCR scholarship award are also eligible to apply, as long as requirements above are satisfied.

II. Scholarship grant

Maximum ¥150,000 (one hundred fifty thousand Japanese yen) / person + complimentary registration and hotel accommodation during the meeting

- From an Asian country: ¥100,000 (one hundred thousand Japanese yen)

- From non Asian country: ¥150,000 (one hundred fifty thousand Japanese yen) Maximum 15 grants are prepared

5. Abstracts should be submitted in English. It should be no longer than 2,250 letters in length (for the body of the abstract), and no more than 2,400 letters in total when the title, coauthor names (including affiliations) are included.

6. Abstracts should not include diagrams, charts and reference citations.

7. Choose the session your abstract will be presented.
