The St. Augustine Amphitheatre will be hosting a premiere for Kai Neville’s new surf film entitled Lost Atlas. The event will be sponsored by Nike 6.0 and include a full schedule of events, including performances by Le Blorr, Sunbears!, and Darkhorse Saloon, and activities such as a taco cook off and a surf merchandise sale.

Lost Atlas is the follow up to Kai Neville’s 2010 film Modern Collective. Kai Neville is surfing’s most progressive image-maker and returns with the world’s best surfers to create a new wave of futurism with his new project Lost Atlas. In “Modern Collective,” Kai Neville brought on the six most brilliant performers surfing could muster, and the academy approved. For his new collaboration, Kai rallies a dozen more surfers, including the original six for Lost Atlas, a project to defy all norms and expectations. A location based film shot in under 12 months, it takes the viewer on a candid jaunt into surfing today through the eyes of the most progressive, young surfers in the world.

The film is filed via country, and ridiculous waves are scored worldwide. From big Hawaii and fun Indo, to pumping Snapper and Todos Santos. All the locations you’d expect to see, captured from fresh angles and set to head nod-inducing beats. Barbados barrels haven’t seen film since Kelly Slater in Campaign 2 and the Soup Bowls footage got the crowd hooting for more. That, and the footage of 16-year-old Kerrzy and his Goldie crew, back when they all rocked homey steeze. Pure hilarity.

The film’s clearly influenced by early …Lost videos, which is a welcome change from everything that’s touched down out lately. Primarily a surf flick should stir a desire to shred, and by the time the credits roll you’ll want to paddle out.

At the conclusion of the film a chorus of “yews” and “aahs” rang out, and shot glasses were clinked. Good, old fashioned fun at a good, old fashioned film premiere.

Filmed over the course of the last three years, Brian Conley’s My Eyes Won’t Dry 3: Tubular Addiction is a cosmic journey through tubular time travel. Perhaps it was the funny smelling smoke wafting through the air of the La Paloma in Encinitas, CA. during the world premiere of Conley’s latest and greatest, but I was blown away by the quality and tubular radness of the latest installment of the My Eyes Won’t Dry series. Filmed around the world, the flick takes the viewer from Mainland Mexico to Indo and all tubular points in between.

99% hand-held point of view surfing, I don’t remember too many turns or airs—the movie is all about the tube. For some folks (my wife included) there were too many tubes, but in my eyes, tube riding is surfing’s Hoy Grail and an entire movie dedicated to the act is just fine.

With cameos by well-known pros Reef McIntosh, Bruce Irons, Nathan Fletcher, and Bol from Bali, the star power is there, but the real scene stealers are the underground bros that Conley’s been surfing with the last few years, dudes like Greg Russ, Gray Richards, “Sharps”, and “JS” who all pull into Mack truck sized barrels with and without the help of jet skis.

The groovy soundtrack was done by the talented Michael Eaton and the film was edited by Nathan Apffel, the same guy who made the highly acclaimed Lost Prophets: The Search For The Collective.
