I’m so very excited to announce my childhood portrait project is back! Thank you for making it such a success – I can’t wait to do it again! The Childhood Narrative is a portrait event capturing the essence, beauty and simplicity of childhood. A time for your babes to be completely themselves (the most beautiful way to be) and allowing their personalities to naturally unfold through a set of black and white images. You can expect to be with me for about 15 minutes for our session together, a little more depending if there are siblings being photographed.

Details // Santa sessions are for children and siblings only. If you have 3 children or more, please sign up for the Linger Longer session. Cousins may schedule two separate slots and combine sessions for individual photos and cousins together. A digital download will be provided within 2 weeks of your Santa session.

Details // Sessions with Santa are the sweetest time for your little one to climb on Santa’s lap, whisper into his ear and let him know their sweetest Christmas wishes. You never know, Santa may even let them touch his beard!

OPTION TWO: Linger Longer with Santa | $450

Includes:
– a longer magical session with santa, treats + the santa experience

– 5 digital images via digital download

Details // Linger longer with Santa is perfect for those who just want a little more one-on-one time with the big man, himself OR for multiple siblings. It allows more time to let the magic truly unfold. Chat more about your Christmas List, ask questions, maybe even have Santa read your little ones a story or cuddle up with milk and cookies.

General Details

Recommend Clothing // Our suggestions for children include winter/holiday pajamas OR simple clothing with neutral tones such as creams, greys, whites, browns, cranberry and emerald. Corduroy, henleys, knee socks, woven sweaters, knit hats etc are all sweet holiday options. Please no letters or characters, bright/large patterns, etc. Visit my Pinterest page with curated options and ideas.

Session Info // Sessions are scheduled to provide minimal wait time, separate from Santa, so each child’s visit with Santa is private and unique. However, a few minutes wait may occur. Please plan on arriving at least 5 minutes prior to your session time. As always, milk + cookies will be provided along with a festive and fun atmosphere!

Gallery upgrade options as well as special print pricing will be provided after the session.

Each session will last the approximate 5 minutes, give or take, unless the Linger Longer session is selected. Some children warm up to Santa quickly and some take a few minutes longer. I take however long we need to create a collection of images up to my standards. Please note that once a baby or child begins crying or melting down, it is difficult for them to recover, so I do my best to photograph quickly and efficiently.

THE RITUAL CANDLE

friends, there’s something that has been weighing on my heart. and if I’m being completely honest there’s probably something you might not have known about me…

let me back up.

in my ideal world, I would curl up in bed at night with the scent of ink on crisp paper pages waiting to be dog-eared, worn, highlighted and offer an escape into a world not of my own. in reality, my bedtime routine consists of panic when I realize the time followed by an internal conversation weighing the consequences of not washing my face as I crash into bed… and then scroll a blinding blue-light screen making purchases I won’t remember in the morning before passing out. wake up, repeat.

baffling and slightly embarrassing, I know. and there’s also this: I hate reading (I can’t believe I said that out loud).

but then… then a book came into my life that I couldn’t put down, a book that shockingly became dog-eared and worn and highlighted and offered an escape into a world that was actually my own. in reality, it changed me. it changed the way I thought, my habits, my rituals, my perspective on it all. and it was then that I took this small business, the sweat and tears and strain of building something from scratch and I gave it all away along with all of it’s joy, fulfillment and pride. it was equally terrifying and oddly comforting and there hasn’t been a day gone by that I’ve doubted my decision or looked back. because here’s the thing, it’s not about me. i’ll let that sink in. laura gattis photography is anything but me – simply put, it’s a gift that’s an honor to carry for however long I’m blessed to do so. I can’t think much further past that because, well, that’s where the terrifying sets in. but it’s ok, I know i’m being carried.

it was in this moment of offering up everything my life’s work culminated to when I asked God how I can serve him, represent him, honor him through my business. I mean, let’s be honest, this is a far cry from a philanthropy. I prayed this prayer and prayed it again. and again. annnddd again until one day it was so blatantly clear to me what was laid on my heart. laura, He said… just pray.

gosh, just typing that welts my eyes with tears as if it was fresh on my heart. pray. how simple is that? pray over them. and so I do.

I want you to know that my honor and grace is praying over every single client that walks through my door, their husbands, their children, all by name. it’s how I start my morning and begin each session I photograph. a prayer that I can capture their love and connection just as He sees, a prayer that whatever struggles they may face, that I can be the person they need to let go of it all, even for that moment, and let their love shine. a prayer of thanksgiving for the beautiful skies that backdrop us and for the stories my studio walls hold. I’m thankful for them, I’m thankful for you.

it’s now become my ritual: prayer & thanksgiving.

after nearly a year in the making, i’m so excited to launch a charity candle to celebrate all it. it represents every prayer offered that, like smoke, has sweetly risen above. for families and friends that have been carried on the heart. prayers wrapped over those not even known. for all that weighs heavy on a mama’s heart. for the celebrations and joy and reminders of love in between. for every word intentionally spoken and resoundingly heard. when you walk through the studio, may the soothing scent of the ritual candle always be a reminder of that.

as I begin this new year, i’m thankful more than ever for the opportunity to love and serve and get to know each and every one of you. for friendships held so dear to my heart and those on the horizon… thank you for allowing me in and sharing your hearts. here is mine.

the journey | a story through infertility

5 lost babies. then a glimmer of hope, the arrival of their son, fischer. on fathers day they hoped and prayed once again as Courtney and Jason implanted their last two frozen embryos. And then the beautiful, yet arduous, journey began to unfold once again… the journey to Brooks and Emmie.

23 medications, twice daily shots into the stomach, three shots total daily for nearly 20 weeks, bi-weekly IVIG infusions at home, weekly ultrasounds and blood draws multiple times a week. This is not a story for the faint of heart, this is a story of perseverance, a story of triumph, faith and incredible hope. It’s a story that is difficult for anyone to witness, let alone go through, yet so many are. Infertility is something we often hear and talk about, but the transparency of the weight it bears isn’t. I can barely comprehend it, myself.

When courtney asked me to follow along on a small piece of this journey, documenting some of their everyday throughout the pregnancy, I was beyond honored. I had no idea, however, how much it would change me. I sat frozen with pieced-out video clips and a handful of pictures wondering how I could ever do their story justice, how I could honor this journey with such a minuscule glimpse of the incessant sacrifices of both body and mind. But as I began weaving it together, somehow it transformed into more than just a story of infertility. I realized through everything their son, Fischer, was at the frontline of it all. He was included, loved and welcomed and the story of infertility somehow transformed into a story of family and their journey… together. The most beautiful story of all.

This week we highlight infertility awareness, and it’s a beautiful reminder especially during such a difficult month for so many – the month of mother’s day. But there are so many others who struggle in their own ways with motherhood. Whether through divorce, abuse, disease, cancer, depression, the impact of false social standards, broken families, of keeping up, of the constant swim upstream… we honor and think of you, too. You are seen and known and loved and most importantly, you are not alone. If courtney’s difficult journey inspires one mother struggling to keep moving, to show them there can be rainbows worth fighting for, that grace does exist and to not give up on faith, then together we have moved mountains. And that, my friends, is everything.
