Just spent two fun-filled weeks with my aunt Susie who flew all the way from Washington to see me :O)
We had a great time playing in the studio together, walking around the little villages and country roads in our area. We saw a castle and spent a day wandering around a gorgeous botanical garden. She taught me a bit about painting with watercolours and I taught her a bit about cooking vegan. We even managed to lose some weight while vacationing! It was a great two weeks and I miss her already!

Now that the fun is over, I'm back in the studio. I'm currently working on a large pandora bead order but I'll do my best to get some other beads made in between.

This is the Jim Moore beadliner, it's an awesome thing. It's what you use to line big hole beads, like those that fit onto Pandora bracelets, with a silver core. But you can line just about any size bead with this machine!

Luckily I love autumn, but it seems we are having 2 seasons worth in a row. My roses have mildew and aren't very happy at all...

I've got a busy weekend coming up, it's my birthday and we are having a dinner party on Sunday. I'm cooking vegetarian chili to serve over baked polenta and a salad. It's perfect for this cool weather. If you use seasoned TVP or veggie crumbles, I swear you will never notice that this is vegetarian. I will also have sour cream and cheese for toppings for the non-vegans at the party (which is nearly all of them ;O) ), they always seem a bit worried when it is my turn to cook...but cheese usually makes them feel more at ease :O)

It's another grey day here in Germany, we've had alot of them this summer. I'm not really complaining though because I'll take grey days to heat waves every time!

So my plans for the coming week are to spend the next 2-3 days in the studio since the weather will be perfect for it, then get some new listings up.

Wow, here we are in August, the summer has really flown by for me! My aunt will be coming for a visit this month, I can't wait to see her!

So I spent the whole weekend in the studio because they said it would be hot this week, well so far, it's actually quite nice and mild. I've spent the day cleaning, photographing, listing, updating the website, and sending out a newsletter, may not sound like much but it's been a busy morning!

It's a cool overcast day here today so I'm going to spend it in the studio while I have the chance. It's supposed to warm way up starting tomorrow, like a yo-yo, it goes from cool damp Fall weather to middle of the summer HOT in just a day. I hate it. I'm definitely an early Spring/Fall/Winter person :O)

I hope you're having the best summer ever! Here, meh, not so nice, at least weather-wise. Rain, rain, rain, 5 minutes of sunshine, then rain, rain, rain. The weeds are digging it, but my tomatoes are not happy campers. They refuse to turn red until someone turns on the sun. I've been working quite a bit in the garden this year, I've written several posts about that on the farm blog so check those out if you are interested.

Hello! Wow, yes, it has been a long time I apologize! Actually, this time it totally wasn't my fault. We had a problem with our service provider that ended up taking 8 weeks to resolve. I was having to use a proxy server or something like that which wouldn't allow me to update my blog. So, long annoying story short...I spent very little time on the computer. Instead I spent a good deal of time in the garden, we're off in a new direction with our garden, which you can read all about if you are interested, on my other blog.

Anyway, I'm back and I brought beads!

I'm so happy to finally be able to say that!

The tutorial is 55 pages long with well over 125 full-color images. The file is in high-resolution so it will look fantastic in printed form. In the back I have added an "At a Glance" section which shows a slightly smaller version of the images with no text just in case you don't want to print out the entire tutorial. Resurfacing...
Whew! I've been working pretty much non-stop on the new tutorial. I finally finished the rough draft, now my husband has it and is doing the formatting, proof-reading, editing, and other mysterious stuff that I have no clue about! I'm thinking maybe over the weekend it will be ready.

Meanwhile, while hubby is working on it, I'm setting everything up so that I can sell my tutorials directly through my website, best news about this is that they will be available via instant download! No more having to wait for me to wake up and send them ;O)

I admit that I tend to be a bit obsessive-compulsive when I am working on a project. I want to see it through to the end and I don't like the feel of unfinished things looming over my head so I will expend nearly all of my energy into it, until it is perfect...and ready.
Dr.s label this as a disorder, but in this case, it's a good thing! It means my new tutorial will be ready in just a matter of days :O)

This guy is currently on Ebay. It's the bead that I made during the tutorial and this is what you will learn. Not only the sculpting aspects but also my approach to using enamels.

I am estimating that the tutorial will be ready around the 4th of February. I'll be working on it until my part is ready, then hand it over to my husband for editing and polishing. I'm very excited!

Hares and Goddesses

I've wanted to include a hare design in my work for a long time but couldn't figure out exactly how to do it. With those long ears, an outright sculpture wouldn't be very practical so it needed be more of a bas relief or flat design. I finally figured it out thanks to my aunt Susan, the basic layout of her horse design is a perfect jumping off point for me and I have plans for the evolution of this design, but I must say that I really love this first bead.

I have a special place in my heart for the noble hare, an animal heavily steeped in myth, magic and folklore. I'm not talking about a cute fuzzy little bunny rabbit with a cotton tail, I'm talking about a hare; lean, rough, long-legged and rangie. Companion and symbol of Eostre , Hecate and a number of other goddesses. Symbol of the moon, fertility, endurance, survival against overwhelming odds...the hare.
And so here is the first, you will find it on Ebay.

Story of my life!

I had every intention of posting pictures of my latest beads a few days ago, but well, as per normal, I got side tracked. So here they are before I say anything else.

"Springs First flower"

This first one is a favorite currently. I love the organic textured feel and the colors....well, the colors make me really happy, I must say.

"WildRose"

This goddess is really lovely, the color shifts from warm blush, to soft dusty rose, to a gentle magenta. Sweeeeet....

Yes, it's a set! I'm just full of surprises lately ;O)

This is a gorgeous organic mini set.

I've got a few more beads starting over the weekend but I'll post about them later. I'm working on top secret stuff this weekend which I will tell you about in a day or two, I'm terrible about keeping secrets so I'll spill the beans soon, don't worry.

Yes! You read it right. I'm offering free shipping to anywhere in the world on all of my beads and jewelry, until March 1st. Why in the world would I do that you ask? Well, it's sort of a celebration. The German postal service has, for some odd reason, cut international shipping rates by nearly half, I'm definitely not complaining but how bizarre is that! So I thought I'd give you all a nice surprise :O)

After March 1st I will re-adjust my shipping fees so they are in line with the rate decrease. Shipping will then be about $5.00 to anywhere. It's so nice to beable to do something like this instead of always having to raise prices to cover costs.

So anyway, I was MIA last week for the most part. My husband was home sick and I had a bad tooth which I finally just got fixed an hour ago. Is there anything worse than a toothache? Well, probably but I was hard pressed to think of anything last week!

Spring Rehearsal...

...at least that's what it feels like! All of the snow is gone and I don't even need a jacket during the middle of the day. We even let our woodstove die for the first time in months. Of course this probably won't last but it's a nice break :O)

Since hubby is sick we didn't do anything exciting this weekend, just sort of lounged around. We are currently on a CSI kick so we watched several episodes. I knit a few more bowls, I have several now but need to work up the nerve to throw them in the washer and felt them. I'm afraid I'll ruin them so they're just piling up in some half-finished project limbo...

I also made another necklace. This one doesn't have any lampwork in it but I really love it! A few years ago my aunt Susan went to a gem and bead show in Seattle for me and picked up several strands of gemstones. One was this awesome strand of huge rough cut fluorite nuggets. I have been itching to use them but wasn't sure what I wanted to do with them. Well yesterday I finally figured it out. I've paired them up with jade, amethyst and sterling silver. I ended up with a necklace that Betty Rubble would be proud to wear :O)

I named it "Betty" for that reason. Here is a peek, you can see it in all it's glory in my Etsy shop!

Our weather has really warmed up I'm happy to say! The snow is melting away accompanied by a steady drip, drip, drip. The cats are even willing to go outdoors again to which I say thank goodness! They were driving us totally bonkers with all their wrestling matches, their tearing through the house like a herd of buffalo, their constant knocking stuff over and getting into stuff that they know they aren't supposed to, their waking us up at 3 a.m. cuz they are bored, etc, etc.

I still need to light the woodstove in the studio and dress warmly but it's a huge improvement!

Today I've got something to share with you that I'm really pleased with. It's my latest piece of jewelry. This is a necklace that I made yesterday using a stunning lampwork focal made by my very talented aunt Susan Mason.

I just listed it in my Etsy shop.

I've also got a few new beads up on Ebay that I'm really happy with.

I hope it's going well for you all so far! For me it has been pretty uneventful which is just fine by me! I spent most of the time knitting, making jewelry or just being a couch potato, it was fun and relaxing, just what I needed.
Of course too much evil food was consumed and reeked havoc with my diet, but it's only fat and I've lost it before (too many times)!

So yeah, I've gotta say that I am really enjoying the jewelry making! I've decided that since it is the beginning of a new year, it's a great time to offer a new line of jewelry. I'll be selling it through my Etsy shop. Of course each piece will feature my own lampwork, combined with fine quality gemstones, silver and also some copper pieces. I've got my first 4 pieces listed on Etsy. I hope you like them!

Well, it's finally here! Hope you've got all your shopping done, cookies baked, presents wrapped, etc. I use to be one of those who was out shopping until the very last possible minute. Now I shop mainly online and avoid all the stress and madness!

I decided to just have fun today, I also needed to finish up a few gifts. I made jewelry! I haven't done that in quite some time and I thoroughly enjoyed it :O)

My MIL requested a black seashell with silver on it. I turned it into a pendant with a handmade fine silver hanger.

Sorry about the quality of the pictures, I was too lazy to go out into the studio to use my photo box.

Then I made some tiny dangle earrings for me. This is the Montreux silvered glass from TAG that I mentioned yesterday. The two earrings really do match in color but you'd never know it from this picture :/

Then I made a bracelet using two more beads like those I used for the earrings and an experimental focal I made yesterday. Sterling silver beads and toggle clasp. I really like it!

So that was my day :O)

By the way, the Grinch bead I showed you yesterday is available, the order fell through. If anyone is interested in him, I am selling him for $150.00, send me an email and he is yours! I'm not going to list him on Ebay this late in the season.

Today was a play day... I always feel guilty for some reason when I don't make anything to sell, silly I know but I feel that way anyway. So today I made some beads for me! I want to make some cool little earrings since everyone can see my ears now :O) I also want to make a new bracelet.

I've been playing with TAG Montreux which is a lovely silvered glass. I only bought one rod of it when I was at the Flame On in the Netherlands, but I really love it! I used most of it today for my beads.

I thought I'd share a bead I made yesterday. This was a custom order for a proper Grinch. Green skin, yellow eyes, black eyebrows...etc. I like how he turned out, and since he is the last of the year, I wanted to share :O)

So anyway, tomorrow I'm making jewelry! I'll also try to get another goddess listed on Ebay.

I have another bead which I just listed on Ebay (she'll start at 9am pst.). She's a pretty little thing, but oh my, this bead was a nightmare to photograph!
I added a "Buy it Now" price since we are getting so close to Christmas: I think ending an auction on Christmas day is kinda silly. Whose gonna be looking?

Oh yeah, forgot to mention that she is already strung as a pendant. Of course it's a simple matter to cut her off this headpin if you'd rather string her yourself.

Still in the deep freeze here, with the occasional snow furry. I'm settled in for a comfy weekend by the woodstove...it's possible that knitting will happen, or a bit of reading, maybe felting... I'm not sure yet, I'm keeping my options open. Maybe I'll do nothing at all :O)

I've decided that this bead here (the one down below) will be the last bead I'll list until after Christmas. That doesn't mean I won't be making beads, I just won't be listing any until the 27th or so.

Winter Opal

We had another snow storm yesterday and persistently sub-zero temps. I worked for a few hours yesterday but then called it quits, I am just so tired of being cold all the time! Yes, I do love winter and snow but it really could be just a tinsy bit warmer couldn't it?

Ok sorry, I'll stop whining.

So I did manage one decent bead. I also got alot of prep stuff done like making goldstone stringer and dichroic stringer and a few murrinis. So it was productive even if there weren't alot of beads made.

I think I'm done in the studio at least until Monday, unless it warms up and I feel like working. Today is shopping and errands day. It will probably be a nice quiet weekend for us. I've got some knitting planned and that's as far as I've got.

So here's today's bead, listed it on Ebay last night. I have one more for the weekend which I'll post in the morning, I haven't photographed it yet.
