The New Orleans Hornets win the number one pick in the 2012 NBA Draft. Along with the number one pick, the Hornets also have the number 10 pick.

Magic will host Orlando Pro Summer League July 9-13

The Magic are back this summer to host the Orlando Pro Summer League from July 9 to July 13.

Knicks sign Mike Woodson to contract extension

The Knicks have signed Mike Woodson to a multi-year contract extension. Woodson took over as head coach in March after Mike D’Antoni resigned.

Mike Woodson will return as New York Knicks coach after leading them to their first playoff victory in 11 years.

The Knicks removed the interim tag Friday and announced they had given Woodson a multiyear contract extension, rewarding him for a terrific finish to what had been a turbulent season.

“Mike has the respect of every person in this organization,” general manager Glen Grunwald said in a statement. “He and his staff led the team in an impressive push into the playoffs over the last 24 games and we believe he is the right man to lead the franchise as we move forward.”

24 teams participating in NBA Summer League in July

In April, it was announced that NBA summer league would be returning to Las Vegas this summer. Now we now the 24 teams (23 NBA teams and a D-League select team) that will participate in Summer League in July.

A record 24 teams will compete at the 2012 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas this summer, the NBA announced Thursday. From July 13- 22, 23 NBA teams, including 11 that participated in the NBA Playoffs, as well as a team of NBA D-League Select players will compete at the Thomas & Mack Center and the COX Pavilion on the campus of the University of Nevada Las Vegas.

The 2012 All-NBA Teams have been named and MVP LeBron James led in votes with 118 first team votes. Kevin Durant came in second with 117 votes.

Report: Shaq to meet with the Magic about GM position (Updated)

Speaking for myself, I know I LOL’d when I saw this news pass through my timeline yesterday. The Magic are not commenting, but ESPN says “sources” say Shaq will meet with them about their vacant GM position.

Via ESPN:

A blast from the Orlando Magic’s past has emerged in the team’s search for a new general manager — Shaquille O’Neal.

O’Neal, who began his legendary NBA career in Orlando, may meet with the Magic as soon as next week, sources told ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard. While he has no front office experience, the Magic believe O’Neal’s presence within the organization could help them retain Dwight Howard.

Good luck with that Orlando.

Update: Shaq has declined to talk to the Magic about the GM position (Via NBA.com):

“When I first heard about the vacancy for the Orlando Magic general manager position, I was clearly intrigued.” he said in a statement. “I was drafted by the Magic, I have a great love for the franchise, and I have made the city of Orlando my home. Additionally, I have great admiration and respect for the DeVos family. However, this is not a job I have an interest in pursuing. I feel very fortunate to be with TNT and to have the best job in sports. I look forward to many more years with Charles, Kenny and E.J. I wish the best for the Magic and I am confident that they will select a great GM and coach.”

Miami Heat upset about Udonis Haslem’s suspension

On Wednesday, the NBA suspended Miami’s Udonis Haslem and Dexter Pittman for their actions against the Pacers in game 5. In particular, the Heat are move upset over Haslem’s one-game suspension and the league ignoring the Pacers “dirty fouls.” Erik Spoelstra says the Pacers have gone after Heat players before.

“The league does not have a problem with hard fouls on our two main guys,” Heat coach Erik Spoelstra said Thursday before taking on the Pacers in Game 6.

“In nine games now there’s been over a dozen hard fouls to the face, some of the tomahawk variety, some have drawn blood. They don’t have a problem with it, so we don’t have a problem with it. We’ll focus on what we can control.”

LeBron chimed in and said Tyler Hasnbrough has gone after Heat players before:

“I mean, Hansbrough, it’s not the first time he’s gone after one of our players this year,” James said. “We have two guys suspended and basically they have no one suspended.”

Erick Spoelstra also spoke on Dexter Pittman’s foul on Lance Stephenson and denied he was told to go after Stephenson (-_-).

I’m not surprised that the Heat are upset about Haslem’s suspension because they feel Hansbrough should be suspended as well.

Allen Iverson returns to Philly

Allen Iverson returned to Philly on Wednesday and it was emotional for him. A.I. presented the game ball for game 6 between the Sixers-Celtics and he was greeted with a loud ovation.

A.I. was interviewed by ESPN’s Lisa Salters and he said he wants to play basketball so bad.

NBA suspends Udonis Haslem & Dexter Pittman

The NBA has suspended Miami’s Udonis Haslem for one game and Dexter Pittman three games due to their actions in game 5 against Indiana.

Via NBA.com:

Miami Heat center Dexter Pittman has been suspended three games without pay for striking the neck and shoulders of Indiana guard Lance Stephenson, and Miami forward Udonis Haslem has been suspended one game without pay for striking the head and shoulders of Indiana’s Tyler Hansbrough, it was announced Wednesday by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations.

Both Pittman and Haslem had their Flagrant Foul Ones upgraded to Flagrant Foul Twos, as did Indiana’s Hansbrough, who struck the head of Miami’s Dwyane Wade on a foul that occurred shortly before Haslem’s foul.

Haslem claimed after the game he made a play on the ball.
