It feels as if Spring has already sprung here in Oregon...the cherry blossoms are budding and the crocuses are up. What a wonderful backdrop to get into a video game that we've been eagerly awaiting, "Disney's Alice in Wonderland The Videogame" for both the Wii and DS.

We'll be writing up walkthroughs for both versions (and it looks like the PC version is the same too) as soon as it hits stores on March 2. Of course, we wouldn't think of being late for that very important date...oh yeah, booya!

Best Buy and Walmart ax used game buy backs

Just saw this on Gizmodo. Apparently, select Best Buys and Walmarts had buy back kiosks where you could sell your used games. Both retailers have deemed the experiment a failure and GameStop has breathed a sigh of relief. Via Gizmodo

Video Game State of Play 2010

Digital Trends has a good article detailing the hopes and dreams of the videogame-o-sphere, 2010.

According to our favorite analyst (dripping sarcasm), Michael Pachter, it's the year of the hard core game, SUNDAY, SUNDAY, SUNDAY...BOOYA!

Although there are a number of AAA titles which will debut in 2010, the video game world has changed. Of course "God of War 3" and "Gears of War 3" are going to sell well, but they won't be ground breaking...for God sakes, they have "3" after their names (that's not to say that I'm not going to play the crap out of them).

What I'm saying is that Nintendo will continue to dominate the charts, just as they did in 2009 with silly fun games that everybody can enjoy.

I just get sick of hearing things like, "It's the year of the hard core gamer," when, actually every year is the year of the hard core gamer and then the casual games always outsell them. Ugh.

'Zelda: Spirit Tracks' Walkthrough and Strategy Guide near completion!

We've been plugging away at our LB Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks Walkthrough and Strategy Guide for the Nintendo DS, DS Lite, and DSi, and we are sooooo close to completion, it hurts.

So, here's the update. This evening we will be heroically fighting through the final temple. Demon King, consider yourself toast! Oh, and to you Cole, we aren't even going to discuss your fate.

We will be updating the LB Zelda: Spirit Tracks Game Guide as we go. Expect the polished version, complete with a Rail Map, Heart Containers, Stamp Station Locations, Rabbits, ALL Items, ALL extras, and ALL sidequests to be ready for download in two days...maybe three. No, let's say two. Two.

Assassin's Creed on Twitter (or is that Twassassins Tweed?)

Ubisoft has created a great Twitter app to help promote its upcoming Assassin's Creed II. From the Assassin's Creed Twitter page you can sign up to link your Twitter account to the app.

Once you've done that you're off and running. Check your @reply inbox on Twitter because you'll soon receive an assignment to take out a fellow player. To do this, you just go back to the web site and there is a built-in Twitter client where you can choose an action. It ends up looking like this:

@assassins_rome slash @LunabeanMedia.

At any given time, you may find yourself being hunted or being the hunter. At your disposal are a number of weapons and escapes, complete with upgrades as you rise in the ranks of the Twassassins.

Netflix on Xbox 360 - My favorite thing ever

There is news this week that in November 2009 the Netflix streaming service will be coming to a PS3 near you (here and here).

That piqued my curiosity as Allison and I had recently signed up for Netflix and the streaming service is currently active on the Xbox 360.

You see, our nearby Blockbuster closed and we're stuck with Hollywood Video. They charge $4.39 for new release rentals, so for the $9 that Netflix charges, we can get about 4 movies/month in the mail for the same price as 2 movies at Hollywood.

What I didn't expect to really find useful was the download shows/movies that Netflix offers. Sure, it's nice to think that I'd watch programs on my computer, but really, who wants to snuggle down with his wife to watch TV on a 19" computer screen? Well, not me, that's who!

Today, however, I decided to give the Xbox 360 Netflix app a try. The first step was to download it, which was a breeze (instructions here). In fact, it was really cool. I got an activation code on my TV that I entered into Netflix's website and within a few seconds, my Xbox responded with the message that all systems were go. Very slick.

I now had access to Netflix's entire library of "Watch Instantly" programs, which includes such awesomeness as Mystery Science Theater 3000 and Law and Order SVU (10th season). Dung...dung. Yes, I'm watching it as I write this.

What's more, I can browse Netflix adding programs to my "instant queue" and they'll be ready on my 360, or, I can just browse on the 360 and play my selection right away.

Yup. Right away. Within 30 seconds, my show is playing. That's frikin' cool. What's even better is that the $9 I'm paying to Netflix is now not just a good value for DVDs, but is a great value when you have access to an entire library of content.

Speaking of entire libraries of content, do you know about the LunaPass? It's our subscription service which gives you instant access to over 200 Lunabean walkthroughs and strategy guides. Seriously, I didn't plan that, it just fit in really well.

Oh, and don't bother me...I'm watching TV! I mean Netflix. I mean TV. Whatever, it's all one now, isn't it?
