I apologize for the lack of posts - the holiday season was insane, and after tackling a 9 month old who goes everywhere and gets into everything, I am wiped. But I really enjoy blogging and hate to think of all the hard work I have done getting followers and connecting with companies just gone. I am going to try to build up again, but I can't make any guarantees! So without further ado, here is post number one for 2012!!!

Purell Jelly Wrap Carriers Review

I was so obsessed with Purell when it first came out! I had several of the on the go carriers and took them everywhere! Eventually I switched to a different brand because those sanitizers were scented. I did not like some of their features as much but the scent caused me to stay. I still use the Purell pump bottles, at work when I was working, and I bought several when Baby E. was born to help keep him healthy among all of his visitors!

So I was eager to try to the Purell Jelly Wrap Carriers to see if they were as good as I remembered. Sadly, I was disappointed. Previously, the carriers fitted over the top of the bottle so the bottle stayed upright. Now, the bottle faces down, so the caps come undone during your daily routine. The sanitizer also spurts out when it is used. Also, before, the carrier had a longer loop (you could choose from 3 positions) so it was easier to access and to share with others.

However, there are good things about Purell Jelly Wrap Carriers. The to go nature itself is wonderful. Very easy to take anywhere with you so you are always protected. The sanitizer is also very smooth and blends into your skin easily. It was not drying either, which is such a plus!

Black Friday 2011 - I Survived Unscathed!

Did any of you go shopping on Black Friday? This was the first time in awhile I did a store opening - in fact, due to the new midnight opening times, I pulled an all nighter!! and I had such a great time! The best part is that I paid cash for everything, except BRU and, of course, Kohls. Below is a long summary of my night that I posted on a message board (edited to remove items I bought since people I buy for read my blog). I'd love to hear your experiences.

Started at 8:30 p.m. at the outlets, for B&BW, which opened at 9:30 (the mall itself opened at 10). It WAS DEAD in the entire place. At 10 p.m., the mall was giving out $10 gcs to the first 100 in line... I was 4th. Pretty good but by 10 I was frozen and my legs hurt. Went to a few stores there then headed out at about 11. By then it was busy outside but the stores themselves were not too packed.

Kohl's was next, right next to the outlets. Got there and NO LINE because everyone was in their car! What is the fun of BF if you are not going to stand outside? And at that point, it really was not too cold. Deciding what to do, a car pulled up next to me, 4 people get out and go to the doors. I couldn't really see them b/c of the cars, so I figured i'd just get out and go wait behind them... only to see them walking back from the end of the store. They asked me if Kohl's sold electronics... lol then left. So I ended up being the lame-o standing out there by myself for 15 min until others got out of their cars. TMI lady was behind me, annoying. Needed to get a dress for my NY Cares girl... but all they had was sleeveless!! What??? It is winter lol Got a sweater instead and a few other incidentals.

Had a lot of time to kill until Sears opened at 4, so I swung by Target. DH had bought the doorbuster online we wanted, so I was just casually looking for DVDs and sheets and the Pyrex set! On the way, my tummy started hurting female issue, so I needed to buy some Motrin. Parking lot was INSANE, lines INSANE, store packed. Had nothing left pretty much. Stood in line to buy my products then realized I could get them in Walgreens or CVS with no line, duh. Went to put them back on the shelf and the pharmacy register was open! So a quick checkout and I started feeling better soon.

Onto the walmart next door, same thing, DVDS, sheets, Pyrex. got a great parking space,and a nice lady gave me her cart. There was still a line to get in, had 5 frat guys behind me. Had no idea what personal space meant, and they were breathing on me and standing next to my cart. Ugh. They had fences up in a zig zag pattern to prevent rushing the store - smart. Store was chaotic, lots of people. Nothing I wanted, DVDs were picked over, no pyrex left.

Was almost 2 by now, and I needed coffee. Drove by fast food, panera, dunkin donuts, the diner... all closed. I had read that Starbucks would be open, but it was closed too. so I figured I'd just go to the other Target which had a Starbucks. Oh, like heaven,and I was good to go the rest of the night. That Target was quiet and had a bunch of doorbusters still! got my Pyrex and a DVD for DH. 2 people ahead of me in line... it was like a regular Target trip.

Off to Sears, messed up on times so I stood in line at 3 instead of closer to 4. Two guys in front of me, they were nice but I was mad i didn't stay in the car longer! The manager came our and moved us, about 3:30 more people were lining up. The best part was the mgr. came out to assess the items and see if they had enough for those in line - everyone was saying they were there for snowblowers, TVs, toolboxes... and all I wanted was baby pajamas lol! Glad I was there so early b/c they hardly had any, and I had been wanting them for awhile and they were $5 each! I think I was supposed to get the ornament but didn't say anything. It woulda be an Christmas present anyway lol

Then to Babies R Us for the 5 a.m. opening. It was 4:30 and NOBODY was there. I was the only car in the lot. I thought w/the diaper and wipes deal it would be packed. By 4:45, there were 3 other cars. Got out and waited. So odd. Bought the wipes, diaper genie refill, Gerber formula, gift card. In, out and back on my way home, with one more store to go.

STAPLES. I had to get some items. It was FREEZING and windy by then. 30 min to wait, they let people in 10 mins early, one to 3 at a time. But I was able to grab both and finally go home!!! Slept in til 11:30. Had to go to a birthday party at 1, ugh.

Sorry for the book! But I have not pulled an all nighter BF in awhile! I had so much fun though. Total success. Can't wait for next year!

Heelys Snekers Review

I will admit I have been kinda jealous of the people who wore Heelys. It is just so cool to have a sneaker that is also part roller skate! So I jumped at the chance to try them for myself!

I was sent a pair of the Heelys Wave sneakers to review. They are totally cute! The grey is muted, and that makes the pink pop! I also love their rounded look. They were a little tight on me - the bridge part rubs a little, but that is most likely because I have wide feet! I can still wear them just fine without major issue. I also like that the wheels are hidden when they are in.

I was a little nervous to try them with wheels for the first time. I made sure Jeff was nearby to catch me if i fell! lol!! And it was a little scary to give your balance over to a pair of wheels. However, the directions are easy to follow, and it honestly didn't take long for me to find my balance. Actually going somewhere took a bit more time! I did do it, though, glided along a short distance without holding on. With more practice I might be brave enough to use them outside. And, BTW, Jeff was so excited for them that he had to try them on! Of course they didn't fit, but I am now thinking a possible Christmas present...

Bathroom Re-Organization

I have posted in the past about very slllloooow ongoing kitchen reorganization. We are now deciding if we are going to get cabinets or replace our mobile butchers block with a bigger one. Until then, I am once again slowly organizing other parts of the house.

Both of our upstairs bathrooms are small, very small. The toilet, pedestal type sink and bathtub run the length of the bathroom, with very little space in between.. The width is as long as the tub. Both bathroms are the same way. In the "before" picture below, you can maybe see how tight the bathroom is. The sink is just out of frame. Our best option to add storage was an open shelf structure above the toilet. It holds a lot of stuff, but it is an eyesore. Since it is the hall bath, that is the one company uses, and it was a little embarrassing!!

The bathroom reorganization was prompted by my mom. I think she got tired of looking at all our our junk while she was here lol! We went out and she bought some bins. I decided on the more eclectic but matching style. I am so not a mtachy-matchy person! I went through each shelf and ended up with a huge bag of items that weren't needed in the bathroom at all.

After. So neat!

I maximized space by putting a small bin inside a larger bin (seen on the top left). The small bin holds my free samples - shampoos, lotions and other sundries. The larger one keeps cups, cotton balls, and larger boxes of bandaids together. On the middle shelf, the left bin holds makeup that I actually use (aka a million lipglosses), and the one of the right holds all of my hair items. You can see what the bottom shelf holds.

This was soooo simple, inexpensive, and it didn't take very long to do. As a bonus, the bathroom looks a lot brighter! Major thanks to my mom for being the catalyst I needed to get this done.

12 magazines (11 subscriptions - there are 2 Entertainment Weekly's in there) arrived within a 2 week period. I have a rack full of them to still read too - even more subscriptions lol. I love magazines so much, and all of those were either free or less than $10 for a year (except Real Simple - i just renewed for $15) ! I just wish they were easier to read when you have a 6 month old on your lap!

Caramel is one of my most favorite sweet things to eat. I love it on ice cream and in cookies and candy. But i usually don't use it as a dip. I am not sure why? Downy Unstopables Review

I will admit that I usually don't use these type of items. No fabric softeners, no yummy smelling things. But I decided to give this product a chance - and I am glad I did! It is so easy to use - just pour it into the bottom of your washer drum and let it work its magic in the wash. I usually forget to add it and have to move my clothes around to pour it in. You don't have to use much to get a good scent, either.

I first used it on my clothes and as surprised at how long the scent lasted, a week when they weren't used. I then used it on my towels and wow, it got some stanks right out. I think this product would be great if you have really smelly items like uniforms.

I would definitely buy this product again! I received the blue "Fresh" scent - I can't really describe what it smells like - fresh is a good way to describe it! I would buy it, as well as the purple "Lush" scent to see how it compares.

This week is going to be a busy week... getting everything ready for my parents' visit and Baby E's baptism, plus we are having game night on Saturday!!! And J will be working until 6 almost every night. Thursday is E's 6 month appointment, too. I will probably cut out a meal this week, but this what I have planned!

Monday: Pasta e Fagoli - modified to leave out the beans

Tuesday: Zesty Italian Crescent Casserole

Wednesday: Leftovers

Thursday: Healthified Impossibly Easy Chicken-N-Broccoli Pie (this has been on and off the menu for weeks!)

Friday: My parents get here!!!! So I am doing easy homemade - Crock Pot Baked Potato Soup

Normally, I do not cook on the weekends :) But this is an exception weekend...

Saturday: Game night via House Party!! MIL is bringing baked ziti, and we are having snacky items - cheese, crackers, chips, dip. Fun times!

Sunday: Lunch after baptism: ordering pizza and making Slow Cooker Lasagna with salad and garlic bread on the side. Cupcakes, pizza crumb and yet to be determined cookies for dessert1 YUM.

Happy 6 Months!!!

I cannot believe Baby E is 6 months old today!! It seems like forever ago that he was born. And he is changing right before my eyes!

All of the sudden he is rolling over, both ways, all the time. He sits up on his own, unassisted and not bearing weight on his hands, for quite a few minutes. He always wants to sit up so he can see what is going on (just like his mom lol!) and still loves to stand. he is getting so tall, to me at least, he is almost a head taller than the bottom of the rocking chair.

He's in his crib for night and naps now - unswaddled totally! And he always ends up against the rails.

He hasn't started "army crawling" yet but I am sure that will be soon. He can turn himself around and around to get to where he wants to go. He can push himself up to standing and to sitting.

He LOVES eating, loves all of the fruit and veggies he has eaten except peas and squash. He is also teething... lots of drool and some crankiness.

I love this kid so much and can't really imagine life without him! Happy 6 months sweet boy!

Eggless Peanut Butter Cookies with White Chocolate Chips

What a day. It was supposed to be rainy, so I planned to bake... just baby E and me, for the first time since he was born. The few times I have baked, Jeff has been home to watch the baby. But, I didn't have eggs and had to use up the milk. I wanted to use up some canned pumpkin, too, but couldn't find a recipe that used what I had on hand. So, I asked around and eventually found a peanut butter cookie recipe. But it was after 3:30 by the time I could make it... after I put a very cranky boy down for a nap. So i had to rush through them (taking a lot longer than I thought... thankfully after his nap the babe was just fine hanging out in the bebe pod in the kitchen) but thankfully Jeff got home way late from work today, so I was done by the time he got here. Phew. So much for a relaxing rainy day LOL!!!

Fresh out of the oven and still puffy!!

Eggless Peanut Butter Cookies with White Chocolate Chips

Makes approximately 3 dozen cookies

1/2 c. unsalted butter

1/2 c. margarine
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar, firmly packed
5 tbsp. skim milk
1 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 c. creamy peanut butter
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 cup white chocolate chips

Thoroughly cream butter, sugars, milk and vanilla. Stir in peanut butter and add dry ingredients. Stir in chips, Drop from a teaspoon onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Press down with a fork. Bake at 350 degrees for 12 to 15 minutes.

Yum!

Here are some tips:

These cookies are thin and chewy, but not crumbly
Let them cool for 5 minutes on the pan before transferring them to the cooling rack
The dough was super soft for me - it was much easier to work with after being in the fridge awhile

Don't forget that this Saturday, you can get into museums around the country for free, thanks to The Smithsonian Magazine!! It is time once again for free museum day. Jeff and I have gone to a couple. But don't forget to print your ticket - the first year Jeff and I had no clue we needed a ticket, and a lady actually YELLED at us when we tried to get into the museum. Ridiculous. So please print your ticket!

I am not sure if we are going this year - busy weekend as they all are - but I hope we can go, because I'd love to take Baby E. I know he;d love to look around at whatever museum we end up at. You can find a list of participating museums here.

Easy "Lasagna" Skillet Recipe

So, the other day, about noon, I realized that I was going to make something in the slow cooker for dinner but had totally forgotten!! We are not as stocked up as we were before the hurricane (a good thing overall) so there wasn't much to eat for dinner except the old standby pasta... but neither of us really wanted plain pasta. Luckily I had gotten some Philadelphia cooking creme and was able to adapt the Easy Lasagna Skillet recipe to suit what I had on hand. Such as... lasagna noodles with bugs in them! (thankfully my other pasta was fine), no hamburger meat, no peppers and a different flavor cooking cream. OK So I basically created a new recipe! Here ya go...

Easy Pasta Skillet
Makes 6 servings, aprx. 1 1/2 cups each

1 jar (24ish oz) pasta sauce, with meat
2 1/2 cups water
1 box pasta, penne or similar
1 tub Philadelphia Cooking Creme, garlic and herb or whatever you'd like

Stir in sauce and water. Bring to boil. Stir in noodles; cover. Simmer on medium-low heat 18 to 20 min. or until noodles are tender, stirring occasionally.
Add cooking creme; swirl with spoon. Remove from heat. Let stand, covered, 3 min.

My Favorite Five Month Old...

It's so funny that July drrrraaaaagggggeeeeed on and on but August was over in a snap, mostly due to my parents being here a week and spending 5 days at Disneyland!!

Last Thursday Baby E was 5 months old! On Monday he went in for his 5 moth checkup. (Our dr does appts every month for the first 6 and gives shots at 5 of those 6 appts!) His stats: 15 lb.11 oz.and 24 inches; 40th percentile for weight and 25th for height. But 60th for head circumference lol!!! right where he has been pretty much.

On Monday!

He is doing everything he should except rolling over. He can stand - even hold himself up with one hand standing. He can sit by himself on a soft surface, without leaning on anything. On hard surfaces, he sometimes can lean on his hands. He LOVES the bebepod.

As you can see, he can hold his feet, hold and grab just about anything and everything! His aim is getting better. He can move himself in circles. And of course EVERYTHING goes in his tiny little mouth. Fingers are still number 1, but toys, noses, burp cloths, teethers, washcloths... all are a close second!

But the kid will. not. roll. over. He has rolled front to back about 4 times, and back to front once the other day. But he just wants to either hold himself up to look around or kick his feet and wave his hands. Doesn't care to see what it is like on the other side!

This kid is soooo happy. All the time unless he is hungry or wet. The best is when he laughs <3 We are giving him rice cereal but his lovely pooping issues returned so we switched to oatmeal. He has been eating fruits, and we are starting veggies tomorrow! He has LOVED everything so far. This kid has always been an eater lol
