Detective Keith Dressel Memorial Ride

Almost 2 and a half years ago, Police Detective Keith Dressel was shot and killed in the line of duty. As a memorial, a couple hundred bikers get together annually for a police-escorted ride through NW Ohio.

One of our neighbors is an Oregon Police Officer and primary organizer of the event. All of the proceeds from the annual event benefit the Officer William Miscannon Scholarship Fund at Owens Communitiy College.

Fireworks Launcher

The Fourth of July is one of my favorite holidays. We get to celebrate our independence and blow stuff up. I've always been called a pyro, and it is definitely true. Unfortunately, I had to work on the 4th this year, so I had to live vicariously through Darrell. This past Wednesday, we built a fireworks launcher. We've made a few in the past, but this year is the first time that we attempted mortar tubes. As soon as I get pictures of the launcher in action, I'll post them. Whitehouse Cherry Fest

In what is becoming a yearly family tradition, Susan & I rode down to Whitehouse, Ohio, to the Cherry Fest.

My favorite part of the festival is the Whitehouse Firemens' chicken. They cook what looks like thousands of them on a big open pit. The chicken alone is worth the trip.

Alexandra Updates

I have had several people ask me how Alexandra is doing. Unfortunately, I do not have good news. She is back on the heart transplant list. The heart that she got last year was damaged by rejection and is failing. Hopefully, a new heart will come through for her so that she can start recovering again. Ride to LaRoe's

We found a cool restaurant in the town of Grand Rapids, Ohio, called LaRoe's. It has an old-time tavern feel on the inside and a bistro feel on the second story deck that looks over the Maumee River.

Gyro & Kabob Express

I've written about Gyro & Kabob Express before, but it's time to mention it again. They recently renovated the restaurant. It used to have only a couple small tables and not much of a dining room. As you can see from the picture, after the renovation the dining room is greatly expanded. Sam, the owner, is thrilled with the results. Next time you're at Airport Hwy and Holloway in Holland, stop in for a sit down dinner. Just promise to tell him that we sent you.

Grill Stand

My neighbor across the street had a propane grill that he had converted to charcoal. The grill's stand broke, and he wanted a stand that he could sink in concrete. Arch cut & I welded angle iron into a heavy duty stand and post. Of course before we gave it back, we tagged it with our bike logo! Full Albums Grill Stand LCC's Projects Collection

Overdue Updates

After the successful poker run, I decided to take a month off from updating this site. That's not to say that we didn't actually do anything or go anywhere for the past month. When the weather would cooperate, we were riding somewhere. I'll get everything back up to date over the weekend.

Earlier this Spring, two of our friends certified on all position at work. They threw a "checkout" party a couple of weeks ago. It was a great time spent with great people. Ride for Alexandra's Heart

The "Ride for Alexandra's Heart" was this past weekend, and it was an unbelievable success.

First of all, I would like to thank everyone that helped in the planning of the event. I would also like to thank all of the companies and individuals that donated silent auction items and food and drinks. It would not have happened without all of your help.

Secondly, I would like to thank all of the motorcycle clubs, organizations, and individual riders that rode in the run. The Christian Motorcyclists Association, Star Touring & Riding, and the Toledo Sportbike Riders arrived with the most riders.

Last, but by no means least, I would like to thank the owners, managers, and employees of our stops. The folks at Tony Packo's, Pub51, and Skeeter's were first rate and very accommodating. Now for the important statistics... We had about 75 bikes with close to 90 registrations. The total net proceeds that will be donated to Alex's Children's Organ Transplant Association account is nearly $2500! Thanks again to all who were involved! Ride for Alexandra's Heart

This Saturday, May 30th - after 6 months of planning, we will finally ride the "Ride for Alexandra's Heart. We will be starting with registration at 10am at Homecoming Park in Holland, Ohio. From the LCC fax machine - The Toledo Police Department is sponsoring the Detective Keith Dressel Memorial Ride on July 11, 2009. The Ride starts at the St. James Club on Bancroft. Registration begins at 9am, and the ride leaves at 11am. The route is 63 miles. The ride is $25/single and $35 with passenger. Fee includes a shirt and lunch following the ride. Hens Game

The group got together and attended a Mud Hens game this week. The Hens went down 2 runs pretty quickly, but it looked like they were going to rally after a homer in the 8th. Unfortunately, it wasn't meant to be. They lost 2-1. We had a great time though. The weather was perfect, and nothing beats hanging with friends, watching some baseball, and eating stadium food!
