Ludhiana, March 03, 2026 (News team): Holi is one of India’s most vibrant celebrations, but for doctors it also marks a noticeable rise in eye injuries and skin problems. Emergency rooms frequently see cases of eye irritation, corneal abrasions, conjunctivitis, rashes, acne flare-ups and even blunt trauma linked to synthetic colours, contaminated water and balloon injuries. Many commercially available colours now contain industrial dyes, heavy metals, mica and chemical pigments that can irritate the delicate surface of the eyes and disrupt the skin barrier. Fine particles may lodge under the eyelids, while wet colours that remain on the skin, and harsh scrubbing to remove them, can trigger inflammation and secondary bacterial or fungal infections.

“Holi-related eye injuries are largely preventable, and when they do occur, outcomes depend heavily on how quickly they are addressed. In ocular emergencies, the first hour can be critical. Prompt irrigation and early consultation can prevent long-term damage,” says Dr. Parveen Rani, Associate Consultant Ophthalmology, Fortis Ludhiana.

How to Protect Your Eyes and Skin

Choose certified herbal or skin-safe colours.
Wear protective eyewear such as sunglasses.
Apply moisturiser or coconut oil on exposed skin and around the eyelids.
Prefer dry celebrations and avoid contaminated water.
Wear full-sleeved clothing.
Avoid throwing colours directly at the face or using balloons and high-pressure sprays.
Keep access to clean running water and lubricating eye drops.

If Colour Enters the Eye

Rinse gently with clean running water for 10–15 minutes.
Blink normally to flush out particles.
Do not rub the eyes.
Avoid home remedies like rose water or milk.
Seek medical help if pain, blurred vision or redness persists.

For skin, wash gently with lukewarm water and a mild cleanser, avoid scrubbing, moisturise immediately, and consult a dermatologist if symptoms do not settle.

Holi should create memories, not medical emergencies. A little preparation and timely action can ensure the festival remains joyful, without lasting harm to your eyes or skin.

There is also a misconception that bariatric surgery is only about looking slimmer. But its primary goal is improving health and quality of life. Patients often report better mobility, improved fertility, enhanced mental well-being and reduced dependence on medications. For many, it means being able to play with their children without breathlessness or sleep peacefully without a CPAP machine.

Moreover, it is also believed that bariatric surgery is only for the ‘extremely obese’. Jalandhar, February 27, 2026 (News Team): UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is introducing a major upgrade to its visa application process with the continued rollout of eVisas. From 25 February 2026, most UK visa customers will benefit from this digital transformation.

The eVisa system replaces traditional visa vignette stickers in passports, meaning customers will no longer need to part with their passport while a decision is being made on their application. It also means customers will only need to visit the Visa Application Centre once to confirm their identity and submit documents if required. This innovation provides travellers greater flexibility for international travel plans.

“Over 10 million people are already using secure and convenient eVisas, which are replacing physical immigration status documents such as biometric residence permits (BRPs) and visa vignette stickers in passports. We are now in the final phases of implementation, with eVisas becoming the default evidence of status for most immigration routes to the UK,” said UK Visas and Immigration.

“The move to eVisas will significantly enhance the customer process for travellers, providing them the ease and flexibility of retaining their passports, allowing for applications to other countries in the interim. Ludhiana, February 09, 2026 (News Team): Ovarian cancer is both critical and potentially life-threatening disease that affects the ovaries which is the key organ of the female reproductive system. Despite being less common than some other cancers, ovarian cancer is the third-most common gynaecological cancer in India and has been one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women. It is also known as ‘silent-killer’ due to delayed diagnosis as it is diagnosed only in the last stage in 70%-80% of the cases. However, increased public awareness and access to diagnosis and treatment can essentially improve the outcomes.

The ovaries play a vital role in producing eggs and hormones such as oestrogen and progesterone. Ovarian cancer develops when some of the abnormal cells in the ovary begin to grow uncontrollably. There are several types of ovarian cancer with the most common originating from the epithelial (the outer lining of the ovary), followed by germ cell (egg-making cell) and stromal (hormone-producing cell).

Ovarian cancer can affect women of all backgrounds but certain factors increase risk. These include increasing age (particularly after menopause but below the age of 55), a family history of ovarian or breast cancer, inherited genetic mutations such as BRCA1 or BRCA2, never having been pregnant and prolonged use of hormone replacement therapy. The presence of risk factors does not guarantee disease development but prominently highlights the importance of vigilance.

Challenges in Early Detection & Symptoms
Early detection of ovarian cancer is difficult as its symptoms in the initial stages are often mild, nonspecific or mistaken for common digestive or urinary problems. At present, there is no reliable screening test for ovarian cancer in women without symptoms, which contributes to many cases being diagnosed at an advanced stage.

Although some symptoms may appear subtle, they tend to be persistent rather than occasional. Signs such as persistent abdominal bloating or swelling, pelvic or abdominal pain, difficulty eating or feeling full quickly, increased urgency or frequency of urination, changes in bowel habits and unexplained weight loss or ongoing fatigue are some of the symptoms that require immediate medical assistance. Persistent symptoms that are new, unusual or worsening should not be ignored. Early medical assessment can lead to prompt diagnosis and significantly better outcomes. Individuals experiencing such symptoms regularly for several weeks should seek experts’ evaluation without any delay.

Treatment of Ovarian Cancer
Though ovarian cancer is curable if detected in the early stages, the treatment depends on the stage and type of ovarian cancer along with the patient’s overall health. It typically involves surgery to remove cancerous tissue, often followed by chemotherapy. Targeted therapies or hormone treatments may also be used in some cases as suggested by the doctors. Early-stage ovarian cancer responds far more effectively to treatment than the advanced disease. New techniques such as HIPEC are extremely useful for advanced stage disease.

There is no certain way to prevent ovarian cancer. However, studies suggest that factors such as pregnancy and breastfeeding may reduce the risk. For individuals with a strong family history or known genetic mutations, preventive surgery may be considered following specialist consultation.

Recently IndiGo’s widebody operation has faced external operational constraints; continuously changing airspace constraints due to geo-political circumstances, congestion at airports both in India and abroad. These factors significantly increased flight and block times causing strain over the airline’s 787-9 schedule that is operated with six wide-body aircraft. From 07 February 2026, IndiGo will reduce its Delhi – Manchester services from 5 flights per week to 4 flights per week, and further reduce to 3 flights per week from 19 February 2026; thus reducing its total connectivity to/from Manchester from 9 weekly to 7 weekly services. This scale adjustment was originally planned to be introduced in the Summer Schedule 2026; however, it is being executed earlier to ensure reliability to the rest of IndiGo’s long-haul operations.

To ensure optimal availability of recovery time in operating patterns, the days of operations will also be adjusted as per below.

IndiGo is proactively reaching out to the affected customers to offer alternative flights or issue timely refunds and compensation as per the applicable rules.

As part of IndiGo’s ongoing Internationalisation journey, the airline had started a widebody project in March 2025, by executing a damp lease arrangement of six Boeing 787-9 aircraft from Norse Atlantic Airways. This project was set up as an intermediate solution for global expansion and a pre-cursor to IndiGo’s own A350-900 widebody inductions in early 2028, to gradually upgrade the airline’s internal capabilities for the larger expansion in future.

IndiGo regrets that the prevailing circumstances have affected the airline’s operational reliability on its 787-9 routes. By making these adjustments to its schedule the airline strives to improve reliability of its long-haul services and reduce disruption to connecting itineraries booked by its customers. IndiGo will continue monitoring these external developments and flexibly scale its network up or down to align with evolving conditions.
