Description of Website Sections

The LDS Archives website is divided into sections depending on what type of material it is. For example, a statement by President Monson would be under LDS Quotes. Or, a thought by C.S. Lewis describing how we should make the most of each day would fall under the section Surviving Each Day.

On this home page (www.ldsarchives.blogspot.com) you can also subscribe to our site's feeds. You can always return to this Main Menu (home page) by clicking on the link "Back to Main Menu" located on the link bar of every section's page.

Page Layout--Understanding the layout of webpage

In each section of LDS Archives, main parts of the layout are as follows (see image below):

1. Navigation Bar-- This is a row of links to the other sections of the website. This way, you can quickly change between sections without having to always start at the home page.

2. Topic Links-- This is an alphabetical list of all entries of that section based on labels given upon submitting.

3. Submit and Help-- This is where you click to submit your own material. If you are not sure how, click on the "How?" link.

4. Recently Added-- This is a list of the most recent submissions to that section of the website. It is based on the title of the submission/post. This feed updates every 30 minutes.

5. RSS Feed Subscribe-- Click on "Subscribe to Daily Updates (RSS)" to get a live feed of all content of that section of the website. For more information, please see RSS Feeds.

RSS Feeds allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest stories, quotes, etc. from LDS Archives website. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually, and by ensuring your privacy through a secure internet connection.

There are many ways you can add this "live update" (see below.)
If none of those fit your need, the easiest way to keep track of new LDS Archives submissions is by Live Bookmark. After clicking on the "Subscribe to this feed" button, click on "View Feed XML".A page with this symbol will appear. Choose "Live Bookmarks", and then click "Subscribe." A box will appear where you can rename the feed to something you will remember.

That's all! Now to see the feed for that section of LDS Archives, click on the bookmark at the top of your browser. The most current submissions and uploads are at the top of the list.To easily add and view all LDS Archives RSS feeds, download Feedreader3--a free and safe program by clicking HERE.

Upload Song / Music

To upload a song in the Music section, send an email to the Web Administrator at registerldsarchives@gmail.com with the following:
Songs cannot be larger than 4 MB.

1. Subject of email: "ADD MY SONG"
2. your first and last name
3. your City and State you live in
4. Name of Song and artist
5. Source (where you got the song from)

**Your name and residence will NOT be posted with your song. We ask for it to keep track of songs that are submitted.

Delete Your Account

Add Pictures to your Submission

When typing up your story, quote, etc. in LDS Archives, you can add pictures. In Artist Gallery of LDS Archives, adding pictures to that section of the website is done the same way.

1. Within the "Create Post" page, click on "Add Image."2. Find your picture on your computer by clicking on "browse", or upload off another website. Do not use pictures that are copyright without including the website, artist, date--you need all the proper citations for that image. ALL pictures must have the artist and source of where you obtained the image.

Please do not upload pictures larger than 1 MB without contacting the web administrator first at registerldsarchives@gmail.com.

3. On layout choose "Centered", and on image size choose "Large". Click on the orange "Upload Image" button at the bottom.4. The new uploaded picture will always appear at the top of your post. If using the "compose" tab (located at the top right of your brown post window), then you can re-size the image by dragging the corners. Size can also be manipulated using the "Edit Html" tab, next to "compose" tab.

How To Submit Your Material

To submit your material on any section of LDS Archives, do the following:

1. At the top of the page, under the navigation bar, you see two links. One is to create your post ("Click here to submit"). The other link ("How?") takes you to the Help/FAQs page on how to create a new submission.
2. After using the "Click here to submit" link, a window will appear. This is where you type your material. If you want a template for the post (so you don't forget anything) then click on "Edit Html". You will then see text explaining where to type or paste your material.3. When you are finished, click on the "Compose" tab. The template text will disappear and only show your material. Make any additional changes you desire. Finally, click "Publish Post".4. Important: Even before beginning a new post, look at the "Topic Links" on the left side of the webpage. See if any already listed fall into the category or topic that your submission is. If not you can create a new one, but use pre-existing post labels if possible. For example, I looked to see if my "Learning to Share" talk would fall under any labels already made. I saw on "Topic Links" one that said Sharing. I'll use that as my post label.

Note: On the image below the label "Honesty" has the number two in parentheses. This indicates that two separate posts have the same label of "Honesty". At the bottom of the post window there is a text field labeled "Labels for this post". This is how we categorize the submissions to LDS Archives. Think of your submission as a whole--what is the main topic or idea. Narrow it down to one to three words and type it in that field.

For example, in this submission the Church Talk was titled "Learning to Share". So, the label would appropriately be "Sharing", which I typed into the label field. You can have up to two topics or main ideas. Separate them by a comma.5. Click on "View Blog" to return to the LDS Archives website. That's all!
