This tutorial will discuss the fancy secure registration forms, with AJAX technology support. In this article I suppose you already know HTML and some JS. I will write the code using WhizBase Server Pages, so you need to know some basics in WBSP.

The Structure
I will first explain the structure of our registration form, as I am using AJAX, I will not have any refresh for our page, so I will have one main page with the HTML and JS code.

For validation process I will use one WhizBase file, for submitting of the registration data I will use another WhizBase file.

To store the registration information I will need a DB, I will use the simplest one, Microsoft Access DB.

Every registration process needs a confirmation process to reduce spam registrations. So I will need one WhizBase file for confirmation, for sendin the email I will use two files I wil explain later why.

Now let give names, I will create default.wbsp, validate.wbsp, submit.wbsp, mail.wbsp, blank.html and confirm.wbsp. I will create reg.mdb for DB.

Registration Elements
The registration form will contain a user name, first name, last name, email and password. All element are required, so no element must be empty. The user name must be available, the password must be repeated to confirm the password and the email must be real.

Let me know explain this HTML and JS code. The HTML code have the basic elements of the registration, I have input text fields to insert data need for the the registration with two password fields for the password, the second is for confirmation. Finally I have a submit button and a div for viewing system messages.

The JS code have two functions, one is the AJAX JS function, the other is the validate function which I call when I submit the form.

You will notice I am calling AJAX for two reasons, one is for validating the data in the form, the second is for saving the data in the DB.

WhizBase do not recognize lines, it’s code is directly ebeded in HTML, so any extra white space or break will show in the HTML, so I have removed all white spaces and breaks I do not need.

Here I am connecting to my DB Access file with the record set (table) profile, making a Query command and giving a where clause option username="$wbv{username}", where $wbv{username} will show the parameter I sent by AJAX by get or post method. For WhizBase get and post are the same.

I am limiting the records with 1 maximum, because I just want to check if the username already exists in the DB. If there is no records I will set the msg variable empty, I will need this variable later in the code. WBM_NoMatch gives "No Matching records" message by default, I do not want that, so I am just setting a variable.

If the query above returns data I will give an error message that the username is not available, I am saving the message in the msg variable. I m using an if statement and check if $wbp[rc] which returns the number of records are equal to one.

Checking the email if it is valid is a little more complicated process, I need to check if has @ sign. If it has at least one character before and after the @ sign. If the domain name part before the dot has at least one character, and the TLD part is at least 2 characters but not more than four.

Finally I display the error messages I have collected, if no error messages are provoked I will have an empty variable. This data is showed by AJAX in my messages div.

The Database
Before I go with the submitting data process, I need to show you the DB I have created. It is one DB containing one table called profile. Profile contains seven fields. The id is auto-incremental field. The confirm field is a number type field with zero default value. The rest fields (username, fname, lname, password, email) are text type fields. I am saving the DB as “reg.mdb” access file.

Submitting the data
The submitting part is not just saving data to the DB, it is calling the email file to send a confirmation request email.

Before I come here, in JS I am passing the parameters in the URL a little bit different than before. I am putting wbf_ prefix for every parameterI want to add to the DB. WhizBase takes them automatically and filter them, then adds them in the location we specify.

I am returning to AJAX the message "You will recieve a confirmation email to finish the registration process.".

By this I have data in the DB, but it is still not confirmed. I have created a confirm field in the DB which has by default a zero value.

Sending email
Sending an email in WhizBase is very easy, it supports HTML by default, anything I write in this file after the "<!–WB_BeginTemplate–>" code, will be shown in the email. So I must be careful what I am writing.

The command P is for sending custom email. I specify from who I am sending, from which mail server to whom email and the subject of the email. After the  "<!–WB_BeginTemplate–>" code I write everything I want to show in the email, which is also a link to the confirmation page, with the id of the profile I saved.

I am calling this file by wbgeturl function, which will show me the data returned from the file called. So I need to return nothing by redirecting the page I am calling to blank.html. Which is a blank file. The redirect in WhizBase is made on the server side, so I do not get the message of the email, but the blank page.

Confirmation process
When the guest makes a registration he will receive my email for confirmation, the link to the confirmation must be clicked, which will call my file for confirmation.

The confirmation will update the DB, and put value 1 in the field confirm for the specified profile. Updating the DB is simple, I specify the DB name, the recordset (table) name, the U command for update, I specify which field is the unique identifier for this process. In our case it is ID. And I will force one parameter as it is sent with the URL call, it is wbf_confirm = 1.

Finally I tell the guest that he become s a user. In the next article I will show you how to make a Login in WhizBase code.

mbrwiz /list (note down disk number of your USB Pen drive)

mbrwiz /disk=X /active=X (X is Disk Number of your USB Drive)

exit

MBRWiz

6. Now open another command window and type following command

J: (Drive letter of Windows 7 iso mounted with demon tool)

CD boot

bootsect /nt60 Y: (Y is drive latter of your USB drive )

Update BOOTMGR for USB Pen Drive

7. Now copy all files from drive where you have mount Windows 7 iso

8. Now reboot your computer and press F9 to get your BIOS screen and select USB drive as your boot drive.

9. If every thing goes fine, Your Windows 7 Installation should start from your USB drive.

15. Answer Y(es). Select 1, Select 1, Answer Y(es). Press Esc, when done. You are back on A: prompt. Shutdown the virtual machine. And repower it. Again select CD-ROM support. And wait.

16. Now type format C: answer Y(es). Enter volume label, if you like. Now you have formatted C: drive.

17. Type CDROMDRIVE:setup.exe, where CDROMDRIVE is most likely E: Press Enter, to let scandisk to.. scan disk. Now just follow onscreen instructions.

18. When it restarts, take out the floppy image , so it will not boot from it.Click Edit virtual machine settings. Hardware tab, click Add… Next. Choose Floppy Drive. Next. The bad stuff you need to get rid of is all in your Windows folder.Before you begin, gather your Windows and application CD-ROMs. Back up your data files (just to be safe), and then clear two days off your calendar. If everything goes smoothly, you can reinstall Windows in a few hours. But you have to assume something will go wrong: You may not be able to find a necessary CD, or data won’t be where you thought it was, or something will simply refuse to work.

Windows 7 Without Losing Data

There’s a difference between a repair reinstall and a complete reinstall. Though a repair (also called a refresh) will let you keep your current settings, a complete reinstall will give you a truly fresh version of Windows. Repairs are fast and easy, but they don’t fix anywhere near as many problems. The instructions below are for total reinstalls, except where noted.
Your Vendor’s Restore CD

Windows 7 Without Losing Data

Most computers ship with a vendor-specific restore CD rather than with a Microsoft Windows CD-ROM. (If your PC came with a Microsoft Windows CD, or if you bought a retail copy of Windows, skip to the section for your version.)

Some restore CDs give you all the options of a full Microsoft Windows CD, but with better instructions and the convenience of having all the right hardware drivers. Others can do nothing except reformat your hard drive and restore it to the condition it was in when you bought the PC. (This case is the exception I mentioned above that requires a reformat.)

If your restore CD is reformat-only, back up your data files to a network or a removable medium before reinstalling Windows. If you use Windows 98 or Me, back up C:My Documents, plus the folders inside C:Windows discussed in the 98/Me section below. If you have Windows 2000 or XP, back up C:Documents and Settings. Also back up any other folders in which you store your data files.

These Windows versions keep some important data inside your soon-to-be-erased Windows folder, so you need to copy several of its subfolders to another location. Apple continues it’s rise in popularity, you can feel safe in making the switch to an Apple computer now because there really is nothing it can’t do. With the addition of Apple Boot Camp software, which now comes with the Leopard version of Mac OS X, you can easily setup Windows XP or even Vista as a dual boot system.

There are a few tips that I can give you to make this process go smoothly because even though it is easy to get everything setup, there are a couple of things in the setup guide that I didn’t bother to read first that caused problems.

Windows on Mac OSX Leopard COMPLETE

The first step is to run the Boot Camp Assistant application. You can find this by going to Applications -> Utilities. Run through the steps in this wizard and create the partition for your Windows installation. When you finish, it will ask you to put your Windows installation disk in. You will need to make sure you have a full installation disk, not an upgrade disk. Also, if you are installing Windows XP then it has to be a SP2 install disk.

Windows on Mac OSX Leopard COMPLETE

Put in the installation disk and restart. This will allow it to boot to the installation disk and start the Windows installation process. Go through the installation wizard to the partition selection page. At this page, select the Windows partition you created with the Boot Camp Assistant. On the format options, make sure you select the Full format FAT32 option. You cannot use the Quick format option or it will cause problems with finishing the installation.

After the Windows installation has finished copying the installation files to the hard drive and restarts, make sure you hold down the Option button so it gives you the option to boot into the Windows partition. assumes you are using IDE drives, although SCSI isn’t much different except that instead of setting master and slave, you will need to set different IDs for each device, with the last device in the chain set to terminate.

Why?

As your computer ages, your hard drive will likely fill up with software and files. If you’re too lazy to clean it up and remove old programs or have already done that and need more space, a new hard drive can give you a lot of additional storage. You could also set up another hard drive for keeping a second OS on (like NT, Linux, etc.). Setting up a second hard drive can also be beneficial if you choose to use it as your swap drive. A newer hard drive will likely be faster than your old one, so you may want to move all your software to the newer hard drive (thus, the newer hard drive would speed up your computer).

How?

1. Remove the case cover. Make sure you have room for another hard drive! You need to have an extra connector on an IDE cable (or an extra connector on the motherboard for which you would need to get another IDE cable). Just look in your case for the IDE cable(s) attached to your hard drive and CD-ROM drive. If there are extra connectors on the cable, you’re in business. If there are no extra connectors, but there is another cable or a connection for another IDE cable (would need to be the same size and right next to the currently used IDE connector on the motherboard) then you are also okay but may need to get a new IDE cable.

Next, make sure you have a place where the hard drive can be installed! There should be a 3 1/2 inch bay for an extra hard drive (but not in all cases). If not, you don’t want to get a new hard drive because it is unsave to have it in your case not properly mounted.
Last, make sure that the cable will be able to reach where you plan on putting the hard drive! If it can’t reach without some reorganization of the cables, there’s not much you can do!

2. Provided you have room for the hard drive, check all your current IDE devices to see what the jumper settings are. Most IDE devices (Hard Drive, CD, etc.) will have jumpers that will match up to a description somewhere on the device of what those jumpers mean. Your current hard drive should be set as master. For each cable, if there are two devices on it, one should be Master, and one should be Slave according to the jumpers. Keep this in mind when installing your new hard drive. You will usually want your hard drive to be master unless there is another hard drive on the cable (then one must be master and the other slave) i.e. if there is a CD-ROM drive on the cable you are putting it on, you will want to change the CD-ROM drive to slave and set the new hard drive as master. You also want to have your boot hard drive as the Primary Master (one IDE connector is Primary, the other is Secondary, labeled on your motherboard).

3. Place the hard drive in a proper bay (preferably where it will receive good air flow to keep it cool). You will want the silver side of the hard drive to be on top, and the connector facing towards the motherboard so that you can plug it in. Find an extra power cord (from your power supply) and connect it to the hard drive (you can buy splitters if you don’t have extra power connectors). Plug your IDE cable into the hard drive. Close up your case.

4. You will now want to go by the procedures in How To Install Windows from scratch for setting up the new hard drive with fdisk and format. The only difference is that you won’t want to set this partition active.

Windows 7 from MSDN. Having missed the initial rush, I was hitting download speeds of around 1.5 mb/s on my 15 mb down FIOS connection. After I had the ISO, I figured I would avoid the nightmere of deleting and repartitioning Boot Camp and try a boot right from my newly burned Windows 7 DVD and reformat from the installer. In hindsight, it seems that Mac OS X does not recognize that there is a Windows volume as a startup disk now – only Mac OS is dispalyed in Sysytem Preferences > Startup Disk.

Based on my previous experiences with Vista x64 installs on my MacBook Pro, I went to a very useful post I had bookmarked on getting the ISO to be bootable (after some digging, this other post outlines basically the same thing). And sure enough, it was even updated for Windows 7. If you do this right off the bat, you won’t see the “Select CD-ROM boot type” with no way to make a selection.

Windows 7 RC on Boot Camp – Mac …

I reformatted my NTFS drive for a clean install of Windows 7, and the install proceeded without a hangup [insert your look of surprise here]. I followed that up with an install of the regular Boot Camp drivers from Apple on my OS X CD (version 2.01) – you can also download them via a torrent – and then the Boot Camp x64 update from Apple (2.1).

After installing Boot Camp, what happened next completely blew my mind – EVERYTHING WORKED. This was a great releif, since after every Vista x64 install I found my WiFi non-functional (had to download my own Atheros drivers) and the ATi graphics driver was sketchy (fixed with modtool). In my opinion, Microsoft did a great job of playing nice with Apple drivers this time around – they even show a nice message in the event that a driver is unsupported as opposed to the blue screen common with Vista.Windows 7 from MSDN. What is RSS?

RSS is an acronym for the de facto standard for syndicating Web content. An XML-based format used in many different ways to distribute many kinds of content, its initial (and still most widespread) use is as a news headline provider. Anyone who wants to share their Web site content with others can create RSS documents and register with an RSS “publisher,” and that content is expressly provided for others to use on other sites. The syndicated content can include much more than headlines, of course, and be in the form of a news feed, event listing, news summary, project status report, discussion forum excerpt or even a corporate annual report.

The acronym has been applied to different things, so the RSS term is most often understood to describe the process (syndicating content) than the underlying technology. When you hear someone mention “RSS,” the person may be referring to one or even all of the possible definitions, to wit:

RDF (Resource Description Framework) Site Summary, which is numbered RSS 0.9 and 1.0;

Rich Site Summary, for RSS versions 0.91 and 1.0; and

Really Simple Syndication. RSS 2.0.

For a time, which seems to have passed, people distinguished among the acronyms by understanding “RSS” to mean RDF Site Summary and/or Rich Site Summary. When speaking of Really Simple Syndication, however, most people in the know would call it “RSS 2.0,” rather than simply “RSS.”  It seems that the term is almost globally understood to mean Really Simple Syndication now. The most current version is still RSS 2.0 and it is fully backward compatible with RSS 0.91. Netscape initially developed RSS, but the RSS 2.0 specification was authored by Dave Winer of Userland fame.

It’s what’s inside that counts

RSS 2.0 quickly became the definitive RSS version all due to its support for “enclosure tags.” These optional fields let publishers include links to files, which can be just about any common file format. Businesses have seized on this potential, and began including Flash tutorials, streaming audio, PDF documents, PowerPoint presentations, podcasts of meetings and marketing communications portfolios in their RSS distributions.

Many businesses have been slow to see the opportunities available with this, well, really simple tool. The power and flexibility with which RSS can be used is actually quite astonishing. Here are some excellent ways that businesses can use RSS:

PDF documents: You can “broadcast” meeting notes or other documentation as a PDF file included with your feed, allowing people quick access to information without dealing with possibly bulky e-mail attachments.

PPT Presentations: Presentations can also be distributed in a feed by use of the enclosure function. Images: RSS feeds from realty companies can display photos of homes to potential buyers. Realtors can copy a feed to a laptop (or smaller device) a lightweight catalog with them to show potential buyers at a moment’s notice.

Downloads: IT departments in large firms can perform software updates, including with the RSS feed “executable” or compressed files so that users can do the updates at the most convenient time.

Into the future with RSS

Software “feed readers,” which have been incorporated into most major e-mail programs, are playing catch-up now, as the original news “aggregators” were designed for text-based material. As businesses and other creative users push the boundaries of RSS, reader developers continued releasing new versions to support the enclosures and attachments businesses were eager to supply.

Users can define a “safe list” to include certain types of files, like text documents, mp3s and PDFs. Software testing is an investigation conducted to provide stakeholders with information about the quality of the product or service under test.[1] Software Testing also provides an objective, independent view of the software to allow the business to appreciate and understand the risks at implementation of the software. Running software testing projects is far more difficult than people outside of the software testing arena seem to realize. Software Testing is an investigation carried out to provide information about the service or product to the stakeholders. It also provides and independent view to allow people to understand the inherent risks involved in using that software.
Thus it serves as a warning system and prevents possible losses if implemented correctly.

Different users require different softwares. For e.g. a banker would need banking software and a gamer would need gaming software. Hence when a company develops or distributes software, it should be able to judge whether its product is acceptable or not to its end customer and software testing allows it to do that. According to a recent study by NIST, bugs in software costs $60 billion annually to the US economy. A third of this can be avoided by conducting better software testing.

There are various reasons for bugs in software like programming errors, compatibility with earlier / later versions, hardware compatibility, etc. Software testing aims at examining the code and also executing it under test conditions.
Few techniques used for this purpose are:

2) White box testing,
3) Grey box testing,
4) Integration testing,
5) Regression testing,

Destructive testing.

As a common practice, an independent testing group does software testing before the product is delivered to the customer. There are many approaches towards software testing. It can be conducted on basic modules or units of the software individually. This is called unit testing. It can also be conducted on the entire software at the same time by putting it through some test cases. This is called system testing. It can be done to check its compatibility with other hardware and software. This is called integration testing. Before the product is dispatched to the client, additional tests called alpha and beta tests are done. Alpha testing includes testing the final version of the product by treating the testers as the end users. Beta testing is done after alpha testing by distributing the product to a select audience outside the testing group for feedback.
Software testing is advantageous as to an extent it can highlight bugs in the code, test the software compatibility with other hardware and software and predict customer response to a product. The limitation of software testing is that it is unable to test under all operating conditions. It can only test the product’s failure under limited test conditions.
There are many certification programs that certify professional software testers. However no certification today actually checks the software tester’s knowledge and ability in his field. A certification alone is unable to guarantee the tester’s capability hence many believe this filed isn’t ready for certification yet. However it is a fast emerging field and promises exciting careers for its aspirants.

IDEs of today are designed to harness a programmer’s maximum productivity potential by providing highly integrated source code editors, compilers, automation tools and debuggers amongst other tightly interweaved components. This trend percolated into all types of programming — from enterprise application development all the way through embedded development. The key driving force behind this trend was the ever increasing size of the application code.

The need to accelerate time-to-market through automation and the requirement to facilitate training and increase a developer’s productivity also aided in this transformation. This gave rise to the near ubiquitous availability and use of products like Microsoft Visual Studio for Windows application development and the Open Source Eclipse environment for Linux and other platform development. Another popular feature built into the advanced IDEs of today is collaborative development support, fostering code sharing among development team members.

As code size and complexity increases, each of these tasks (and others) becomes more arduous, especially when using only command-line tools. The majority of Java applications development is IDE-based, thanks to tools from IBM, Symantec, Borland, and others. Silverlight 1.0

This is the first release of Silverlight technology in 2007. There are lot of releases happened in initial stage of Silverlight technology, however later at end of the year 2007 final release of version 1.0 got released. Originally this release was called WPF/E, which stands for Windows Presentation Foundation/ Everywhere. This release consists of the core presentation framework, which is responsible for UI, interactivity and user input, basic UI controls, graphics and animation, media playback and DOM integration.

The Major drawback of this release is not supporting managed code, which means you can’t use .NET supported programming languages for manipulating GUI elements. This was managed by scripting programming languages like Java Script (Only interpretation no compilation), which is hard for non Java Script programmers.

Applications are written either completely in XAML or in a mix of XAML and JavaScript with DOM (Document Object Model) to manipulate the user interface. Since there is no managed code there is no compilation required only JavaScript is interpreted on the client (browser).

Silverlight application starts by invoking the Silverlight control from the HTML page, which then loads up a XAML file. The XAML file contains a Canvas object, which acts as placeholder for other elements. Silverlight provides various geometrical primitives like lines, ellipses and other shapes, to elements like text, images, and media etc.

Silverlight 2.0

After Silverlight 1.0 there are preview releases to fix bugs from initial release and improved performance issues then released Silverlight 2.0 in March 2008. We can consider this is the first release of the Silverlight for start application development because of lot limitations in Silverlight 1.0 and was not ready for developing applications efficiently. This is the exciting release to the developers, which supports managed code, living in the .NET world without managed code is very difficulty (actually not possible ). Silverlight 2.0 supports .NET programming languages like C#, VB.NET to write business logic or manipulate UI Elements at client side. Silverlight 2.0 is based on .NET Framework 3.5.

You can have a code behind file for every XAML (.xaml) file like ASP.NET (.aspx) pages to handle the business logic. It can be used to programmatically manipulate both the Silverlight application and the HTML page which hosts the Silverlight control. The XAML markup as well as the code, is compiled into .NET assemblies which are then compressed using ZIP and stored in a .xap file.

In this release Silverlight came up with own library, which is subset of .NET framework’s Base Class Library this included controls, components, support of web services and LINQ API features. It is also provides security, not to access Silverlight platform API from outside the world.

Adobe Flash is the most popular competitor to Silverlight both supports browser plug-in and enables execution of rich content for the Web. Flash is not the new technology, which is already having long life span as compared to Silverlight. But it does not have huge community as expected; it may be cause of limited development tools, which are not kwon to most of the developers. Flash uses ActionScript as programming language and Flex as programming environment, which most of the developer are far from these technologies.

Bookmarking is one of the important task which yofu need to master effectively if you constantly surf the web daily. OpenBookmarks is an excellent alternative to the default bookmarking option provided by Internet Explorer. The tool enables you to create new bookmarks, rename, delete and move bookmarks. In addition to these features it also helps you to keep track of duplicate bookmarks.

As soon as you open the tool after installation, it displays a list of all bookmarks saved inside Internet Explorer. You can directly navigate to the website by selecting a bookmark and clicking Visit Website button. There is also an option to preview the website in a mini window. These features can be disabled from the options dialog (Tools | Options) as shown below

I noticed that I can only select one bookmark item at a time using OpenBookmarks. I would prefer to select more than one item by holding the shift key. I hope the vendor will add this feature in the upcoming release.

You can use this class to retrieve information such as command-line arguments, exit codes, environment variable settings, contents of the call stack, time since last system boot in milliseconds (tick count), and version of the CLR. Members of the Environment class are described in Table 21.13.

The System.Environment.SystemDirectory property returns a string containing the operating system’s directory (e.g., c:\winnt\system32). You can use the Environment.UserInteractive property to get a Boolean value indicating whether the current process is running in user-interactive mode. (User-interactive mode means the user can send inputs to the process and see outputs with his or her eyes!) UserInteractive will be true if the current process is running in user-interactive mode. 
To list the environment variables, open the command prompt console, type “SET,” and press ENTER. You can obtain the values of any of these environment variables by using the Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable method. Simply pass it the name of the environment variable for which you want to obtain a value, and it will return the value as a string. For example, if you want the name of the user who is currently logged in, you can use the following:

Today the Internet is everywhere, we use it in everything, it is the buzz word of our time. When it first began it was just an experiment, a network for exchanging some data between universities, no one used it for exchanging private data.

Today it is 90% social powered network, everyone have a profile on some social website, a lot of people have money accounts on the net, some others have galleries and private data. So now we have to take care about security, how to secure our data, we need a good password, most people use «trustno1» or «000000» or their birth dates. That is not a good password, any cracking engine can guess that one.

Making a good password
A good password must have numbers, alphabetic characters (upper and lower case), other characters, they must be in a random order and must not mean anything. So do not use English words with meaning or some number combinations of something in your life.

A good example for a good password is ubXr-z9)7mn: we have upper and lower case letters, we have numbers and we have other characters. This password is nearly impossible to guess.

We will show you how to make password strength meter in WhizBase. The concept is easy, the user enters the password, we check it if it has all the 4 elements in it and give strength value back.

So let us start.

Give me your password
We will make a simple HTML form where we will ask the user to insert a username and a password. It is the standard form you can find everywhere on the net. Let us name it «index.htm»

Some notes about this code, we always use POST method in the form to hide our password when sending it through the web, we need the username to check if the password contains the username in it. We will create the file «chpwd.wbsp» which will make the checking for us.

Mambo Jumbo stuff of the code
Before we start we need to write down what we want to check and how we mark the password strength. I will make a list of things we need to check and every point have 1 point mark. So if the password passes 3 out of 6 it will have 50% strength.

1. The length of the password must be at least 8 characters
2. The password must not contain the username in it
3. The password must contain numbers
4. The password must contain special characters
5. The password must contain lower case letters
6. The password must contain upper case letters

Now let me explain what we have done. First we have created a variable which will contain the strength value, starting with zero because we assume the password is not good and then check every point and give a mark for success. In this tutorial I will aim to show you how simple is making a small application in WhizBase, how to add, remove and update data in the DB. I will make a small address book application where you can add, browse, update and remove addresses.

I will use a MS Access DB (.mdb file), but you can apply this tutorial for any DB you want, there is no significant difference, and the concept is the same.

We will make one default page which will show us all the records sorted alphabetically, then two files for update, one for delete and two for addition.

I will not go through the SQL or the Access file creation, I will just describe what we need in the DB. We will need one table named contacts. It will have the following fields:

Id as integer(9) autoincreament primary key
Firstname as char(255)
Lastname as char(255)
Tel as char(255)
InsertionDate as DateTime

Whatever DB type you use, you will need these fields, so create the table and lets begin. I have created my contacts.mdb access DB file.

This file will connect to the DB and select all the contacts sorted alphabetically by first name:

In our first file we connect to the DB file contacts.mdb, which is located in the same folder as default.wbsp. In WhizBase we give instructions for DB connection at the beginning, so we first make [FormFields] section which is the start of the file header. We specify some parameters, WB_BaseName is the path of the DB, WB_Command will be Q as for Query. WB_maxrec will be 20 records, we want our address book to paginate the records in 20 rows each page. And WB_Order will be Firstname, because we want to sort the report alphabetically by Firstname.

<!–WB_BeginTemplate–> will mark the end of the file header. We now make the design of our address book. <!–WB_BeginDetail–> and <!–WB_EndDetail–> are used to loop through the query results. WhizBase brings you the data automatically, so you do not need to assign any variables or arrays. You need just to put the data placeholders in the code.

$wbf[fieldname] is the placeholder, as the system loops through the query result, for each row we take the value of the field name we want to show, in our case we are showing the id, firstname, lastname, tel and insertiondate.

We made three links, one for edit, another two for delete and add commands. Take a look at the edit and delete links, you will see that we are giving a wbf_id parameter. We will need that later.
