Fall arrivals are landing in droves, but the season hasn’t quite turned, and it shows—bare shoulders, easy linens, sandals that aren’t ready to retire. What’s shifting, however, is the intention: everyone unveiling their post-summer selves, sun still on their skin, but already layering in the first hints of what’s next. A suede bag here, a boot-cut pant there, longer sleeves, knits tied around the waist--essentially fall sneaking into the frame while summer still insists on leading the outfit. My 16-year-old niece stayed with me before she left for boarding school back east, and let’s just say my closet became her summer playground. The same wardrobe she once dismissed as “too preppy” was suddenly a treasure chest: she swiped jeans, ballet flats, oh, and this new blouse and even my pajamas with zero hesitation. Honestly, I loved it. We ran a full-scale soundcheck for each other’s outfits: she got a second opinion on what to wear to babysit, I got a nod for my Zoom meetings. It was dress-up, but for real life (see above in Cos and Madewell with a Parker Thatch bag strap styled as a bolero!). And the best part? The shared wishlist we’re currently building together, including the brown nylon parka (or the silk taffeta Kallmeyer windbreaker with charm/keyring, below), lace-trimmed shorts (in a zillion colors for less at Intimissimi), the Pixie Market funnel collar leather jacket, the off-the-shoulder EB Denim t-shirt, the sleek black Reformation dress and yellow blouse, and the plaid Zara balloon pants. I tagged along to my sister’s Parker Thatch shoot in downtown LA, and it left me brimming with inspiration. Watching creative director Sarah Clary work her magic was like a live masterclass in everyday style cues that feel anything but everyday. A few things I pocketed: The power of a white blouse. Not just any button-down, but one with that subtle unbasic twist, like Sarah's (DIY) asymmetric buttons. I'd work these ready-made options from TWP, Cissa and Madewell. It’s the kind of piece that instantly upgrades denim, sweatpants, anything. Meanwhile, my sister demonstrated how to turn a simple bag strap into a belt—a styling sleight of hand that transforms the expected (her head-to-toe whites!) into something fresh and personal. Me? We’ve arrived at that pivotal week—the liminal stretch where late-summer haze still clings to the day, yet there’s no denying fall is at our doorstep. And already, next season's must-haves are moving fast. Case in point: the Khaite boot—perched right on the precipice of selling out, despite temps still hovering in the high 70s. (Prada is also doing a western boot, but less expensive versions by The Reformation and Jeffrey Campbell work too.) Also emerging: bags built for 24/7 office hours that actually carry it all while still looking polished, like Sienna Miller's Gucci get, below, and this sleek Mulberry. I’m delightfully stunned: the Tory Burch skirt I wore (and linked to) a few weeks ago turned out to be a runaway hit, clocking in at a 229% conversion rate (!). Clearly, it struck a chord. Which is why I’m extra excited to share that Tory Burch has just rolled out a private sale. On my shortlist: the faux croc body suit (masterfully modeled by Leandra Cohen, below) , the flared yellow skirt (similar in spirit to mine, above), and this slim tweed jacket—each one chic, versatile, and primed for heavy rotation. Given the numbers we saw with that skirt, I’d say the odds of these selling out are… well, statistically significant.

Maybe it’s the back-to-school air, maybe it’s the thrill of a fresh season, but this year feels different. The racks are offering an unusually abundant buffet of options—textures, silhouettes, and moods I didn’t think were “me,” but am suddenly curious to try. (I wrote a whole Substack about this last week.) The little risks, the small jolts of surprise, the moments when you catch a glimpse of yourself in something unexpected and think… wait, is that me? I hit the mall for back-to-school shopping yesterday and left with several back-to-business scores I didn’t even see coming, including the very High Sport-spirited J.Crew knit kick-flare pants, above (love how it's styled too), the red chino jacket (inspired by The Row and you will need some version of it this fall), and the easy-to-layer knit shell, below. I also tried on this corduroy-collared barn jacket (size small!) and love the idea of wearing it zipped up, sleeves rolled up, as a shirt. Another fall-ready take-away: tie something on (this and this) for added texture.

Last night at a party celebrating Clare V's newly-expanded Silverlake boutique, my vintage toe-ring Chanel sandals drew a quiet but steady stream of compliments. It felt like a personal style victory--especially in the company of LA's biggest fashionistas--but also, perhaps, a sign of the times. According to a recent Vogue feature, toe rings—dormant for decades save for the occasional bohemian cameo — are officially a THING, their delicate loops lending an architectural elegance to the foot, plus a jolt of sparkle. If you’re toe-ring-curious, the easiest entry point is footwear—a subtle strap looping around the big toe, creating that same focal point without the actual jewel. Something about the light in Copenhagen always looks a little different. Softer, maybe. Like a filter that whispers instead of shouts. (Or it could just be Sandra Semburg's brilliant photography, featured here.) This season at Copenhagen Fashion Week, the light isn’t the only thing that hits differently; the vibrant saturated colors we’ve come to expect (and adore) from Scandi girls—the unapologetic chartreuse, the fuchsia on fuchsia on fuchsia—have given way to a more nuanced palette. Think soft grays, muted yellows, dusty charcoals, winter whites. Not boring neutrals—wear-everywhere neutrals. The kind of tones that don’t demand attention but still hold it. And I’m 100% into it! There’s something quietly radical about this restraint. I'm now eyeing a few standout pieces cropping up again and again this week: the stalwart white tank top, suddenly elevated when tucked into a long suede skirt or peeking out from under oversized blazers. There’s lace, too, peeking out too—just the edge of a slip hem under an otherwise simple knit, and yes, baggy jeans are here in full force, worn low and loose, paired with basic knits, above, or sharply tailored outerwear. I like the new ones by Staud and Madewell--the proportions are perfect. Also, strappy sandals continue to dominate, so I just stocked up on these. This more toned-down Copenhagen still feels like Copenhagen: inventive, layered, and deeply wearable.
