Voici deux chutes du shoot Victoire. Régine à droite bloque le soleil avec autant de style que jamais.

Cette fin de semaine, on m’a placé sur divers toits d’Ottawa parmi un groupe d’artistes provenant de plusieurs disciplines. Cependant, il faudra attendre jusqu’au mois d’août pour ces photos.

Here’s my fave:

I was probably six years old the first time I saw the Slayer logo. One of the older students had branded the grade 5 door of my school with it and “Pink Floyd” written in a similar fashion. I had no idea what either of these meant at the time but I was eager to find out.

This all reminds of of something I made about four years ago. I thought I was so funny. Check it out:

This Sunday, June 21 at 12 noon, if you have a skateboard, you should come to Top of the World (158 Rideau, Ottawa) and take part in Wild in the Streets, an international event that started in New York City in 2004 on Go Skateboarding Day. Basically, it’s a mass skate from the skateshop all the way to McNabb Skatepark (total distance, about 3km). I think there’s going to be a BBQ and some other stuff at McNabb.

When I’m not taking photos, editing photos or planning stuff with clients, I’m probably skateboarding (or riding my bike, I guess). In fact, I just spent the last four Sundays teaching skateboard lessons at McNabb Skatepark to kids aged 5-12. Skateboarding and skateboard culture really shaped me as a kid. Basically, it is what introduced me to photography and art and video and a bunch of other really cool stuff that engulfs my life now.

Totally awesome and I just want to share that awesomeness all the time. Come on Sunday!

I’m especially excited for the matinée at the Meat Locker on Saturday. Some of Ottawa’s best newish bands are playing this marathon.

Dude is so active in so much.

Total bummer but in his place, Drastik and Illo repped hard and kept it going late on four turntables.  The party was only missing Mr. Tom Wrecks for a full cast. Soon, hopefully! Drastik should be out with a new mix fairly soon. Stay tuned.

Also, Victoire will soon be celebrating their troisième anniversaire which is young but when shops like this open and close more often than I get haircuts, major pats on the back go to les filles continuously making their business baby grow. Obviously something is working.

There will be a flyer advertising the anniversary soon (I think there will be a party and a mix CD?) but in the mean time, here are some photos I from the webstore. Don’t forget to check it out and also their blog.

Oh PS: One brand they carry is Species by the Thousands, makers of some fine clothing and interesting jewelry pieces. Out of Brooklyn, they’re one of the only non-Canadian lines at Victoire but the spot is well deserved. I’ve talked about bearded faces on shirts before but thanks to Victoire, I now own one. Behold, la pièce de résistance. Comfy shirt too. I think it’s made by Alternative Apparel using some organic cotton mystery blend.

It might be from Brooklyn but I find there is something oddly centennial-era Canada about the illustration. Farley Mowat meets the Ookpik or something… Non?

Here are two out takes from the last few weeks that I enjoyed. Arms cross’d.

I’m pretty happy with the end result, which was carefully pieced together by Garry Tutte. Huge shout outs go out to all the models and locations we used to create these. A special mention is owed to Models International Management for providing a significant amount of talent and being awesome to work with. Merci, merci! Also to my pal Hayden Menzies whose art happened to be on display the day we shot the gallery scene.

Suffice to say, a lot of people were involved in this project. Maybe even someone you know. So, give it a watch!

In other real estate/photo-related news, about a month ago, I covered Urbana, Dharma Developments’ annual charity fundraiser. This year, over $17,500 was raised for Options Bytown,  who offers affordable housing and counseling to “individuals who may have very low incomes, a history of homelessness or special needs that may relate to mental illness, HIV/AIDS or substance use.” Great cause. Photos from that are now online.

This week, editing + a shoot in Wakefield + si j’ai le temps, catching up on some French horror movies. C’est vrai.
