Democrats wanted to use Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert’s rally this past weekend to motivate young voters to participate in the midterm elections.

The crowd was mostly Dems. But it also contained some generally apathetic Comedy Central fans.

The three-hour rally consisted mainly of satire and comedy with humorous sketches and surprise musical guests including Kid Rock, Ozzy Osbourne, the O’Jays, Sheryl Crow, Tony Bennett and the former Cat Stevens, Yusuf Islam.

In one rare quasi-political stunt, Stewart gave a “Medal of Reasonableness” to Velma Hart, the now famous lady who told Obama that she was “exhausted” from having to defend him.

A host of left-leaning organizations were there in an apparent attempt to politicize the event.

Bill Maher, who years ago hosted the ABC late-night talk show “Politically Incorrect” and currently hosts HBO’s “Real Time,” has consistently demonstrated an antipathy for religion, religious expression and the Judeo Christian God.

Maher’s attitude is typically condescending. At the same time, he
tends to ignore the fact that the vast majority of faith-filled folks
aren’t the extremists he cites as his examples.

On a recent installment of his show, Maher took issue with something that Glenn Beck had shared with the public. Maher groused that Beck had said that before he got married his then-fiancé wanted to pick out a religion.  Read more…

CBS is developing two new comedies, including a project based off a Twitter feed produced by social-media master Ashton Kutcher.

Following on the successful launch of its Twitter-inspired comedy
“$#*! My Dad Says” last week, CBS has made a script deal for “Shh …
Don’t Tell Steve,” based on a Twitter feed by the same name.

Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski announced that she would
launch a write-in campaign to hold onto her seat after losing the
Republican primary. At the time she brought need for spelling in the write in process.

“You’ve got to learn how to spell my name, but that’s not as tough as
it sounds, and over the next 45 days we’ll be teaching you how to spell
it,” Murkowski said, drawing a smattering of laughter from the crowd of
supporters in Anchorage.

But her first ad misspelled the URL of her Web site.

The online ad that was posted on YouTube on Monday was originally
titled, “Vote Lisa M-U-R-K-O-W-S-K-I Public Service Announcement,” but
the URL that flashed on the bottom of the screen at the end of the ad
directed viewers to visit LisaMurkwski.com.

Morgan — says one of the people he’d like to talk with is President
Obama.

In an exclusive morning TV interview, Morgan wouldn’t tell “Early Show” special contributor Amanda Holden
who his first guest will be, but he did share a short list of people
he’d like to get in front of the cameras — and Mr. Obama’s on the list.

“I’d love to (interview) President Obama,” said Morgan. “I like what
he’s done for the reputation of America abroad, which I’m not sure many
Americans fully understand. But he has restored the reputation of
America, in my view, hugely.”

After being in office for 28 years, Barbara Boxer’s
world is likely going to get rocked, despite a Hollywood producer
railing against her opponent, Carly Fiorina.

Prognosticators are predicting that California’s current senator may be
unseated in the upcoming November elections by the former
Hewlett-Packard CEO Fiorina.

While folks are focused on the No. 1 issue, that being the economy, the
nearly bankrupt Golden State stands as a poster child for the ugly
consequences of unchecked Democratic spending.

The Boxer campaign is attempting to take a bite out of Fiorina’s
popularity by claiming that she laid off workers during her tenure at
HP. Instead the attacks are serving to underscore the fact that Fiorina
has not been a professional politician and has genuine experience in the
business world.

Another approach, which incidentally has been given an assist by
Hollywood producer Robert Greenwald, has been to characterize Fiorina’s
social views as out of the mainstream.

The GOP candidate is pro-life, pro-traditional marriage and pro-Second Amendment.

Interestingly, the attacks aren’t working. That’s because voters mainly
want to hear about the specific plans candidates have to fix the ailing
economy.

Paris the heiress may be headed back to the clink. Thought she had cleaned up her act but Paris was a passenger in a vehicle that was stopped by the Vegas police after cops sniffed the smell of pot in the air.

The driver was arrested for drug possession
and the police discovered that Paris was allegedly carrying some coke.

Just our luck! A throwback flick arrives this week, and it captures the
excitement of the 1980s action movies. It’s called “The Expendables,” a
film co-written and directed by Rocky himself, Sylvester Stallone.

Stallone has been able to gather together a group of action movie
veterans to join him in the tribute to the genre. The cast includes
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke and
Jet Li, as well as some additional action-flick leads like Jason
Statham, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, and Steve Austin.

Joni Mitchell has a couple of things in common with Bob Dylan.

Both are folk rock icons. Both, too, have stage names. Mitchell used to be known as Roberta Joan Anderson, while Dylan’s given name was Robert Zimmerman.

Interestingly, Joni was being interviewed by the Los Angeles Times when the name change comparison was brought up. She responded by labeling Dylan a “fake” and a “plagiarist.”

“Bob is not authentic at all,” Mitchell said. “He’s a plagiarist, and his name and voice are fake. Everything about Bob is a deception.”

She insists that she is nothing like the minstrel of Malibu. “We are like night and day, he and I,” Joni said.

She chalked up the difference between her original surname and the stage version to her marriage.

“As for my name, my parents wanted a boy, so they called me Robert John; when I came out a girl, they just added two letter ‘A’s to that. Then I married Chuck Mitchell; I wanted to keep my maiden name – I had a bit of a following as Joni Anderson – but he wouldn’t let me,” Mitchell said.
