i'm traveling in maine with my parents this week, and in a tourism rest stop i picked up a flyer for an exhibition at the bowdoin college museum of art, richard tuttle: a print retrospective. i'll admit i wasn't previously familiar with tuttle's work, but i could tell it was something that'd be up my alley and my parents were kind of enough to drive two hours out of the way to go view the exhibit. it didn't disappoint — the works in the exhibition (over 100 of them) were more impressive than anything you can find of his online, i'm afraid, so if you find yourself in maine i recommend going to see it! it runs until october 19th. —stacy

all taken in brooklyn in the late 1970's, these photos taken by a photographer named dinanda nooney are fascinating. the act of going into people's homes and taking photos seems like such a modern phenomenon, at least to me, and these photos are an unexpected reminder that it's been happening long before the selby and the popularity of design blogs. the ones above are some of my favorites, but there's over 500 of them!

if you haven't yet checked out the collection of vintage botanical prints i put up last week, head on over and check them out! most of them have sold out (i'm wishing i had gotten a lot more), like all these seaweed ones, but the ones left, especially those big, chart-like guys, are super amazing. the colors are so vibrant and vivid. the pink and cranesbill family is my favorite - i'm having a hard time not taking it down and keeping it for myself. the only thing stopping me is i have no place to put it! take a look!

i was asked to take some quick photos of my apartment today so i thought i'd share my favorites with you. it's been a work in progress in here ever since i moved the business out of my apartment and into a studio space (it's nice not living in a warehouse anymore), but things are finally coming together! feels like this kind of thing is never finished... it's kind of crazy how quickly my taste changes, too. there are so many old photos of this same apartment from about 3 years ago floating around the internet and it makes me cringe to look at what i did with the place back then... to be fair, i did live with a boy back then, and now have the place to myself, free to feminine-ify as much as i damn well please. (although i really try to not get too girly. it's not, is it?!)

fede saenz: coral series

fede dropped off these new pieces wednesday night, and if you ask me they're by far his best yet. part of his new "coral series", they feature a new, neon coral hue that he hasn't worked with before. i may or may not have keep one for myself that isn't pictured... (which i always feel a little conflicted and guilty about, but seriously, how can i not?) shop these new works here!

in other news, it's too hot to exist in brooklyn today. i'm a little under the weather and decided to stay indoors today and catch up on emails and place orders from home rather than go into the office. if you're waiting on an order to ship, try not to be too mad at me! have a great weekend y'all.

scandinavian style (& the story behind our name)

as you may know, i'm a bit obsessed with all things scandinavian - denmark in particular. i think my fascination started about 6 years ago or so after i watched the danish movie "after the wedding" (if you haven't seen it, you need to). first i fell in love with the language - i think it's so beautiful - and then just the general aesthetic and good taste of the danes. 2 years ago i got to visit copenhagen and it was everything i'd thought it would be - super designy, hip and amazing. i actually launched LEIF the day after i got back from that trip.

if you've ever wondered my thought process behind the name LEIF, it's a scandinavian name. i didn't choose it to mean anything; i wanted a name that didn't necessarily bring anything specific to mind, and i like that it's clean and simple like the scandinavian aesthetic. i'm actually really surprised/grateful that i'm still happy i chose the name that i did.

you know i love color, but if you isolate certain products from their colorful collections, you'll see that i do on occasion choose simple, monochromatic things that work well mixed with all that bright stuff. shop the products from this collection and some other scandinavian-inspired picks here!

there's a brand new artist in the shop! i'm excited to introduce work from western ireland-based artist lola donoghue. this one was a first for me - i actually discovered lola via a tip from a customer; a lovely lady named lauren wilson sent me a note to say she thought lola's work might be a good fit, and she was right. thanks lauren!

the collection of lola's work includes three prints ($80-$84), and two originals ($300-$325). both types are really good sizes; the prints are pretty large and the originals are on 24" x 24" stretched canvases. how great would those look in floater frames? (the canvas depth is 1.5"; i found some frames in this size on eBay). shop everything here; or click your favorite above!

i'm SO excited to introduce these brand new pieces to the shop, by australian artist belinda marshall. i was so sure i had to have her work that the time from the moment i discovered her work to when it was at my door was less than 2 weeks (coming from the furthest distance away in the world!). so, if you love these prints as much as i do, head on over and check them out! ($38—$55 depending on size).

p.s. my favorite source for finding frames of all sizes is amazon. for the "dusk" and "reflected" prints, i like this frame, and here it is in the right size for "with distance". since belinda's prints use australian A3 & A4 sizes, you would need to get mats made for these since unfortunately they don't make frames down to the .5 and .75 sizes.

so, i have a plan where if i post enough spring pictures, maybe spring will actually come. is this working for you, spring? i sure hope so.

i am concealing this BIG news in this little post, but you guys —in five days i am picking up the keys to my new OFFICE. (!!!!!!!!!!) i still don't quite believe it. i am having a hard time grasping the fact that i'll have a real apartment again, as opposed to an office/warehouse that happens to have a bed and a kitchen. this also means i will have TWO spaces to make look nice and bombard you with photos of. hooray! here's to spring and big steps!

aren't these photos so pretty? i love the way citrus looks in photos; it pretty much instantly styles itself.

yesterday i ate a sumo mandarin for the first time (so easy to peel and you can eat it without getting sticky juice everywhere!), and i've been adding lemon wedges to my ice water whenever i remember. it really is the best, most simple thing ever.

i'm still dreaming of the day i find an apartment with a good place for growing citrus trees, but you can't have it all, right?
