It will be 20 years tomorrow since the Berlin Wall was torn down amidst the protest of the east side for freedom. My morning newspaper is making a big deal of the history of the Berlin Wall, with ten pages of stories and illustrations from the day it was built, torn and how significant it is now for the people. Darn, I wasn’t born yet when the east side of Berlin started to build the wall in 1961. And by the time it was razed in 1989 I was already in college studying to be a teacher. But my mind was not completely focused on the event when the people shouted in jubilation because it was the same year when my beloved father died. A month and a few days after the fall of the wall, my father succumbed to death. Not because he was devastated or overjoyed about the event, I wouldn’t know he’d feel about it but he died due to prolonged illness.

I didn’t think of relating this event with my father but somehow, reminishing the fall of the wall has led to another event to be reminisced. I was trying to remember where was I and what did I do during that time when the year 1989 suddenly poked me and I exclaimed in the back of my mind, “Oh, my God!” and started to recall the days that were. How ironic how the fall of the Berlin Wall reminded me of my father when today is also Father’s Day here. Jesus Christ! How all these things just popped in my mind while writing.

Anyhow, back to the Berlin Wall, part of it is still standing in the city and tourists visiting there can imagine how thick and high the walls that used to divide the city of Berlin. Now it’s there to remind the history behind it.

The Berlin Wall in the background

Ruins of the Berlin Wall

That’s how the ruins of the wall looks now. My father could have seen me with these pics if he’d still be alive. But I’m really surprised how that year gave me a back-to-back memory of the past, both of the world and of my life. How about you? Where were you and what did you do when the Berlin Wall was fallen down on November 9, 1989?

Been hearing this song on the radio and once I asked hubby what the singer was singing about, was it “are we human or are dancer?” Hubby wasn’t listening to the song because he was busy in the kitchen, instead he just told me that I was crazy to ask the question. I ignored what he said and asked another question: “Are dancers not human?” Again he told me that I was crazy, lol! But guess who asked the same question as the one I asked first, hahaa! A few days ago, the song was played again and maybe this time he heard the song right while he was busy with his usual routine in the kitchen. ”Is he singing, are we human or are we dancer???” I told him that I asked the same question before and that he didn’t believe me. It prompted me to search for the lyrics of the song and the result showed that not only me and hubby were wondering about that special line in the chorus. He said that if it was “denser” then he would understand. But it’s not and here’s the explanation:

Hi Everyone! I’m your host for today so let’s get acquainted. Sit back and relax while I entertain you. First off, let me introduce myself. I’m Maricris and I’m from a city in the US : Charlotte, NC. It is fondly called the Queen City but pretty known as the center of the Banking industry until the economy went sour. Yet in spite of this mishap, Charlotte remained a great city to live in. Well, that is what I keep telling myself anyway so don’t take my word for it!

Now let me give you a tour. I should tell you, Fall is one of my favorite seasons due to it’s wonderful display of colors. I love going to work every day driving along tree-lined roads filled with colorful leaves such as this:

Then below is the big tree infront of my house which has all turned yellow. As of this writing, most of the leaves are already down the ground. I love it! Except for the mess it makes of course. My car can definitely attest to that. More so my poor yard!

Let’s hop on over to the main City center of uptown Charlotte and give you a little glimpse of what it’s like. I don’t go there a lot except when I need to. The “one way” roads and tight traffic is enough to drive anyone nuts. I guess if you live in the city, it always is the case! Do you love football? Well, I do a bit and our state team is the Panthers which sadly is doing really awful this year. Yeah, imagine all the fans wanting to squish our quarterback! But we’re hopeful nonetheless.

So, going back to Fall, I bet you have the same wonderful display of colors in your side of the world. I wish I can see them. Well, I’m sure I can if you visit me one of these days and show me the way to your world. How does that sound? Well, I should not take the rest of your time now. I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my world. I will leave you with this picture, it’s one of my favorites. This is a view from the window in my office at work.

And Thank you to the graciousness of our lady of the house for letting me take over her blog today and engage you with my ravings. Like I said, feel free to come visit me sometime. I would like to get to know you more. Or better yet, you’re more than welcome to invite me over to host your blog and give you a break some time. So with this I say, Happy Fall everyone!!!

What is really wrong with these planes hanging on poles. Looked like the aviators had missed the runway and landed on poles. They must have jumped out of the plane. I saw these when hubby and I drove to Linköping on the southeast. They look like mere roadside embellishment and if I was the one driving that day, I’d probably have skidded the car to a stop. It’s not a normal view to see planes on poles by the road, is it? While most of the time I see wind turbines when we’re driving on the south, the opposite direction has a different view to offer to passers-by. Once, I saw a car being lifted too by poles but it’s not unusual because it’s used to display the kind of cars being sold in an automobile shop.

Ready to fly?

I’ve been pulling your leg up there. The city of Linköping wants to assert that SAAB’s warplanes manufacture is there, thus, the planes on poles. It’s a way of showing that they can make those planes fly, and they believe they can.

Amazing Blog Award

Many thanks to Life Ramblings for giving me this award. Her blog is truly amazing, too. The photos from her travel and daily life experiences make her blog interesting and you can’t just drop by without leaving a comment. She participates in photo blogging sites like Wordless Wednesday, Photo Hunter, etc.

I would like to pass this award to some amazing blogs to:

Diabetis – he blogs about his being a diabetic patient and how he deals with it everyday. I follow his blog because I know I’d learn something from his experiences. Hubby once thought he was diabetic so Diabetis’ blog might help us with this problem.

S. Pradeep Kumar - his blog focuses on tech news, blogging tips and tutorials. He has written guest articles to many tech blogs. I’m glad to have a future A-blogger like him who leaves comment on this site from time to time. I am proud and grateful that he recognized me as one of those female commenters on his blog.

Shanker Bakshi - his blog gives information on how to make money online. I have known Shanker since the first time I started blogging and it’s amazing how his journey to blogging changes for the better. He had met and interviewed some A-list bloggers and shared relevant topics on his blog.

Willie - he shares his expertise in photography. I really admire his amazing photographs, be it a personal portrait, plants or architecture. His blog is indeed a photo blog which I recommend if you want to hone your photography skills.

Many thanks to Amy of Earnest Parenting for imparting me this award. Her blog is one lovely blog, too. A teacher by profession, Amy used to teach at the middle school level. Her blog is about the parenting journey – the success and failures and funny stories about parenting.

I would like to give this award to the following lovely mother-bloggers:

Amor - has a son whom she loves to blog about. She designs blog themes on her spare time, in fact, she made this blog’s theme for me. Amor and I have been virtual friends for four or five years now.

Honney - has also a son and another baby on the way. She shares her travel experiences and daily rants on her blog, though like me, she could not update her blog regularly.

Maricris - is a mother to her precious daughter. A creative blogger, she creates and designs stuffs like jewelries, bags and other accessories. She shares his thoughts, views, discoveries and journey on his blog.
