You, dear reader, are about to meet a fabulous artist and wielder of metals- Zachary Pryor. Browsing through his website and etsy store is like visiting a gallery, a metal-smith and a vintage boutique all at once.

Lonely in the woods of northern Maine with miles between him & the nearest neighbors – Zachary Pryor found that trees & his own creativity were his two best friends. He focused on his painting career for his teen and young adult years and soon turned this work into “wearable art” during his first stint in New York. These surreal comedic pop art pieces that deal with the lightness and darkness inside us all are featured prominently on his etsy site, http://www.zacharypryor.etsy.com.
Much later he stumbled upon his jewelry making prowess quite accidentally, but has since found that it is his true calling. Zachary watched a metal mining documentary in the early stages of his jewelry making career, so now most of what he makes is “up-cycled” as mining new metals is terrible for the environment. He collects pieces from estate sales, flea markets and antique shops from across the country so many of his pieces have a history, a story. If they don’t he makes one up calling upon his colorful past. These pieces and his stories can be seen on his copious site.

The Story behind “Moose at Lower Landing”

Lower Landing was the name of my maternal grandparent’s plot of land
in Sheridan, situated on the banks of the Aroostook River…You’ll see
that name again in some of my other pieces. We had no running water,
plumbing or electricity at Lower Landing (this is were I spent the
bulk of my childhood) Anyway, on one of my grandmother’s trips to the
outhouse she encountered a moose. He was very curious but his huge
antler rack wouldn’t allow him to get to her. She waited on the toilet
until he finally got bored and lost interest. And MY Most Memorable
Moose Moment (m.m.m.m.m.) was when I was picking lupines (my favorite
flower) for my mother along the railroad tracks between Ashland and
Sheridan, Maine. I heard loud moaning and rustling and when I turned
around a huge bull moose was waking from a morning nap and standing
just feet from me. I froze, knowing full well that this moose could
easily trample me. I stared in his eyes for a few minutes before he
simply snorted and trotted away from me. insane. and awesome.
This piece called to mind those childhood moose stories for me as it has a mini school
classroom ruler and a moose coin among the charms adoring it’s many chains.
It also has a Canadian nickel (I grew up less than an hour
from the New Brunswick border) It also has vintage copper chains,
silver plated chains, a sunstone cabochon and other vintage copper trinkets.
It hangs quite long and is a true statement piece.

and the story behind She-Ra
hand painted canvas wrist cuff with original image of She-Ra lookingmuch cooler than you ever remember her.Cuff is approx 1 1/2 inches wide, with 2 snaps for closure…each cuff has 2 settings, to be worn snug and loose and each one is made to order, so just tell me the size of your wrist when ordering…Most cuffs are made with snaps at 6 1/2″ and at 8″…just to be safe.

She Ra aka princess of power adora is hand painted on an old comic
background. My grandfather Harry Spillan used to work for Mattel and
he would bring home each of the master of the universe toys for me. I
always wanted to branch out into the She-RA world of toys but alas,
they were for girls. I was allowed to have Bow one day (strange as
he’s the gayest toy of all), but no She-Ra dolls. Then one Christmas
morning I awoke to find every She-ra doll under the Christmas tree. My
parents really outdid themselves. of course I shaved all of their

I don’t exactly hunt for vintage dresses with fruit splashed across them, even if they might match my little corner of the internets…. But when I ran across this vintage 80′s dress covered in all kinds of fruit I didn’t argue with the Universe. I scooped it right up. Fruit is refreshing on a warm day, and so was this little black dress. Something new (and thriftily priced) always makes me feel a bit better. Here’s to lemonade and lemon dresses, friends! What little surprising find has happened in your world lately?

There’s nothing like a nice long weekend filled with shopping, swimming pools, and relaxed dinners out to signal the start of summer. The hubs and I started to wonder where the Little Lemondrop should swim this summer, so we researched a local country club. Let’s just say if we had the extra money to spend on the dues it required we might just build our own swimming pool. So while we ponder our pool-less plight we’ll settle for the next best thing. The poor girl’s vacation friend, a plastic wading pool. Considering I was wearing a thrifted dress and a vintage necklace (tres tacky) this weekend my membership application may have been denied anyway. So, plastic pool at Chez Lemondrop it is for now. And guess what? No one complained at all. Hope your weekend was filled with friends, sunscreen and rest.

Those poor ladies of the 1960′s. Imagine not having a choice on whether or not you are dressed as some sort of confection everyday… if that’s all that the local dress shop had. Of course you might have garish hippie clothes to choose from- and maybe if you were lucky enough a wild Pucci. But small town girls most likely all blended in with cupcakes and Easter baskets. I think I like my outfits with more color on most days, but I can be sweet today. Keeps the husband guessing. Hope you have something sweet in your day today, friends!

When the weather warms up and it feels a bit like summer I want to eat sherbet in just about every flavor. That may have been why I chose to wear this jacket and shoe combination… it reminds me of the colors of a favorite summer treat. It’s already so warm here I can only wear the jacket early, late, or in the air conditioning. I have more little green jackets now than black ones. What summery treat is most tempting you right now?

When did you start creating your lovely resin accessories? Last year.. as a way to make my pregnancy go by faster by keeping busy…I was anxious to meet my baby.

I have Mr. Lemondrop to thank for this lovely backdrop of growing corn. He was driving by a field and decided to bring the family back to see the waving stalks. I found a pretty spiderweb while walking in totally inappropriate heels. It’s the little things that make your day; nature, being with your family, and polka dots. I wore this authentic 1980′s dress to an 80′s themed day at work and no one thought I had dressed up. They were all wearing Madonna cut up sweatshirts and neon. Sigh. So misunderstood. Hope your wardrobe choices receive better recognition.

Flowers… in a field. How original.

Is there anywhere more appropriate to wear flowers than a field? So what if the flowers are about 50 years old and the field is a bit barren? Al the more reason to spruce that field up. I love this vintage dress design. It’s very comfortable, but still feels a little dressier than the average day dress because of the belt and cut. And as with all vintage it’s not likely to be something I will see on anyone else! Sometimes that’s a good thing and sometimes…

This is the second Mother’s Day for us at Chez Lemondrop, and we are excited to see the changes it has brought us. The Littlest Lemondrop can walk everywhere (whether we want him to or not as you can see below). And he has lots to say. His favorite words are Dog and Ball, and BOO! I only look blue…

I am staring fixedly away from the camera in these pictures because a) I always feel goofy smiling in outfit posts and b) the sun is bright and it makes me sneeze. Though I am wearing all blue I really like the shape and feel of this comfy dress and it makes me feel green inside. To me, this is a great modern interpretation of the classic secretary dress. Easy, professional, and of a fabric that can hold its own. And pockets! YAY, pockets in a dress.

And guess what, friends? Target has several of these easy breezy dresses to choose from for Spring. How’s that for an easy work day pick? How obvious is it that I don’t want a lot of trouble in the morning? Are you a secretary dress fan?
