Lenape TV Students Earn National Recognition in STN Competition

Lenape High School’s Television Broadcasting program earned national recognition in two categories in a national competition run by Student Television Network. The STN Nationals are presented annually by Student Television Network in 12 categories. The awards are presented in recognition of excellence in scholastic broadcast television and film. They honor the special skills and unique talents of broadcasting and film students from across the nation.

Lenape’s news show, Tribal News, which airs three episodes each year on LDTV, features school news reports produced by students in Lenape’s Television Broadcasting Technology II classes. The opening title sequence, produced by seniors Jack Watson and Maxwell Bass, won 1st place in the “Show Open” category.

Senior Shannon Kenny and Junior Alexa Forgione earned a 2nd place award in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy category for a short film titled “Spider Venom”, which they produced earlier this year in their Television Broadcasting Technology III class. The assignment was to create a dream sequence.
Lenape High School has been an affiliate of Student Television Network since the 2013-2014 school year, but this is the first year they have competed in the STN Nationals.

Student Television Network is an international association of high school and middle school broadcasting, film and media programs. Since 1999, STN has provided support, curriculum and community to teachers and students in broadcast journalism, film and media programs. Currently, Student Television Network works with over 400 schools all year long to support teachers and their students in broadcast journalism, film and multimedia.

Lenape Students Win 2 Awards at Ocean County Library Film Festival

Lenape High School students earned awards at the 10th Annual Ocean County Library Student Film Festival. The statewide event showcased the best high school filmmakers in New Jersey. The event took place at the Toms River branch of the Ocean County Library system on April 23 and featured a red carpet, awards and refreshments.

Seniors Jack Watson and Maxwell Bass produced a news package about Lenape’s mock caucus event that was held earlier this year. The story won 1st place in the School Coverage category.

Additionally, Junior Alexa Forgione tied for 1st place in the documentary category for a film titled “Love to the Rescue” about local animal rescue organization Joe Joe’s Place. The film was produced for the documentary unit in Alexa’s Television Broadcasting Technology III class.

Entries for the film festival were received from 24 high schools throughout New Jersey. Other categories included animation, commercial, experimental, music video, public service announcement and more.

Lenape Students Accepted To Ocean County Library Student Film Festival

Three Lenape High School students have been accepted into the 10th Ocean County Library Student Film Festival. Their films will be shown at the event, which will be held on April 23 in Mancini Hall at the Toms River Branch of the Ocean County Library.

This regional film festival is exclusively for New Jersey high school students and is sponsored by the Kiwanis Clubs of Ocean County, Toms River Rotary Club, the Ocean County Cultural and Heritage Commission, and the Ocean County Library. For more on the film festival, CLICK HERE.

Students submitted entries to various categories. Their works were produced either as part of the Television Broadcasting Technology III curriculum or as an extra project with the Lenape Television club. The students and films accepted into the film festival are:

Lenape Students Earn Honors at Artists Alike Film Festival

Lenape High School Television Broadcasting Technology students earned honors at the 2^nd Annual Artists Alike Festival on Friday, March 18, 2016 at Absegami High School.

Lenape Senior Scott Buck and Juniors Rachel Fox, Matthew Derengowski and Alexa Forgione won 1^st Runner Up recognition for their public service announcement “Connect, Respect, Protect” in the PSA category.

Senior Shannon Kenny and Junior Alexa Forgione won 1^st Runner Up recognition in the Suspense Film category for their short film, “Spider Venom”

Additionally, Scott Buck won a prestigious senior filmmaker scholarship, which he was nominated for by his TV Broadcasting Technology teacher, Mr. Peyton Ebbeson.

Local production company, Artists Alike Studios Students hosted this 2^nd annual festival featuring high school films from Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Monmouth and Ocean Counties will have the chance to showcase their film making talents to the public.

The festival will featured student films in the categories of PSA, Commercials, Short Film Narrative, Comedy, Movie Trailer, Drama, Suspense, and Experimental. Producers, writers, media consultants and other industry professionals with countless years of prominent experience in film and media judged the students’ work. The winners of each category were announced during the Red Carpet event on held on March 18^th. Artists Alike Studios also awarded various scholarships to the student filmmakers, to help them as they pursue their goals in media upon graduation, which Lenape Senior Scott Buck received.

Artists Alike Studios, LLC, is a local production company founded in April of 2014 by Kristen Dirato. The team’s documentary Artist Alike: The Path to Our Purpose, won “The Pick of the Flick” Audience Choice Award at last year’s Garden State Film Festival. The objective of this company is to send positive and powerful messages through media and art. Creative development, independent films, video production, music composition and special events are just a few of the services that the company offers. Artists Alike Studios has worked closely with the Garden State Film Festival, assisting with the festival and pursuing projects in youth development. The company features a young and talented staff eager to tell inspirational stories and use media as an art form.

The film festival has received the attention of many local businesses and organizations that support the mission of Artists Alike Studios. Executive Abstract Title Agency, Brookdale Community College, local radio station AC 102.7, Calvi Electric Company, the Schultz-Hill Foundation and LEH Soap are just a few of the festivals many proud sponsors.

Seven Lenape High School students have been accepted into the 2nd Annual Artists Alike Film Festival. Their films will be shown at the event, which will be held on March 18 at Absegami High School.

This is a regional film festival that gives South Jersey high school students an opportunity to showcase their works to the community and bring focus to the media programs at local area high schools in Atlantic, Burlington, Cape May, Monmouth and Ocean counties.

Each film is judged by industry professionals before being screened for the audience. In addition to trophies, the winners of each category receive automatic placement into the Garden State Film Festival.

Students submitted entries to various categories. Their works were produced either as part of the Television Broadcasting Technology III curriculum or as an extra project with the Lenape Television club. The students and films accepted into the film festival are:
