They were selected by the 3 judges - Mark Nicosia, Travis Monsod and Funk Avy - based on their performances during the 6-Day Workshop held last March 11, 12, 13, 18, 19 & 20 at Looper Beat Academy.

The 10 Semi-Finalists will have a bar tour on April 1, 2, 8, 9, 15 and 16 to test their mixing skills and will be judged with the following criteria:

Technical Mixing Ability 60%
Originality 20%
Over-all Performance 10%
Tune Selection 10%

This will comprise 60 percent of the total scores. 40 percent will be Audience Quotient.

Out of these 10 aspiring Djs, 5 will be chosen to rock Boracay on April 29, 2011 at Paraiso Bar & Grill (formerly Paradiso Bar & Grill) Station 2.

The GSM Blue Mix Master is the biggest DJ competition for up and coming DJs in the country. The grand champion will win P25,000, a complete DJ set, Looper Beat Academy scholarship & management and will be mentored by DJ Mark Nicosia, DJ Travis Monsod and DJ Funk Avy.

1. The competition is open to all Filipinos*. Male & Female. 18 to 25 years old.

*Filipino students enrolled in Metro Manila colleges/universities. Filipino out-of-school youth residing in Metro Manila

2. Applicants must NOT have a club or mobile residency and NO affiliation with a club promoter, music or DJ agencies, or any other entity that could hinder performance and promotional duties.

3. Entry forms can be downloaded from the GSM Blue Mix Master section of www.stratmindsevents.com starting on January 25, 2011.

4. Applicants must submit a 20-minute demo mix on CD together with a completed entry form with signature, photograph of the applicant, and proof of purchase*. Entries should be mailed** to:

16. Prizes are not exchangeable for cash.

The moment it came out on the news, Carlos Celdran displayed his disappointment on his twitter/FB account.

Prior to this public outcry on the new slogan, Carlos created the #helpDOT hashtag on twitter to inspire DOT in re-branding the tourism industry. Team Manila created copyright-free posters and uploaded it on twitter. You can view some of the posters here.

What's wrong with Campaign Slogan and Logo?

The campaign slogan is in Tagalog. Don't get me wrong, I love our native language. But i don't think, it's an effective language to promote our country. Even if there's a direct translation and pronunciation guide, it will still not work. The slogan should be catchy and self-explanatory. WOW Philippines is effective because WOW is a universal expression.

James Cordova of Asian Correspondent wrote " If the government is targeting foreign tourists for this new campaign, why on erath would it use Tagalog? And if they say the target market is domestic - Why, Filipinos can't understand English?" AGREE!!!!

The Fiesta font is horrible. Reminds me of an island souvenir shirt. Sorry but it looks like the work of an (public) elementary student.

I still like WOW PHILIPPINES. More than the Usual campaign. Or if they find WOW Philippines outdated already then just use MORE THAN THE USUAL.

DOT reportedly awarded the project to Campaigns & Grey for 100 Million Pesos. My company can do the slogan and logo in less than 1 million.

What's wrong with the domain/website?

The domain is almost identical with another website - an online dating and marriage site for "beautiful filipinas". DOT has already taken the new DOT website - beautifulpilipinas - after some sites pointed out the existence of the online dating site.

DOT is now again using the old WOW Philippines website with this Message from Sec. Alberto Lim:

What's wrong with the launch of the campaign?

Based on the photos posted on the net by one of the travel bloggers invited during the event, I can say that it doesn't reflect the promise of the "Pilipinas Kay Ganda" slogan. I did not see anything extra-ordinary or to put it bluntly "walang akong nakitang maganda" in how they present the campaign slogan.

Let's take a look at some of the launch photos:

The slogan/logo was revealed using tarpaulin and "cut out" of the logo. Hello!!!! We already have LED screens in the country and the way it was revealed was just plain boring.

After the reveal, a group sang "Kay Ganda ng ating Pilipinas" to the tune of "Kay Ganda ng ating Pilipinas". Wow! Whoever proposed this idea must be stuck in the 80s. That explains the font used in the logo.

The artwork and font on the powerpoint presentation used in explaining the slogan is again boring. It lacks creativity at all.

They presented a music video in 3D. Again. Wow! What's the point of showing it in 3D?

They're spending too much on something that doesn't reflect the promise of the campaign. New technology doesn't equate to beauty.

We have a lot of events company in the Philippines. And these events company will be very much willing to bid for this project.

According to Adobo Magazine, "DOT is set to roll out the final version of the new Brand Philippines by February 2011".

Whoever is doing the campaign should read this.

Also consider using well-known Pinoys such as Manny Pacquiao, Lea Salonga, Charice Pempengco, Monique Lhuillier, our international beauty queens (Gloria Diaz, Margie Moran, Ruffa Guttierez, Lara Precious Guigaman, Venus Raj), etc in promoting the country.

My Suggestions:

- Launch a nationwide slogan contest.

- Get Team Manila to design the logo

- Get a foreign ad agency to help the local agency in developing the campaign to get an outsider point of view. The 100-million-peso budget will not go to waste.

Let's make this campaign a project for the whole nation and not just for a chosen few.

One (Fil-Am) celebrity on twitter almost stole the limelight from Pacquiao last Sunday. His name is Steven R. McQueen, popularly known as Jeremy Gilbert of The Vampire Diaries series.

He's one of the many (Hollywood) celebs who cheered for Pacquiao and kept everyone updated on twitter during the fight. I don't know how it all started but he mentioned in one of his tweets that he's "paternal grandmother is Filipino-born actress Neile Adams".

Then later on announced that he' got Filipino blood.

The "i have Filipino blood" tweet made him a trending topic last November 14. In 2 hours he acquired 8000 followers.

So who is Neile Adams?

According to wikipedia: Ruby Neilam Salvador "Neile" Adams (born July 10, 1932) is a Filipino-American actress, singer and dancer who made more than twenty appearances in films and television series between 1952 and 1991.

Adams was born in Manila, in the Philippines. Her mother, Carmen Salvador, was of German, Spanish and meztizo descent, and her father was of English, Chinese and Filipino ancestry. Her mother, a dancer, was the sister of basketball player and actor Lou Salvador, Sr. She was first married (1957 - 1972) to actor Steve McQueen, who insisted that she not work. My Shining Shimmering Christmas Tree

Decorating a Christmas tree is the most fun activity for Christmas... not to mention the most expensive too. During the past few years, people are really spending so much for their Christmas tree; some even hire professionals to do it for them. I have nothing against it but decorating a Christmas tree is a personal thing.

When I was a kid, I am always in awe of Rustan's Christmas trees. They have the most beautiful Christmas trees in town.

Last year, I bought a black slim Christmas tree. My theme was gold rush. Just perfect for the newly-painted wall.

I wanted to recycle my gold trimmings for this year, then I realized that 2010 has been a very good year so I decided to FROST my Christmas tree.

My moodboard:

Sparkling is the key word for the accents.

It took us 3 days to find the perfect pieces. We found 90% of the accents in Rustan's and the rest from National Book Store and Designer Blooms. A bit expensive than last year.

The finished product (almost). I'm still missing a topper (but I already have it, bought it this morning from Rustan's ATC)

I super love the snowflakes, the crystal bead spray and that ornate egg-shaped decor (well actually love everything on that tree). Photos of the topper will be posted tonight.

I've always been a big fan of Japanese cuisine. I like the simplicity of every dish - from presentation to taste. Japanese food for me is like going back to basics. It's like a reset button for your taste buds and your stomach after abusing it with all sorts of spices.

While on a working weekend in ATC (Alabang Town Center), I discovered OMAKASE. A cute Japanese restaurant located in one of ATCs alleys.

Omakase (お任せ) is a Japanese phrase that measn "It's up to you" (from Japanese 任す, entrust ).
According to wikipedia "The expression i used at sushi restaurants to leave the selection to the chef. It differes from ordering ala carte. The chef will generally present a series of plates, beginning with the lightest fare and proceeding to the heaviest and richest dishes. The phrase is not exclusive to service of raw fish with rice, and can incorporate grilling and simmering as well. Customers ordering omakase style expect the chef to be innovative and surprising in the selection of dishes, and the meal can be likened to an artistic performance by the chef. Ordering omakase can be a gamble; however, the customer typically receives the highest quality fish the restaurant currently has in stock at a price cheaper than if it was ordered à la carte. From the restaurant's perspective, a large number of customers ordering omakase can help in planning for food costs."

For appetizer, we ordered Sashimi Mix and extra order of Uni Sashimi. Good for 2 to 3 pax. The salmon is so fresh you can hear growling bears behind you.

Uni was a favorite when I was kid. Living in a small town in Masbate, beach just at the back of the house... summer afternoons as spent searching for sea urchins; eating it while watching the sun set on the horizon. (I am starting to miss our house. I gotta plan a vacation soon.)

I ordered Seafood Teppan and Miggs ordered some Ebi Tempura bowl.

I like the sauce, not your usual Teppanyaki sweet sauce. It's a vinegar-based sauce. For me it helps remove the "lansa" specially in tuna.

Coffee Jelly with Vanilla Ice Cream for dessert.

Nothing really special on this one, I still like Cow King's coffee jelly.
Other things I like about Omakase:

If you are just staying at home this weekend, stay away from these movies.

10. Shake, Rattle & Roll 1 (1984)

The first of the series of horror movies from Regal Films. Each series has three stories has three episodes with three different directors and writers.

The Pridyider (a refrigerator brand) episode gave me sleeplessness nights. For weeks I would not dare open the refrigerator at night for fear of seeing dismembered body parts inside.

9. Halimaw (1986)

The film is popularly know from its second segment title, Halimaw sa Banga.

I still get goosebumps whenever I see "malalaking banga" in big houses. The "halimaw sa banga" looks like the entity in The Grudge.

8. Let The Right One In (2008)

Based on the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist (who also wrote the screenplay), the film tells the story of a bullied 12-year-old boy who develops a friendship with a vampire child in Blackeberg, a suburb of Stockholm, in the early 1980s.

The "less implies more" approach is what makes this movie so scary.

7. A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

A Nightmare on Elm Street premiered in the US on a limited theatrical release on November 9, 1984, opening in 165 cinemas across the country. The film performed moderately well commercially with little advertising — relying mostly on commercial advertisements and word-of-mouth. Grossing USD$1,271,000 during its opening weekend, the film was considered an instant commercial success.

Kruger's "ampalaya" face is just wrong. Whoever designed it should be punished.

6. Poltergeist (1982)

The movies revolve around the members of Freeling family, who are stalked and terrorized by a group of ancient ghosts that are attracted to the youngest daughter, Carol Anne.

This movie kept me from watching TV at night for fear of falling sleep and waking up with the sight and sound of the TV static.

5. Alien (1979)

The film's memorable tag line, "In space, no one can hear you scream", promised a far different experience than the popcorn entertainment of Star Wars or the kinder, gentler saga of Close Encounters of the Third Kind. In fact, Alien was as much horror as it was science fiction.

By showing only close-up shots of the alien all through out the movie (except for that long shot showing its silhouette), it gives the audience room to use their imagination and build up their fear for the presence of the creature.

4. The Ring (1998)

Ring is about a cursed, disturbing videotape that, when watched, will cause the viewer to die a week after. The film is the highest grossing horror film in Japan at 12 billion yen ($137.7 million) and is also considered the most frightening horror film in Japan according to a survey.

Sadako coming out of the TV set is insane. TV sales in Japan must have reached an all time low after this movies was shown.

3. The Sixth Sense (1999)

The film tells the story of Cole Sear, a troubled, isolated boy who is able to see and talk to the dead, and an equally troubled child psychologist who tries to help him. The film established Shyamalan as a writer and director, and introduced the cinema public to his signatures, most notably his affinity for twist endings.

This movie succeeded in scarying people by being quieter and more subtle compared to other horror movies. You realize after the movie that anywhere you go, possibly including your house, your school, your office - someone has met a bad end, leaving things unfinished and unsaid.

2. The Shining (1980)

The film is based on the novel of the same name, by Stephen King, about a writer with a wife and young son who accepts the job of off-season caretaker at an isolated hotel. The son, who possesses psychic abilities, is able to see things in the future or past, such as the ghosts in the hotel. Soon after moving in, and after a paralyzing winter storm that leaves the family snowbound, the father becomes influenced by the supernatural presence in the haunted hotel; he descends into madness and attempts to kill his wife and son.

According to BBC News, The Shining has been named the perfect scary film according to a new mathematical formula. The formula combines elements of suspense, realism and gore, plus shock value, to measure how scary a film is.

It's what you dont see in the film that makes it scary.

The film became the most profitable horror film of all time and one of the highest earning movies in general, grossing $401,400,000 worldwide (and a further $112,053,066 for the Director's Cut re-release in 2000), and at the time of release briefly became the highest-grossing film of all time, until being surpassed one year later by Steven Spielberg's Jaws.

Do I still need to explain why this film still haunts me until very day?

Skins USA, YAY or NAY?

I am a big fan of SKINS UK... and I say big NAY!

The US version is the basically the UK version without the heavy accent.

Gap ditches New Logo

Having stirred up a giant shitstorm over the past week with a much-hated new logo, Gap is right back where it started—announcing Monday night that it's ditching the new mark and returning to the old one. Gap North America president Marka Hansen says in a statement: "Ultimately, we've learned just how much energy there is around our brand. All roads were leading us back to the blue box, so we've made the decision not to use the new logo on gap.com any further. At Gap brand, our customers have always come first. We've been listening to and watching all of the comments this past week. We heard them say over and over again they are passionate about our blue box logo, and they want it back. So we've made the decision to do just that—we will bring it back across all channels." The language there is almost too perfect. Perhaps this about-face—and not the now-ditched crowdsourcing idea—is what Gap had planned from the beginning. You know—get people to talk about you for a week, admit your "mistake" (in essence, underestimating how much people love you), and have the last laugh by appearing to listen to your customers and then giving them their precious logo back—a logo they never even knew they loved.
