Last week, more than 225 recent college graduates began their new jobs at Lenovo's Beijing office. During the orientation meeting, they had an unexpected visitor: Lenovo Chairman and CEO Yang Yuanqing. (Or, as many call him, "YY.") He spoke off the cuff to the group, sharing his thoughts on the company, the future and the opportunity before them. During the same period, Lenovo grew from just an agent for foreign brands operating only in China to the global leader in the PC market.

Nowadays kids look at me and call me “Uncle” but Lenovo does not get old. Know why? Because we always have fresh blood like you joining us!

Today we live in the internet age. To us it means big changes in our lifestyle. But to you, it’s no change at all because the internet has always been part of your life. That’s why Lenovo needs you--you can help us innovate and accelerate Lenovo’s transformation.

Well it has been nearly two months since Lenovo announced its new line of P Series ThinkStation workstations at this year’s SIGGRAPH conference in Vancouver, and the overwhelming response from the industry has been...WOW! Well, the Lenovo Workstation team shows no signs of slowing down as they steam roll ahead to SEG 2014.

For those of you who may not know much about SEG, I’ll help by giving you some background on the event. Since 1930, the Society of Exploration Geophysics has brought together the very best in commercial scientific practices, academic research, and new technology to help drive innovation and efficiencies in oil & gas exploration and near surface geosciences. Each year the annual event draws nearly 35,000 commercial and academic professionals, from over 350 leading companies, government agencies, and educational and research institutions to participate in the extensive technical program, conference and technology exhibit.

As technology and industry leaders, we at Lenovo are very proud to be part of this year’s exhibition and, as you might expect, we have a TON of great exciting technologies to show off to show goers and attendees.

So what exactly does Lenovo have planned for SEG, you might ask? The answers is of course, lots, and lots, and wait for it…LOTS, of ThinkStation P series. That’s right, attendees at the event will actually get an opportunity to get hands on with the entire P Series line...

Guest blog by Tin-Lup Wong, Distinguished Engineer and Executive Director, Strategic Technology and Innovation Center (STIC), PC Product Group.

Today, we announced the new YOGA 3 Pro, taking another step in advancing the 360® hinge design we pioneered in 2012 with the original YOGA convertible PC. The new six watchband hinge helps make the laptop 17 percent thinner and 14 percent lighter than its predecessor and also lets you lay it completely flat at 180 degrees.

Making a strong and durable – yet extremely flexible – hinge is something we know well. In previous YOGA models, we designed a dual-hinge system made of zinc alloy. So, you might wonder, why make a new hinge?

YOGA users and consumers told us they prioritize thin and light features, so we challenged ourselves to continue to shave millimeters off the design – and to do that, we created the new watchband hinge. Constructed from steel and aluminum, the new hinge provides the same degree of flexibility and flatness of a metallic watchband due to its six flexion points. For the full specs, you can read the press release here, and see the full functionality in action in this video.

Dual processors, 24 DIMM slots, 12 drive bays and up to three PCIe slots (plus two AnyFabric slots) in a rack form factor. I know. It sounds like a 2U rack server, right? With the Lenovo ThinkServer RD550 though, you get the performance and capacity of a 2U system in a 1U form factor. This means you can tackle more strenuous workloads while saving precious rack space.

The ThinkServer RD550 is the latest two-socket 1U general-purpose server with high performance and I/O expandability for space-constrained environments. It’s designed with up to two of the latest Intel Xeon E5-2600 v3 processors and super-fast DDR4 memory with speeds of up to 2133 MT/s.

With the RD550, you can choose between two chassis: 12 front 2.5-inch drive bays or four front 3.5-inch drive bays with two additional rear 2.5-inch drive bays. Designed to be flexible and modular, the RD550 comes with Lenovo AnyRAID technology for advanced RAID protection and up to two Lenovo AnyFabric slots giving you enormous bandwidth potential. In fact, the RD550 can house up to eight 10 Gb Ethernet ports — without taking up any of the available PCIe slots. If you include network adapters in the available slots, that’s a lot of bandwidth in a slim 1U server. There’s even an option for four 10 Gb Ethernet ports with two 16 Gb Fibre Channel ports at the same time — without using any of the PCIe slots — an industry first. That...

Everyone remembers their first day of school jitters, right?

You have your outfit all picked out the night before – maybe you even bought a new pair of shoes.

You wake up incredibly early because you have tossed and turned all night over the excitement of what the new school year would bring. No? Just me?

Even if last week did not bring about the same type of excitement for you as it did me, I think everyone can agree that it truly feels like the start of something new.

Thursday, October 2 and the days leading up to last week remind me of how I felt the first day of school or starting my first “real” job. I remember vividly starting high school and being so nervous that I would be sitting by myself in the cafeteria or that I would not recognize at least one familiar face in a class. Regardless of if you are a scared 14-year-old girl sitting in a history class or a 30+ year-old woman walking the halls of a familiar company, you still want to make sure you have a friend to sit with in the cafeteria.

While walking into new Lenovo Building 8 last week, I was brought back to the time when the unknown was a scary place. But this time around, the unknown brought excitement and a huge smile as I walked past so many unfamiliar...

I was lucky enough today to catch Lenovo Executive Vice President, Enterprise Business Group, Gerry Smith, and Senior Vice President Enterprise Systems, Adalio Sanchez, to discuss the Lenovo and System x integration. Here’s what they had to say.

Q: Gerry, this is an exciting day for Lenovo and specifically the Enterprise Business Group. Can you expand on that?

A: You’re absolutely right. Today marks one of the most significant days at Lenovo. And for many of us, history is repeating itself. In 2005, Lenovo acquired IBM’s PC division and last year, we reached number one in PCs globally. Now, we’re leading the market transformation in what we call our “Plus” strategy and moving towards our goal of becoming the biggest computer maker in the world — whether the device is a laptop, a smartphone, a tablet or a server.

The acquisition of the IBM x86 server business presents an enormous strategic opportunity. The acquisition will immediately catapult Lenovo to number three in worldwide revenue market share and we will become the leading x86 server vendor in China. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event and I am so proud to be a part of it.

Q: Adalio, what do you see as the greatest opportunities for the combined businesses?

A: First, let me say that the strengths of our two companies are complementary. True to our System x heritage, we will...
