Winter in the Cotswolds continues. Sigh.

Lensfunk's got an exhibition coming up in the spring so I'm currently trying to gather enough stuff to put in it. Not sure whether winter shots cut it in a spring exhibit? answers on Facebook please. And, of course, the age old B&W v colour debate. Personally I prefer a duotone, but the delicate colour in the two below had me thinking.

Aston Villa Dive Headlong Into Obscurity.

For those into football, it was an evening for headline makers. Unless you support the English Premiership side just beaten - over two games - by a team in the bottom tier of English professional football. Made worse by snow and the prospect of a 130 mile round trip on a Tuesday evening, it was only ever going to end one way. Congratulations to Bradford City who become the first ever team from the bottom tier to reach a Wembley final. Read the match report here. And read the rattle being thrown firmly out of the pram here.

SO when I finally got home at midnight, I wandered down to the church, featured in the desperately low-brow screen version of Chesterton's Father Brown. See you later.

The Eyes Have It

One of the boy and one of those faces.. Simple Photoshopping of the face to exaggerate slightly the f1.8 lens. 2 x soft boxes left and right (the one on the left with a slightly lower-powered bulb to give the effect of slight shadow. Eyes sharpened a bit and colour in the rest of the picture desaturated by about 20%.

Photographing a Black Dog.

Shooting black dogs is notoriously difficult. If you can get one to sit still long enough, shoot with a slightly diffused natural light and you can then play with the little splashes of light picked up on the reflections and contours in Photoshop to your heart's content. Later in the month I'll post in more detail how to get these shots without any studio lighting. You will need a camera a dog and a window.

Angel of The North

We set off at 2am on Saturday to drive 250 miles to Newcastle for the Great North Run. To cut a long story short it's a complete ball-ache if you're not running yourself, but it's great for those doing it and raises loads of money for charity so, you know, I don't want to appear churlish. Anyway, arriving just after 6 there were four hours to kill before the race, so I paid this a visit. Antony Gormley's awesome Angel of The North.

A friend baked us some stupendous cakes for various birthday type things and so I shot her dog in return (not like that). A German Short-haired Pointer, Morgan is about 1 and a half, I think, and a bit mental.

It occurred to me while looking through last night's shots of family (we were testing the new studio lights, it's not a Wednesday night theme) that if you can get yourself a Pantone chart, they make for great backgrounds, especially with a short depth of field. have a look, see. It was also a way of me gently re-immersing myself in blogging again, which I have singularly failed to be good at for at least a year.

I got a new tripod and I went to take some photographs of the nearest church, St James in Chipping Campden. the same on you saw a few weeks ago. More coming soon I hope when I have more than a few minutes while people file out from practising Handel's whatever-it-was. I wanted to put Messiah but that would have been a complete guess.
