No. The tuning of a guitar is EAdgbe…the tuning of a mando (standard) is GDAE the chord forms are completely different…BUT…mando chords are pretty easy to pick up with many 1 and 2 note fingerings.

Chords do not get their names from how you hold your fingers. They get their names from the notes you are playing.

An F minor chord has the notes F Ab and C in it. Any combination of F Ab and C notes is an F minor chord. There are lots of F Ab and C notes all over the mandolin, so obviously there is going to be several ways to play an F minor chord.

The same goes for every other chord.

Upright Bass Pickup Homemade?

i play the upright bass for a rockabilly/blues band. for a pickup ive found a way to mount a dynamic mic on the body that points at the f-hole. it does the job, but not very good. i got a bunch of musical electronics lying around and i know theres gotta be a way to make an actual pickup from what i have, without spending any extra money. i have mics (dynamic, condenser and a PZM) as well as electric guitar pickups. are there any maguyvers out there that know how to cook something up? thanks

Herschel Lawhorn answers:

Most bass players I know just wrap a microphone (like a Shure SM-57) in a small towel and wedge under the tailpiece, against the belly of the instrument. It works to amplify the sound and gives a warm, natural acoustic sound.

I can’t offer any MacGuyver-ish solutions, as I’m not at all electronically inclined but it seems to me you don’t want to cut into the top of the bass to install a pickup, nor do you want anything like a solid-body electric bass guitar pickup because it won’t give you that acoustic upright sound that’s so important for rockabilly music. A 6-string electric guitar pickup wouldn’t work either, IMO, as i don’t think it would adequately pick up sounds in the bass range, no?

If I were you I would experiment with the mics I already have — dynamic, condenser and PZM — and with mic placement. Maybe there’s a better place to mount the mic on the instrument, or a way to boost the signal from the mic with a pre-amp? Are you using a dedicated bass amp or running your mic signal directly into the mixing board? These are options to explore to see what gives you the best sound.

Ok, ill help you out, lets seee

first of all, i started with basics, then i sang while randomly hitting chords,

literally XD
but then i realized that i was hitting actual notes, making songs isent as easy as people make it seem or sound. Its actually quite fun but hard. You have to make sure all of it is in place, timing is correct, and lyrics that go with it. Ok well the songs i started with are, your guardian angel by red jumpsuit. Its extremely easy, but very very catchy to ze ear XD, i learned it within 20 mins entirely without mistakes, so yeah, its going to say you need to tune into Cminor, but you can tune down to D its basically the same fuggin thing.

Another songs thats easy to practice for this would be, ziggys stardust , i thinks thats the name look it up on google , it prepairs your fingures for the hell theyll be in xD, trust me i know T^T

ive been playing since i was 5 years old and i just recently atempted acoustic and im quite good at it, and its still pretty fuggin hard. X_X
but good luck if you need more help i can make you videos of easy songs to play,

Herschel Lawhorn answers:

Hey There!
Well to begin with you want to be learning to play small riffs, or the basic chords to a song so you can play along with it.

For example when I began playing I learnt to read tab and then searched all the basic guitar chords (A,B,C,D,E,F,G & Am,Bm,Cm,Dm,Em,Fm,Gm) “m means minor”. Once I had learnt these I began playing small songs such as the “james bond” riff.. Or something like (Smoke on the water – deep purple)

All of these tabs can be easily found on the following websites:
www.ultimate-guitar.com
www.guitaretab.com/
www.guitarzone.com/
www.911tabs.com/

PS you may also want to watch some video lessons on YouTube.com.

Hope this helps yah!
Daniel,

Daniel,

I believe that there’s no difference between celtic a and country fiddle, in fact these are violins like the others, they just play it in a different way…

The guitar has usually 6 strings and it plays the melodic part.
A bass has usually 4 strings(usually!) and it plays both the melodic and the rhythmic part.
For what concerns the dobro read the 2nd link..
