*life* ...say see you later

Wade and I stood in front of the house to see Jenn off. It was quiet and we were all a little sleepy. Having said everything to each other at least twice the day before there weren't a lot of words. Hugs all around twice or so and throw in some misty eyes to boot. It will be a while before I see her in the flesh again, and thats a sad thing.

She didn't have time to say goodbye to everyone she wanted to say goodbye to. We finished re-re-packing the truck slightly before eleven yesterday. She authorized me to say goodbye for her, but I'd rather tell you that Jenn said "See you later."

All over but the drivin' and cryin'

It was a little blurry, but thats cause we were teary...

*nerdy* Episode III talk.

Don't worry! No spoilers here, unless you've been living under a rock since...forever.

When you think about the Star Wars empire as a collective tribute to George Lucas' love of the Saturday serial cartoon then it kind of straightens itself out a bit. Melodrama, action, adventure, and err freaky aliens are all part of the big yummy cheese ball. So, no matter how many nuts you roll it in (or how many nuts roll in it...) it is still just a big cheese ball. Revenge of the Sith is the prettiest installment of the cheesball to date. I think that it is the best of the three movies we call the 'prequels'.

I say its the best of the three based on the fact that it had more of the things I wanted to see from the prequels, and all in one place. Somehow though the duel between Anakin and Obi-Wan was much more...anguished and important when I watched it over and over in my head. The fall and the fight just seemed...pale when it made it to the screen. Very pretty and pale.

Ben Kenobi is STILL the hardest working Jedi in ANY galaxy.

Just in from the "if a word meant how it sounded" department. Trampoline = fuel for hookers.

Embrace the paradox,
>Bryan

*life* Episode III

The greatest story ever told is the one that we tell ourselves over and over.

No spoilers here, but I will say that the movie was simply stunning. When I recover I'll try and relate some more of my thoughts. You have until then to go and see the movie. At best I'll put those thoughts behind a cut to protect those of you too lazy to get out during the opening weekend to see it.

Ups and downs are a part of the implied circle that life goes around. There are endings ahead just as there are beginnings. We go forward and never back. Going back is not possible. Who goes forward with us can tell us things we might not otherwise perceive.

Faites de beaux reves.
Make fine dreams.
>B

From our Internet Aura Expert @:
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/davehypno/aurawht.html

GREENS Green is a growth colour. It brings to mind new beginnings, fresh growth and also health and happiness. Green is a reflection of all things natural and is an excellent colour to remind us of natures cycles. New beginnings and the constant cycle of growth and decay. Green is a healing colour because it represents regeneration and regrowth. (however green is a bad colour to use with cancer as it stimulates growth!). In the aura green is positive as it represents a new beginning.

BLUES Blue is a colour where the hues can be very important. The lightest colours represent stimulation and mental intuitiveness, the darkest colours can represent melancholia. But all blues represent the informational processes and the brain. Dark blues are good for calming and soothing and are extremely effective in karma reduction. But should not be over used. Students often have light blues represented within there auras. It represents the in pouring of energy and the mental activity that they are undergoing.

Indigo/Violet This colour represents the intuitive and spiritual combination of blue and purple. Violet being present in the aura represents a great deal of protection is present. Spiritual activity is also represented in hues within this spectrum.

Reds All warning signs in life are shown as red, and colour within the aura is no different. It is a colour of activity and represents animal elements within us, all things physical and materialistic thinking. Red can aid with circulation and heat, but is usually an indication of negative aspects. Reds can indicate selfishness, hate or temper. Others can represent lust and passion. An over exposure to read makes us uncomfortable.

Oranges This is another activity colour. It is a mixture of reds (physical) and yellows (mental). It is one of the most commonly represented colours within auras. It is the colour of balance and harmony. Orange is represented in the aura of people recovering from illness. Orange signifies the worst is past and healing is occurring. It will usually give way to greens. Orange represents wakefulness and alertness so is necessary for us to maintain ourselves actively.

Yellows Yellow is representative of intellect. Each shade represents a type of functioning or ability. Light = high thought, ruddy = timidity. Yellow represented within the aura shows conscious mental activity represented within the area that the colour shows itself.

Gold Gold as a colour does not refer to the ochre's of the yellow spectrum. It represents the reflective colour. It is rare to find it within the aura but is often represented within rays and beams. It supplies protection and strength and represents reflective thought. It can represent antiseptic following an injury.

Silver Silver represents a speeding up of processing of the other colours around it. It is often seen in guide energies. It represents speedy usage of energy and directness of use.

Browns Again, not a common colour in auras but can be in beams and rays. It can be seen as a muddying effect in other colours and represents earth. It can be a grounder and combat many of the excess energies of the other colours. It can also represent good abilities in natural areas. They often represent a negative influence in the aura. They can represent materialism, negativity and selfishness.

Grey Another colour that usually represents negativity in an aura. Narrow focus is represented. It shows conventionalism and shows a lack of imagination. These people can be cold and hard. It can be seen to represent depression. It often accompanies red flecks or black areas.

Black Black is simply the absence of colour - it represents negativity and problems. It can often appear as a hole in an aura. They are usually indicative of depression
White White light represents a mixture of all colours together in balance. It is the spiritual colour and show complete balance. We take from white what ever we need. It is very protective. It represents health and good being.

There seems to be no device in seperating the list of LJ's you "subscribe" to into catagories. I want a distinction between the Feeds, Communities, and the ActualPeople's Live Journals. For instance if you look at someone's user info, you can see this informaion divided up, but if click their friends page, you'd have to trawl through endless lists of posts from the groups and feeds just to see the entries of the people they know/read. A small thing? Yes, perhaps. Still, it is the reason I don't become a member of any groups or feeds. I like to click my friends link and see all the updates at one go. *shrug*

What do you think?
>B

So I've been trawling through This site because its a repository for commentary on the life of my former social group from about the year 2000 on. I find in the tumult of the webmaster and chief poster's content this line:

dr lucky...

...is still the bomb.

--ben

Posted by ben at June 24, 2002 12:03 PM

That line right there reminds me that at one point, and at every point that I am what I am. That is to say one day I'm the bomb, and the next day I'm the bomber. In the litteral. So much was going on back then. So much action, adventure, drama, learning, and teaching. So much so that I couldn't do anything but slide backwards. I allowed myself to be driven to distraction by all the lights, colors, and sounds comming from all around me. I was rooted in a lovely kind of chaos. The problem was that I was convinced that this sideshow was what was going to make me better. That was wrong. The only thing that can make me better is me. After all this time, and all the strange (read ugly, ugly) bullshit. I still learn lessons from Ben. Lessons, I think he wanted me to learn then.

He was saying "See this trick? Well it works because when I move this hand you don't look at this hand. That's how that's always worked."

I was saying "Wow! You did a trick! Can I learn how you did that trick? Why can't I learn this trick? Where did your other hand go?"

*sigh*

The biggest way in wich I failed Ben was in the fact that I rarely wanted to let him be human. I wanted him to be the example, the hope, the plan of what I could be. Thusly, when he faltered, his two biggest critics were himself followed closely by myself. I couldn't let him be just some guy. Not even when he needed that from me. Its one of the worst things I've ever not done for someone. If you lived in my head then you'd know that the previous statement is a big deal. Is it strange then that a life outside of that level of stimulus gives me the chance to look back and see this? Making mistakes and learning from them at my addmittedly reduced pace now, I see my old errors. I should let them stand as a reminder of how not to be.

The victor writes the history. I'll tell you who's won when the book is published.
>B

*games* Battlefield QERTH

Steve says that this idea might be too cogent for QERTH. I fail to understand the usefullness of a game world that exists purely to mock D&D and all other games that run contrary to HEX's idea that an RPG should be fun and easy to play. I wonder if I should even work on a system for play/movement/battle etc.

It is an age of Myth and Legend. The races of QERTH: Faeiry, Human, Dwarf, Knome, and Orq are grown mature. Their kingdoms and cultures have grown prosperous and rich. Their learning, magic, and goods have flowed freely for five centuries among the known lands. Darkness has been driven back to the borderlands and the wardens of light, the Fey are convinced that a golden age is prepared to dawn.

Content to leave the mortal races to their petty squabbling and their trading the Fey begin their preparations to depart the mortal realm of QERTH for the Undying Lands of Elysium, the prize promised to them by Gawd for guarding the mortal races and rasing them out of their savagery into light and learning. Having prepared a thousand years for their departure, the Fey begin preparing a mass ritual to open a magical portal to Elysium.

One great sorcerer among the Fey, Meridan, has turned his face away from Gawd, and from the just cause his race has been tasked with. He has hardened the hearts of a chosen few who do not wish to depart QERTH, but have chosen secretly to remain behind and appoint themselves the supreme and rightfull rulers of the mortal races and their realms.

Meridan and his followers have long waited the time their plans would come to fruition. Their betrayal causes the portal to Elysium to open in to the outer darkness of Chaos. Much to everyone's suprise, lying in wait in the outer dark are beings which not even the Faerie were aware of. Monsters of twisted visage, and maddening intellect. These outer dwellers pour through the Gate and begin to destroy all they touch.

The Fey, the greatest warriors, philosophers, and magicians of QERTH are pitched headlong into a battle for their very survival and for the continuance of all inhabitants of QERTH. In the chaos Meridan and his followers begin carving out their empire. Sending emmisaries to the mortal races with a proclimation of lordship, and a demand of fealty.

The Council of Races dissolves in bedlam as the ambassadors of every land fall into confusion and anger. The old alliances break, and every race begins to prepare for the battles to come.

*Add the press of politics, old grudges, the apparant turning of the benevolent Faeiry into despotic monsters, THEN dwellers from beyond the outer darkness and you get the chaos that you could throw some stats into and have people pick factions etc.. and go to a map and fight it out!!!*

What do you think?
>B

*dreams* TAKE THAT!!!

A dream of such intensity that I woke myself up. Must be reading too much Conan.

I was a rookie cop, but we were not dealing with JUST cop subject matter. More like M-Force, we were dealing with some strange stuff. Anyway...just the piece I remember: My partner (played by a lady from my job) and I had cornerd a rat-like creature with a human-like face. Its bite was noxious (somehow this was known) and could poision, or drive mad, or transmute you into a rat-thing with a human face. I'm not sure which...all three? Somehow I got split from my partner, and the thing was attacking her. I could hear the confrontation, but could not find my way to it. When I did arrive, so ferocious was my anger/desperation to protect my partner that I BEAT THE S*IT OUT OF THAT FREAKY CREATURE WITH MY FISTS. Balled up and held together as though I'd been holding a bat, or a sword I drove my hands over and over into the short thing. Screaming the whole time. Screaming like I was going to be nominated for an oscar. YOU LIKE THAT YOU FREAK? HOW ABOUT THIS?

It was so violent, and intense I woke up.
>B

*quickie* the modern fantasy diet

No pictures of cacheing yet...but soon I swear.

While rooting around on Amazon I found this quote. It has an attiude that I like. What it says about fantasy stories is interesting, but I take it the author has never really read George R. R. Martin.

The Modern Fantasy Diet
Fantasy fiction has become a bloated, pretensious caricature of its own possibilities.

It's like looking at Marlon Brando as he is today and remembering what he used to be: he used to be slim, man. He used to be dangerous. He used to mean something.

Heroic fantasy used to be slim, once. Oh man but it used to be lean and muscular, like the heroes and swordsmen it celebrated. It used to be dangerous. It used to tell us stories about ourselves that never appeared in the pages of respectable literary journals (with their stories of divorcees and martinis and quiet, stately dysfunction) but were nevertheless more truly a reflection of the times in which we lived, and the yearnings that impelled us.

No longer: heroic fantasy has grown fat. Bloated. We're not talking a few extra pound around the waist, here: we're talking serious glandular problems, shopping at special stores for the larger individual. We're talking about Robert Jordan and George R. R. Martin and David Eddings, with their three or five or ten book series, each volume in the series containing seven or eight or nine hundred pages of plodding prose, dull exposition, unresolved plot threads and attempts to conjure up a sense of wonder so badly executed as to signal the final, lingering demise of the genre. If we can't get your daily requirement of wonder from fantasy then we might as well go back to reading those tales of quiet despair (or is it quiet tales of despair? despairing tales of quietness?) for our fictional sustenance.

Here is the entirety of that page:
Back soon with pictures...I swear.
>B

After some serious monkey-shines involving replacing the borrowed wireless router, the pad is once again connected to the Internet. When I find my camera cable I'll show you all what I was up to yesterday as Jenn and I went out for some cacheing. >B

Sunup at Pisgha

The sun sneaking up on a frosty bluegrass landscape.

PPC

Historic Pisgah Presbyterian Church.

Church yard.

The boneyard here is old, and very cold in this picture. The sun hadn't quite gotten to the headstones yet.

Lens flare

Playing with shooting directly at the sunrise.

Entrance

I love the rock walls in Woodford County. I couldn't shoot it without my shadow falling on it.

Hoping for a flare

Seeing what's different light-wise from the flare shot.

The creek

Further down the hill from the church the creek is steaming as the sun starts to peek in.

Wiesenberger Mill

This mill has been around after a fashion since Daniel Boone owned the land along the Elkhorn Creek.

Falls

Wiesenberger's falls were rolling. I think the camera had problems with the mist.

Millpond

More steam in the near-zero weather.

Pond & Falls

How lovely it was this morning.

Millstones

Here we see the rockwall bolstered by old millstones.

Milstone

Since I was little, I've loved this incorporation of the old grind stone.

Sexy new haircut?

After a long night at work, I try to smile, but the sunrise turns it to a squint.
