Anything that’s a big deal usually requires securing a license for it. The same applies to getting married. You must obtain a license if you wish to tie the knot and make the union absolutely legit. A valid marriage license is necessary to make any marital union official.

The state normally issues this little vital piece of documentation, although sometimes the exact town you’ll get hitched in gives it out too. The states exercise authority over different licensing requirements. It’s therefore best to clear things with the pertinent local marriage bureau in your area.

Pointers In Obtaining A Marriage License

Obtaining a marriage license is not that hard, but for those who are completely in the dark about the process, the tips below might be able to help. Take a look.

•	Find out about the local requirements by getting in touch with the county clerk in the county or state where you plan to marry. Non-residents need to go to the town where they’ll be married and secure a license there. Most states only give out marriage licenses to couples age 18 and above.

•	Inquire about the number of witnesses needed for the ceremony. Most states require a minimum of two.

•	Bring all relevant paperwork when you come out to obtain a marriage license – drive’r's license, birth certificate, divorce decree and passport. Have a photo ID handy too.

•	Find out if blood tests or other physical examinatiosns are necessary.

•	The fees will be between $25 and $100 so be ready with the money. The license is typically valid for only two to three months (60 to 90 days). Couples intending to marry generally need to be there in person to pick up the license. The usual wait time before it’s okay to proceed with the marriage is from one to three days (24 to 72 hours), excluding Las Vegas, of course.

Obtaining a marriage license can be a bummer. Nevertheless, it’s a crucial part of making things legal with your beloved. Circle a date on your calendar and apply for a marriage license together with your fiance, and get everything straightened out before you actually say “I do.”

Back in the mid 2000′s, 04 or 05, I had the honor of planning wedding with a politician from DC and his fiancé. Why It Pays To Hire A Wedding Consultant

Weddings can be hell to deal with, especially if you’re working with limited funds, the details alone can be overwhelming. That’s why it is always best to hire a professional wedding consultant or planner whenever possible. Wedding consultants do most of the legwork. They know what it takes to stay on-budget, they surround themselves with professional vendors and lets face it, they know what the heck they’re doing.

Sadly, for most couples it’s the budget that dictates thees kinds of decisions and many see a wedding coordinator as a luxury, not a necessity and that can be a critical mistake . One of the best reasons for hiring a wedding planner is that he or she has the ability to navigate the market and point you to the vendors that fit your style and budget without having to go thru the research and interview process. They will then walk you through the planning process with little effort or stress and in a fraction of the time when compared to planning your wedding alone. Time is money and when time is built into the equation it makes the fees charged by the wedding planner more affordable and for many just that point alone justifies hiring a professional wedding consultation.

The job of planning a wedding from start to finish is what a wedding consultant is all about. In theory, yes, the couple can take over this role. However, it’s not the smartest move out there. You could be setting yourself up for an extremely painful fall.

For a lot of people, they bring in a wedding consultant just on the actual wedding day itself as a way to save money. Although this trick is a great cost cutter however, it’s not really the best idea. If you need one, I would do everything in my power to utilize there complete services. The challenge is to search for those that provide service on the big day as part of an affordable package.

Remember, you need to find reception halls, churches, hotels and other venues. You likewise need to look into caterers, photographers, cakes, bridal attire, Dj’s, florists and the list goes on and on and a good wedding consultant can handle all this with no problem.

One thing for sure is, if you decide to go it alone and coordinate the wedding yourself, it promises to be an exciting adventure and for those who opt against getting one, make sure all vendors you hire for that day are experienced wedding pros who can easily follow wedding adaptation routines without you having to direct them personally on D-day. Think about it. You can’t be saying “I do” and holding the hand of the vendors every second of your big day at the same time, right?

People thinking about planning their own wedding solo should immediately start participating in local wedding forums . It is a great place to start and it will help you decide whether you have what it takes to pull off a great wedding successfully.

Planning a wedding without outside help calls for some patience and communication. You need these two in making decisions and choices. Be sure to use a good planner to make the job easier they can even ve fond free on the net.

There are nothing but upsides to hiring professional wedding consultants or planners. People began to appreciate the value of wedding planners after the Jennifer Lopez movie “The Wedding Planner” came out. After the film’s release, many people who were on the fence about hiring wedding planners became believers even though it was just a movie.

Hiring wedding planners is basically a matter of personal preference as well as choice. If you are one of those couples who can handle planning your wedding single handedly with little trouble, super. However, if you find that the planning activities are getting to you and it’s just week one of preparations, you’re probably better off stopping right then and hiring a wedding planner’s services and leaving it up to them to deal with the issues.

Here’s the rundown and the things you should remember. Wedding planners know all about making wedding plans, that’s there job. The following are some of the many advantages of hiring a wedding consultant:

1. More savings – Most people say they don’t hire wedding planners because it’ll just be an unnecessary added expense. Actually, hiring one can be a money saver. Most wedding consultants have established contacts within the wedding businesses of venues, apparel, etc. The connections they have are more likely to get you in on discounts than if you did everything yourself.

2. You still call the shots – Couples still have the last word, not the wedding planners. A wedding planner will simply guide, offer suggestions and generally assist couples in decision making activities. The couple still has full control over wedding styles.

3. It’s a time saver – There’s a lot to do when planning weddings. The task is made even scarier if the people planning it are the participants themselves (read: groom and bride). The jitters and hectic nature of it all can make keeping an open mind impossible. To top it off, wedding planning isn’t completed overnight. It usually takes some 200 to 400 hours of brainstorming and planning. Hiring a wedding consultant eases your workload and frees up more time for other stuff.

4. Orderly planning – Weddings are usually more organized when there are wedding planners behind it. Most planners are very meticulous, scrutinizing every tiny wedding detail. This is their job after all so it’s no surprise that they know how things are done. Since wedding planners have timelines prepared that they stick with, delays and last-minute modifications are avoided, or at least minimized. Sometimes they even finish everything ahead of schedule.

5. Confidence booster – Wedding planners boost the confidence of the bride and groom, which is always a good thing. Wedding couples are often on edge, especially when they can’t find something needed for the wedding. This is where having a wedding planner helps. Since the wedding planner has everything covered, the groom and bride can rest easy knowing that their wedding is in able hands. Who could be more familiar with wedding ins and outs than a wedding planner?

More tips to consider when you wish to hire a wedding consultant are coming your way below.

• Pencil in appointments with two or more wedding consultants. Initial consults are usually offered for free. From here compare the pros and cons of each wedding consultant you visited and pick the one that best suits your needs.

• Inquire about payments. Consultants can have hourly rates, or charge a flat fee or ask for a share of the wedding budget. Payment could also come from organizations that wedding consultants work for – restaurants, DJ services or hotels.

• Request to see the professional organization membership certificate, tax identification number, business license or other documents that could confirm that the consultant is legit. This is how you avoid getting stuck with a faker.

• Ask the wedding consultant for pictures of other weddings he or she has assisted or coordinated. You need proof that they are indeed the real deal.

• Inquire into the consultant’s experience, previous work, special talents and educational background.

• Always ink written contracts that state the payment amount for services required, specific arrangements if the wedding falls through, and the date.

• Obtain referrals from newly married relatives and friends, or look into other wedding service outfits. Get in touch with professional bridal consultants or wedding associations and ask if they could refer you to local wedding companies.

• Inform the consultant about your preferred wedding style and the budget you have. He or she will let you know what portion of the dream wedding she can realize on that particular budget.

• Furnish the consultant with a list containing needed services so they can provide you with an estimate.

• Look at reference letters. Consultants will of course, just show the positives. However, beware of those who can’t show you even one letter.

• Pose questions like: who does the consultant require to attend the rehearsals? How does he or she deal with kids in weddings? True professionals can answer such queries without breaking a sweat.

• Choose wedding consultants you get along with. The relationship should be based on trust and respect.

It makes sense to hire a wedding consultant, especially when you can afford it. This way, you won’t be the one hounded by various florists, caterers and bands you visited. Wedding vendors can also bombard you with a ton of technical questions that you’re clueless about. A wedding planner can help you field such tough interrogation.

A wedding planner or consultant can serve as your go-between, shielding you from the needless headache. Do everybody in your wedding party a favor and contact a wedding consultant pronto. You’d be surprised just how doable your dream nuptials are with a wedding planner by your side. Wedding consultants can put a smile on the worried and stressed out faces of the bride and groom so go get one today.

     .
A couple times a week I am in the habit of surfing the net and reading a wedding blog or two. There are some good reads out there by true professionals but for every good there are a dozen bad and by bad I don’t mean poorly written.
     .
Since the economy went south there has been an influx of people writing about cheap weddings and how to save a bundle. Oh sure they have lots of advice but most the time it lacks well, reality.
     .
Take for instance “Wedding Savings Revealed” or anyone of the other titles used in rewrite.
     .
These professionals claim that paper flower centerpieces are an equal option to real floral arrangements and maybe they are right, that is when the paper flowers are crafted by a professional. Of course there will always be a rare exception to the norm where a bride or someone related retains the creative skills to pull off such a task however, if you could, would you even have the time? OK maybe you do, then if you took the time did you really save money? Was the final product truly equal? Or are you just setting yourself up for disappointment and a lifetime of thinking you should have saved everything and simply gone to the courthouse and got hitched. Just because you can’t afford or don’t want to spend the +$20K average wedding tab these days does not mean that spending $5,000.00 on regret is worth it.
     .
I think it is fair to say that yes while paper flowers from a professional, when handled and displayed properly will suffice. However, I can assure you it will not happen based on advice they offered below:
     .
” Quality paper flowers will look very elegant when done correctly. You can create die cut flowers from paper for a wonderful, crafty effect. Or you can purchase a pattern for hand-cutting and assemble the flowers, or purchase them already assembled. The key is the paper you use: common construction paper is going to look cheap, while more elegant, unique papers will look (you got it!) elegant and unique.”
     .
Or how about this wonderful thought on how to save money on food:
     .
“The Picnic Reception: This type of reception is perfect for spring, summer or fall weddings – depending on where you live. Getting everyone outdoors and serving picnic fare is a fun way to change things up. It also makes for a much more relaxed atmosphere.”
     .
Fun and relaxed for who? Now again I am not knocking the idea if that is what you had in mind but as I move past the 5000 wedding point in my life I can say; I have never met a bride who’s heart was set on a traditional wedding and could switch gears and be satisfied with a picnic in a true cost cutting “picnic” style. Not only that, I can tell you from a professional standpoint that if you do opt for “picnic” style and unless you mean “picnic” in every sense of the word, your expense will be equal or greater after attempting to turn a park into a mainstream venue.

Another thought is, would it be better to have your “brother Bruce” as a wedding photographer and spend money on hundreds of prints that you can’t bear to look at or world it be better to have a smaller package from a professional wedding photographer.
     .
Or another consideration that is again not emphasized enough is to simply cut down on the guest list.
     .
Don’t get me wrong there are some good ideas out floating around but none better than the single most important way to save on wedding day is to speak with your local wedding professionals. This thought is never driven home or completely over looked because then they wouldn’t have anything to write about. Let the local wedding professional’s point you towards discounts and when you shop, shop hard and in advance and when you negotiate, do it like you are negotiating the West Bank peace treaty.
.
There are many ways to get the ball rolling and it can be as simple as stopping in at a local venue and asking a few questions and getting some information on what vendors are doing what. They are pros and they know everything that is going on in their buildings.
     .
Everyone in our industry is well aware of the circumstances these days and most of us have been affected in one way or the other and as businesses and professionals you learn to adapt to the times. The last two years have changed our industry dramatically in many areas and everyone I know has introduced
cost saving programs or at least will offer good advice and point you in the right direction. I don’t know of anyone who has posted their pricing in neon with a sign that says “If you can’t afford us, don’t bother us”.
     .
Although, I have heard a few stories where the bride feels like that is what she was told during a meeting with a professional again there is an exception to every rule however, I am sure it was not there intention and if so, then you learned at least that they are not right for you.
     .
Pricing these days has become so complex and with so many considerations it is nearly impossible to quote our best price without all the details. Dates, times, guest counts don’t always cut it anymore even the location of your venue which can play a role in the vendors final price as we are drilling down into costs looking for ways to save might not be all we need to honestly quote our best price.
     .
Keep in mind we are all in the same boat and most can find common ground with their clients and remember these are businesses and there monthly overhead alone can be staggering. In the end it is everyone’s goal to provide you with a product or service within your budget and most can when the budget is at least reasonable and you won’t know until you ask. So contact your local wedding professional’s and get good advice that’s part of the job and we are happy assist.
     .
In closing give this some thought. If you can even consider the time to make paper flower centerpieces then you can certainly find the 15 to 30 minutes necessary to speak to a local wedding professional and get real information regarding your budgets. If you don’t, you will never really know what you can and cannot afford and you might not be as far of as you think.
     .
In the end, most of the time brides will save the money necessary to have the wedding they dreamed of however if nothing more, at least why you are sitting in the park munching on one of Uncle Fred ‘s famous burgers. You will find it a lot easier to swallow, knowing you at least tried.

       .
This is an area where there’s no better way to discuss this issue without telling you a story. I think you will find the read worth your while so bear with me and please continue on.
       .
Back in the mid 2000′s, 04 or 05, I had the honor of planning wedding with a politician from DC and his fiancé. He was a great guy and they we very much in love however, he made it clear from the get go that is involvement in the planning process was to be no more than sitting and reading sports magazines during our planning sessions.
       .
Now under most circumstance this might have been ok and up to them but not with this couple since the bride had confessed earlier to me that she considered his input vital, especially since his political future to some extent was of course involved. Also, he had jokingly made the comment that whatever she decided was fine and if not, she would certainly find out after the wedding when the local media expressed their opinions via live TV or the morning news paper and his colleagues weighed in there opinions.
       .
Of course I knew and even she knew he was joking but the comment was made and the seed of doubt was planted and insecurity was in full bloom. And although she might not have heard about it later the fact that she could very well make a blunder in front of his high powered family and friends was now out of the bag and left for the bride to wear like a 5ct cubic zirconia. In other words, it was simply killing her.
       .
Anyway, after a few meetings of watching the bride morph from a extremely secure individual to a withering questioning wreck to the point I wouldn’t have been surprised if she had begun to question her own name, I decide action was necessary. So I waited until our next session which was at Leu Garden’s and I forced his hand by adding some political overtones to the conversation regarding some of the rules in our local rental facilities and the “idiot politicians” that wrote them.
       .
This of course got his attention and lead to a well deserved tongue lashing which I was happy to endure since yes, I was of course lying however, he had taken the bait and before he could open his magazine back up I engaged him with the decisions we were making and from that moment on he was hooked and hooked good.
       .
By the time we got to our next meeting which was a complete china, linen and decorator’s session he was actively involved in selecting colors, textures and china patterns and his involvement was not only a riot but it put the bride to ease.
       .
Now my point here is not what to expect when marrying a politician. My point is that grooms are often not actively involved in the wedding planning process simply because he thinks he is not supposed to be and he is playing the macho, I am the groom when is bachelor party role and sometimes all they need is little push to get with the program.
       .
Also, and this I tell you based on working with thousands of couples over the years. When given a opportunity, grooms will in almost all cases not only actively participate but they are happy to do so.
       .
Now don’t stop l reading yet, I haven’t lost my mind don’t get me wrong. I am not suggesting that his input be taken too serious in most cases but what I am saying is that, it is to your benefit to have him involved in the decisions being made. Plus, you can give him his opinion if necessary which he will in no time accept it as his own.
       .
By having the groom put his stamp of approval on the decisions being made will not only make you both more comfortable when wedding day arrives but, you will have gained a partner who’s got your back through the planning process if something becomes controversial with other decision makers.
       .
If nothing more, the price of his facial expressions when stopping to chat at a table full of his sports buddies is always worth the effort when you credit the success of the wedding and how beautiful it turned out to the long hours spent by the groom pouring over swatches and table settings.
       .
Get them involved, I promise you they can take it and not only will it help to ease the wedding day jitters it very well may end up being some of the best wedding memories you have.

           .
He got down on one knee, took you by the hand and as he looked up he lost himself in your eyes, and with ring in hand he whispered, “Will you marry me?” You wept, you gasped, you chuckled, and in between deep breaths you said, “Yes, yes, yes!”
             .
Ok, so maybe it wasn’t exactly like that but that doesn’t change the fact that choosing your wedding venue is one of the most pertinent aspects of any wedding and should be treated accordingly. So, here are some suggestions that will help to make your wedding as memorable as the day you said yes!
             .
Like all, first impressions are vital because you will have just that, one of them. You should approach any venue with certain expectations, yet an open mind to allow for all possibilities. Embrace each potential venue for the energy and charisma it will provide for the wedding and all those involved. The venue should promote the view you have established for the wedding and enhance the elegant and elaborate ambiance of the setting. Try and consider each venue realistically for what it offers to you and your guests without settling for anything less than perfect.
             .
Allow yourself enough time to consider all possibilities and plan accordingly. Ideally, you should begin to search for a suitable venue at least a year in advance, therefore allowing all other components to be organized and orchestrated in a timely manner without creating any unwarranted or unnecessary anxiety and concern.
             .
When choosing a venue, consider the size of the wedding and how much space will be needed to accommodate the guests and all elements of the wedding. The more accurate of an estimation of guests will aid in procuring a suitable venue. Too small, the wedding could potentially lose the sense of affinity, and too large, the wedding could feel somewhat disconnected and uncomfortable.
             .
All components of a wedding need to be accounted for, especially details like parking. The selected venue should accommodate guests and their transportation comfortably and efficiently.
             .
Before selecting the venue of your preference, you should be well informed and aware of any and all restrictions or limitations that may be associated with the venue. Certain venues may have sound restrictions, time constraints, decoration limitations, and employment or service requirements,
so in order to avoid any conflicts, obtain all information on the venue and its resources and services in advance.
             .
To expedite and ease the coordination of the wedding, create a layout and construct a view, either written or well thought out, of all aspects that need to be accounted for and, ultimately, how they will coordinate with one another to create the wedding, your wedding, that will last in the
memories of you, your spouse, family, and friends for years and years to come. The day approaches when you will exchange vows and rings and a kiss that signifies the eternal bond of love between two hearts that become one, an intangible union that no words can accurately describe. It’s love.
Time to say, “I do.”
             .

A wedding should be an event that incites abundant and pleasant memories for all of those in attendance, shared memories of cheer, laughter, love, and joy. As bride and groom, it is essential to extend gratitude and appreciation towards the guests for gathering to celebrate the occasion. The importance lies within the thought of the wedding favor, not with the grandiosity or expense of such items. One proponent of such gifts, My Wedding Favors, concedes that “the little things – a favor, a gesture, a simple thought put into action – speak volumes in all the special occasions of your lives.” This company offers a cornucopia of products, ideas, and styles to appropriately suit any wedding and its guests.

My Wedding Favors was founded by Jennifer Nicholls and the company has seen much growing success and popularity, as it has been featured in Modern Bride and Brides magazines. Though their reputation speaks for itself, our first hand experience with this company exceeded our expectations of their products. The online catalog clearly displays the variety of wedding favors offered and the website itself is aesthetically pleasing and creative. My Wedding Favors merchandise is reasonably priced and appropriately fits well within the budget of any wedding.

Your intuition led you to this moment. From the instance you met him, you knew instinctually that you would spend the rest of your life with this man. And now, he sits downs before you on one knee and extends a ring. You fumble over the words, quite awkwardly, but he just continues to smile, and the syllables eventually find their way out, “Y-ye-yes!” Ahead of both you now, lies months and months of careful, considerate planning and organizing, with equal parts of elation and joy.

Excuse the metaphor, but a wedding is like that first science project fair in grade school. The teacher (groom) announces the project (proposal). Students (bride) begin to conjure up all sorts of elaborate and creative ideas to construct the most interesting and compelling science project (wedding). There is much excitement and anticipation at first, but a sense of impending stress and anxiety can set in. Bit by bit though, the vision of the project (wedding) becomes cohesive with all the elements working together. Eventually, the science fair arrives and the project is a complete success. Perhaps the metaphor was a bit far fetched, but I think you understand the point – planning a wedding should be a memorable, exciting experience free from unnecessary worry or concern. To help, try constructing a wedding timetable, like the one that follows, in order to organize all wedding components accordingly.

What we offer below is only a summary that will give you a good idea of what to do and when. It has provided much success in early stages the organization of the weddings’ of many others, but there aren’t any rules to wedding planning, so ultimately you as a couple must decide the best course of action. What follows is a summary list of tasks and activities that pertain to the wedding and the approximate time table necessary to efficiently organize it.

At the Time of the Engagement

• You’re engaged! Climb to the peak of the tallest mountaintop, the roof of the highest skyscraper, wave your arms wildly, jump up and down in ecstasy, dance in circles, and shout the good news to all the world, “We’re in love and we’re getting married!” Actually, on second thought, that’s a bit much and perhaps a tad too zealous and eager, so just start by relaying the good news to loved ones, both family and friends. They’ll appreciate it and embrace you with open arms and open hearts.

• Consider employing an organizer. After all, they are professionally trained to execute and expedite the wedding preparations, so their direction and guidance could greatly reduce any stress, worry, or concern.

• Smile and say cheese. Engagement photos are cherished and valued memories for a life time. They can make nice presents too for family and friends.

6 to 12 Months in Advance Before the Big Day

• Peruse the calendar and find a suitable wedding day that allows enough time for all the planning to be organized punctually, including venue, reception, etc.

• Plan to meet with the wedding officiate.

• Create a realistic budget for the wedding. Yes, perhaps it may not be the Royal Wedding in England, but it shouldn’t be handled too frugally either.

• Arrange a wedding guest list that includes all those connected to the couple and their family and friends.

• A wedding without photographs, flowers, music, and food would be, well, not much of a wedding at all, more of a Sunday church service. Anyways, search for those services that best suit the vision for your wedding, because they can potentially decide a wedding’s success.

• Santa Claus is coming early this year, so register for the bridal gifts so that your guests will have a general idea of what you would like.

• It’s time for the bride to go shopping (and yes, it could take a while). Don’t pick out just a dress, pick out your dress. Pick out the dress you always dreamed of walking down the aisle in when you were a little girl, lavishly and elegantly clothed in white, and don’t forget about any accessories that might add to it.

• Eeny meeny miny moe, pick a bridesmaid by her toe… Perhaps that’s not the best way to choose your bridesmaids, but nonetheless, select those women that mean the most to you and your wedding and schedule a date for ordering their dresses.

4 to 6 Months In Advance Before the Big Day

• Order the wedding invitations, thank you notes, and all other stationary necessary to both welcome and embrace all in attendance.

• Confirm your chosen photographer, florist, musician, and caterer and expand upon each and every detail that their service provides.

• Go get them you handsome devil. It’s time for the groom to pick out his wedding suit, attire, whatever it may be.

• Organize the honeymoon and make reservations. Bahamas, here we come!

• Verify that the bridal gown will be delivered appropriately and punctually.

• Get the groom on the move and start plan for the rehearsal dinner.

• Take a ride on the sweet side and pick out and order the wedding cake.

• For guests who will be traveling from out of town, arrange accommodations for them.

2 Months In Advance Before the Big Day

• This is simple take the lists above and review and finalize everything while adding:

• Make arrangements with your stylist to plan wedding hairstyle and make-up.

1 Month In Advance Before the Big Day

• Compose a list of songs for the band set that includes a variety of musical compositions to appease all guests and occasions.

• Buy some stamps, a lot of stamps, and mail the invitations.

• Ensure all catering and venue accommodations are settled and prepared.

• Double Check your wedding attire to ensure it is all on track..

• As a couple, attend wedding showers and celebrations.

2 Weeks Before the Wedding.

• It may not be the most exhilarating aspect of preparing a wedding, but it is essentially one of the most important factors – the legal aspect. Apply for the marriage license, make alterations to bank accounts, important documents, etc.

• Confirm that all attire for the wedding is accounted for.

• Pack your bags, because in a week you newly weds will be basking in the Caribbean sun or touring foreign European cities or scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef.

• Wrap all of the gifts and presents for the groom and guests.

• Review the wedding rehearsal. Practice makes perfect.

• -Remind all involved of the specific details of the wedding and contact those vendors one more time.

On Wedding Day

• Set your alarm. Tardiness is somewhat looked down upon at a wedding believe it or not. Make sure to eat breakfast, because too many nerves on an empty stomach could end poorly.

• Start the ritual of bring a bride for the day and get pampered, your hair, make-up, and nails.

• Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Hold it. Hold it. Exhale. Allow all concern and worry to dissipate and embrace the moment. Today is the first day of the rest of your lives, together. Now go get married!

Until Next Time,
