well i shot my first big outdoor festival on tuesday/wednesday of this week. it was fun. not my kind of music by a longshot but still, great experience

designed a few album covers recently. the first one, which has been on the backburned for a while was for my old band mates new band, well is ay new, they've been about for a while

two piccies of mine are in this months local music mag Alternative Ulster. which is nice.

mastodon belfast gig and winding stair interview. i was also invited to write a bit about a song that changed my outlook on music for a local newspaper's entertainment section called teenage kicks. i sound like a tube but sure :)

best band ever, worst sound at a gig ever. the lighting was close behind. these guys are playing to thousands in america and we stick them in a grotty little venue with a sound system that would be insufficient in a car.

still... sitting at the feet of my favourite band, feeling the air from the kickdrum in my face, cant really complain can i?

JD Set battle of the bands!

i was the photographer officialé for the jack daniels battle of the bands in belfast on wednesday night. it was a cracking night with some really great bands.

kodo drummers of japan

for chrimbo, my girlfriend bought tickets for us to go see kodo, the japanese drummers. they played last night in the waterfront, belfast and they were absolutely incredible. my brain is still rattling around inside my skull. seriously, those guys must be deaf, the volume that came from those drums was ridiculous. we were of course in the front row as well which no doubt added to the effect. the power and stamina these people have is stunning. no surprises that they have their own personal trainers.

the first song featured two women playing on an o-daiko drum, they sang as well as drummed which was amazing in itself, one of them dropped one of her sticks, then dropped her spare, the other drummer, passed hers over, picked the dropped one up that was next to her and carried on with complete grace and precision, not missing a beat. anyone else would have fumbled the whole thing after that.

the next song featured 3 guys in a circle all playing hirado drums, swapping positions, sharing drums, basically dancing round the things playing the most powerful raw beats i've ever heard. i bought a kodo cd ages ago but you really have to be there to see and hear the immense power from these things.

the most amazing piece of the enitre show was near the end with two guys playing on the big o-daiko drum (in le pic) for what seemed like about 15 minutes. the muscles in the guys back were about to burst, he was sweating rivers right in front of us and he was gasping for air at the end.

percussion perfection. dropped jaws all round. yes

if you ever get the opportunity to see them, take it.
