For a peek at the future of Home Entertainment, LG displayed its revolutionary OLED TVs at IFA last week, including a new 31” 3D model with a depth of just 2.9 mm, the slimmest of any comparable set in the world. Dispensing with back-screen lighting, OLED TVs’ pixels generate their own light to produce an entirely new level of colour, clarity and depth of blacks. We can’t wait for it to arrive in the UK!

Here’s some footage of LG UK’s George Mead talking about OLED with
Phil Hinton from AVForums.com

LG marked the opening of IFA 2010 in style by unveiling a giant 3D media façade in Kulturbaruerei, the cultural heart of Berlin, to highlight the upcoming range of devices under the LG Optimus series label.

The ever-changing 3D artwork on the nearly three-storey high screen (23 x 21m) captured the attention of many a passerby. It started with a countdown on a giant hourglass before viewers were greeted by an “android” before the presentation took viewers on a fifteen minute ride that included whales, ice skaters, giant octopi, and steaming jungles amongst other things. The show concluded with the...

At this year’s IFA in Berlin LG will unveil the LEX8, the next generation of flat panel televisions featuring NANO Lighting Technology that will redefine “clarity” in FULL LED TVs.

NANO Lighting Technology takes the LEX8 to the next level of picture quality, producing LG’s brightest, clearest and smoothest picture yet. An extremely thin film printed with miniscule dots positioned in front of a full array of LEDs disperses light more evenly and effectively across the screen, creating pictures that are clearer, enticingly smooth and more defined. Combine this with an Anti-Reflection Panel on the LEX8 screen to minimize reflection from...

Neither parents nor children enjoy ‘those’ conversations about the serious issues. Discussing sex with your children or parents is undoubtedly a necessity, but what is the best way to broach the subject?

LG are offering parents in the US a helping hand with a video they have produced on the subject of ‘sexting’ (the distribution of pictures or pictures of a sexual nature via your mobile device, or making sweet sweet text as one nerd says in the video). The video is presented by Jane Lynch, better known as Sue Sylvester from Glee, as part of the LG Text Ed campaign....

When Blu-ray was launched it was the pinnacle of technology, quickly killing off the competition from HD DVD in the same way VHS killed off Betamax. If you were in Canary Wharf or Bank last Friday anytime between 4 and 7pm you may have been handed a bottle of water from LG. If you did you best have had a look at the label to see that you could enter a competition to win an excellent new LG fridge.

The new two-tone refrigerator from LG is ideal for those who hate frequent trips to the supermarket, with one of the largest capacities on the market at 385 litres in a standard size unit – that’s nearly the capacity of three bathtubs! It also ensures optimum freshness of...

I’m sure we all know someone who boasts of having watched all three Lord of the Rings films back to back. They are great films, but that’s over 9 hours spent sat on the sofa and I just don’t have the patience.

So massive respect to Sophie Read and friends who not only watched the full extended trilogy, but also did so dressed up as characters from the film. That’s 9 hours spent dressed like Gandalf for one poor chap! But Sophie has been rewarded for her dedication by being named the August winner for our Home Entertainment Hero competition and...

The rise of Android has been meteoric, it recently over took iPhone sales in the US and reports say a staggering 100,000 new Android phones are being activated each day worldwide. But there is a competitor on the horizon with the imminent release of the Windows Phone 7, which is lined up to hit the market in October.

Initial plans from Microsoft had the Windows Phone 7 lined up for a release last year, but delays meant that it was held off until this year, with Windows Phone 6.5 released in the interim.

Microsoft’s intentions for Windows Phone 7 are to create...

LG Electronics have three more awards to add to the trophy cabinet, after the prestigious European Imaging and Sound Associations 2010 Awards were announced. European Imaging and Sound Associations (EISA) awards are a highly respected accolade, as its judging panel is formed of editors of 50 European publications from 19 countries who each bring their own rigorous product testing, analysis and comparison.

The awards received by LG are for “European Best Value LCD-TV 2010-2011”, for the LCD LED LG 42LE5300; “European HT Compact System 2010-2011” with the LG HB45E, and “European Green Mobile Phone 2010-2011” with the best selling LG GD510...

There are certain moments in life where you suddenly become unable to articulate your sentiments. Like when you’re at the doctors trying to explain the pain in your foot, but the words escape you and you end up pointing at your foot saying “it hurts” over and over. Well it’s a shame your foot is not made by LG because if it was you would simply be able to press a button and hold it up to the phone and the engineer on the other end would know the fault via SmartDiagnosis.

LG haven’t moved into the prosthetic limb business, instead...

GD900 Crystal:
The Crystal is much more than just a visually stunning phone. The clear slideout touchpad can be used for many more purposes than just a conventional keypad. It can be used as a touchscreen to navigate around the screen like a computer mouse, it has handwriting recognition for texting and even has multi-touch capabilities.

Furthermore the video camera will record in both slow and fast motion, meaning you can take some really entertaining videos.

Offering green solutions to consumers is something LG have rightly invested heavily in over the past few years. These initiatives include a reduction of 2.1 million tons of greenhouse emissions in the first 6 months of 2009 and a $168 million investment in repurposing a decommissioned factory into a factory to make solar panels.

And some of these solar panels may well find their way onto LG’s latest air conditioning unit. It’s a wonderfully simple solution really – we use air conditioning as an answer to hot weather, so why not harness the sunlight causing the heat to help us cool...

Android have had a good couple of days from the sound of things. Firstly they announced that market research from the NDP group had them listed as the highest selling smartphone in the US for the first ever time, with a 33% share of the market. This marks the first time the Google running smartphone has outsold the iPhone, who had a 21% market share, and the Blackberry who dropped as market leader with a 28% share*.

Android’s share of the market looks destined to increase with their latest announcement today – the update to Facebook for Android. The latest of the TEDTalks videos to catch my attention was the innovation of a headset that reads your brainwaves, held by Tan Le from Emotiv Systems, a company who develop this technology surely destined to be the next generation of human-machine interface.

The brain is made up of billions of active neurons, when...

There is just one day left to take your place in history and submit your entry to the groundbreaking Life in a Day project!

For those unfamiliar with the project Life in a Day is the first of its kind, a user-generated film experiment where users submit footage shot on the 24th of July capturing a moment of their lives from that day. Selected footage will be included in a feature length film directed by Academy Award Winning director Kevin MacDonald and produced by the legendary Ridley Scott, director of Blade Runner, Alien and Gladiator. If having your footage in a...

The rise and rise of Android is attributable to many factors. Things like the variety of handset choices, the openness of the apps for developers and the price in comparison to other smartphones being a big factor. For me one of my favourite things about Android is the inclusion of Google Maps as standard, including being able to use it as a sat-nav tool for free!

Today the Google Maps application, which comes as standard on all Android phones, got even better with the arrival of Google Maps for mobile 4.4 – the sixth update in six months for Google Maps!

This year, the festivities took place in July at the Aalto Theater in Essen, where more than 1,600 companies from almost 60 countries displayed over 4,000 products. LG Electronics, now well established as a design innovator, received four winners’ awards and two honorable mentions.

Aside from Sony’s 11inch offering that was launched 2 years ago (and is subsequently no longer in production) there has been little in the way of OLED available for the consumer market. Well LG’s commitment to new technologies strikes again with the arrival of the 15inch EL9500 OLED, in selected stores now!

You may well be asking yourself not only is this technology any good, but is this TV any good? Well according to AVForums it’s excellent!

I finally managed to get my hands on the new LG Viewty Snap phone and have been putting it through its paces!

One of the biggest selling points of the Viewty Snap is the use of it as a quality multimedia phone – with a 5mp camera complete with Optic-all zoom so you don’t lose picture quality as you zoom in. Build on this with an LED flash and good quality video recorder and you have a decent camera. The pictures below were taken using the camera, the second photo using the zoom.

His first thoughts were how the “3D effect really draws you in and the sense of depth to the picture is incredibly realistic”.

Those of you familiar with AVForum’s reviews will know that they are exceedingly comprehensive – taking an impressive level of knowledge to their reviews. Any of you familiar with the LX9900 TV will know that this is LG’s big release of the year – their first 3D TV!

Our current Home Entertainment Hero competition is giving those hosts who make the extra effort the chance to win an excellent full 3D home cinema system.

We’ve had loads of entries, from people throwing tea parties for their dog through to people painting themselves blue for an Avatar themed party, but the first winner of the 3D home cinema system was Michal Thomas. Michal went all out turning his garden into a football stadium complete with stadium seating salvaged from the Old Wembley Stadium and a specially built open sided structure with a roof to protect from the unpredictable English Weather....

Let’s be honest, you didn’t really want to do it. It’s for kids wasting their time, too young to know better. But it’s everywhere; in your face 24/7 everywhere you go. That’s why you did it. That’s why you joined Facebook, Twitter, Foursquare or any of the other numerous social media sites out there! And to be honest, we joined them all too…

Well LG’s latest initiative is putting a fun spin on social media with the new ‘Socially Smarter’ campaign. The campaign is spread across idents for Channel4 and E4 (which can also be viewed on the dedicated YouTube channel)...

LG have teamed up with YouTube and the world famous filmmakers Ridley Scott and Kevin MacDonald in asking people around the world to help them create the first user generated feature length documentary shot in one day – the 24th of July 2010. The finished product will be directed by Kevin MacDonald, the Oscar winning director of the documentary ‘One Day in September’ and has...

The England football team may have crashed out of the World Cup prematurely, but we can still take comfort in being one of the best rugby union teams of the past 10 years, with a World Cup title and another appearance in the final. Techradar recently gave the LG BD750 Blu-ray player a 5 star rating and now the HB965TZ Blu-ray player has received a 5 star review and taken the top prize in a group test with What Hi-Fi Sound and Vision.

The HB965TZ is an all in one speaker and Blu-ray combo offering wireless connectivity and “stylish design”. Up against similar offerings from JVC, Panasonic and Samsung, the LG walks away with the top prize being “a wonderfully rounded, highly capable all-in-one system”.

The strengths of the HB965TZ are listed as “stylish design; built in wi-fi connectivity; punchy, clear sound; colourful, detailed images” resulting...

The great reviews for LG’s technology keep rolling in as Techradar award the BD570 media streamer an excellent 5 stars and ask the ultimate question, ‘is it a media streamer that plays Blu-rays, or vice versa?

The closing comment of the review states “The...
