<description>BackgroundClean drinking water is an essential part in maintaining quality health among any population. Dharamsala's lack of filtered drinking water is significantly contributing to a rise in health problems in both the local Indian community and the Tibetan Refugee community alike. An inadequate drainage and septic system, leaking water pipes, water shortages and polluted drinking water all contribute to the decrease in health that the local community is facing. The most vulnerable members of society, those living below the poverty line, bare the biggest health burden.

To support the Lha objective of preserving the Tibetan culture, funds are currently being solicited for developing and managing a website (in the Tibetan language) which will provide information on current environmental issues within Tibet, to the Tibetan population across the globe

Destruction of the Tibetan environment has global implications. The Tibetan plateau is the world’s third pole, with its vast ice fields giving rise to waterways that influence the lives of about 85% of Asia's population, or 47% of the world population downstream. The Tibetan Plateau is the principal watershed of

<description>On March 20, 2013, the volunteers and staff of Lha were thrilled to install our fifth institutional size drinking water filtration unit at a Tibetan school located just a few hundred meters from our offices. Since most of the students there are quite young, this installation will protect this very vulnerable population from serious water-borne disease during the upcoming monsoon. Like all of the units used for this project, this one has the capability of producing one hundred liters of pure drinking water every hour. A five hundred liter stainless steel storage tank

This year, 16 students, 3 professors, and 2 group leaders came to Dharamsala led by Professor Ron Mark. For two weeks, the Tulane students spent time, one-on-one, with Tibetan students from Lha learning about each other's cultures. For the Tibetans, it proved an excellent venue for practicing basic English conversation skills.
The Tulane students delved deeper into understanding the Tibetan situation by meeting with numerous NGOs and
