i was looking in new rule book, and it says "a unit may disembark after the vehicle moves"
"...may assult after disembarking[from open topped]"
"skimmers moving flat out may move 24" "

but i can't find a rule which says i can't assult after moving flat out

so, i'm hoping i'm wrong, but my DE, can move 24, jump out, fleet, then assult 12(sometimes)

i'm sure this is wrong but if i could get a page reference to prove it, that'd be great

I'm pretty new here, and I was asked for the battle report that produced my picture "Take That Hill" over in the Space Marine/Daemonhunter forums. Honestly, since it was a couple months ago, I can't quite fully recall the full forces arrayed, but the scenario was "I didn't see that coming." I can't quite find the write up of the scenario, but suffice to say, the good guys were there to keep the Chaos off some crazy warp rift.

I'll go through as I come to each picture with what was going on. Unfortunately, a number of pictures that should have been taken never were, so there are a few gaps in the whole story. I'll do my best though to relate to everyone what was happening.

The good guys consisted of some Grey Knights, an actual Imperial Guard Armored Company list, and then my own tanks from Charlie Company, 1/72nd Armored Infantry and supplimented by stormtroopers and sentinels from Alpha Company.

The bad guys brought CSMs, Daemons and Orks to the table. Or something like that. I don't know..the Orks hardly made a showing, beyond a couple of weird tanks that I can't remember what they were and a grot rocket launcher on a trakk.

Oddly enough, though the game store had split us up into two tables, they'd put all the most experienced people on the table I was at...save for me, with my since-march-of-this-year experience. Oops.

I knew from the get-go that we were going to lose the starting bid: we were facing Daemons. We still tried to get them to go first, with a meager bid of 8 minutes. They went with 1 minute. Go figure. It took them about that, too, sadly.


First we've got parked behind the skull cave a Leman Russ from the Armored guy, then my Vanquisher. Behind the hill you've got three Armored Guy basilisks, atop the hill is my disruptor beacon, another russ, my Iron Brick (The one thats got pink on it), another Vanquisher, Bun-Bun the Baneblade, and my Demolisher directly behind. My tanks are all done up in a Desert Camo scheme, Armored Guy's were all in a Blue-black-grey color.


To the left of bun-bun, you've got an Exterminator, some Grey Knights, a Land Raider, More Grey Knights, and another Leman Russ. Oh, and some scouts in the trees. Beyond the camera to the left, you've got another ridge with more Grey knights behind it. My Sentinels would later march on from reserves on that corner.

You might happen to notice some skulls lying around; those were all objective markers, save for one in the town square (not pictured yet.). In there was my "Commander' figure on a pedastal, pretending to be an objective as well as a statue.'


Bad guys deployed quick and easy; you're looking at nearly the entirety of it, save for the Ork trakk off in the town (again not pictured.). From left to right, you've got the two weird orky tanks, a Baneblade, and a Warhound. That thing would spend the entire battle being a pain in my backside.




First things first: I move my baneblade forward, and we all start shooting at the baneblade and the warhound. We take it's shield down and manage to take the big plasma gun offline, and that's about it. The chaos baneblade shrugs off the shots by my vanquisher, which has started pulling back from it's edge of the ridge and moving towards the safety of the rest of my tanks.
And thats about it. All in all, not an effective first turn.

Then it goes over to chaos.
First things first, the daemons deep strike in. My disruptor beacon sends some waaaaay across the board to the far corner, but the Soul Grinder lands right by our lines, directly in front of the Iron Brick. Some more Daemons try to deep strike, and they too end up on the far side of the board. But the Chaos Shooty Time saw that poor disruptor beacon take the brunt of fire from everything that could fire, except for the Mega bolter on the warhound..which instead turned the scouts in the trees to hamburger. The Grot Rocket lands in the Grey Knight HQ and dings them up a bit....And finally, just to irk us....


Chaos drops a blind barrage across our front. Figures.

Back to us now, my sentinels march on the board, and as far as I recall, thats about all that showed up. My Hellhound and Chimera of Stormtroopers were still in reserve.
Oh! Wait! Almost forgot! Starting on the corner of the board we were all fighting over and ending by the misplaced daemons, a Vulture comes swooping in!



The Grey Knights start moving towards the town to take out that annoying ork, and the other knights move towards the warp rift. We take a shot at the warhound and take back down it's void sheilds and take its other gun offline, while Bun-Bun the Baneblade gets a drive-Damaged result on the chaos blade after moving further down the road. The Vanquisher stays in the smoke screen and takes a shot at the baneblade, but doesn't do anything to it. Bad gunners!


The vulture, meanwhile, has some Daemons in it's sights. And it appears a broodlord got distracted on the way and joined in with them...most curious....

So far so good, we've suppressed the Warhound for now, and that chaos baneblade is going to be taking its time now.

I wish I had a picture of this next part....Basically what happens, the Warhound stays behind the rocks to repair itself for a bit, the shooting from the chaos baneblade damages Bun-Bun's engines, and chaos deep strikes some more daemons in, right next to the basilisks. Unfortunately, due to no longer having a beacon, they flank marched in behind us.....with a horde of about 75 zombies. Oh, and the soul-grinder assaults bun-bun, nicking off a structure point.


In order to get on the board with my chimera, I had to pretty much tank shock onto it! So, I just spun it into reverse and backed onto the board. Along the side of the mess came on my Hellhound..and the Armored Guy brought on 3 more on the opposite side! The Demolisher lined up next to the hellhound, the exterminator came alongside them, and...well...thanks to the tank shock to get on, the undead were nice and tightly packed. The vulture, meanwhile swooped on across the board and started playing shooty at the Daemons on the rock! Also appearing about this time..some grey knights on that flank, and a chimera with some Techpriests aboard.
Bun-bun pulls forward some some more, and then backs up into a building. Also, shoots at the warhound and takes that plasma destroyer offline yet again before it can fire, and then nicks a structure point off the chaos baneblade. The Vanquisher finally lands a shot and takes out the battle cannon.

And now, the resultant barbeque...


Mm, toasty.

And it was at this point at which, to prevent the Daemons from assaulting the Basilisks further....well...
TAKE THAT HILL!


Poor guys didn't stand a chance. The Emperor would be proud, though.

Now, it has become the Chaos turn again....

What I'd give to have ramming rules right here. I can't believe the Iron Brick missed that shot, either.
Now that its at least got a gun back, the Warhound is mad and shoots at one particular pest. After a roll of straight sixes, the vulcan megabolter turns the Vulture into a lawn dart.
Poor thing.
To add to the fun, they summon up a nurgle-guy but luckly, it can't assault my poor vanquisher's rear armor that turn. Luck there....not so fortunately, the Soul Grinder assaults Bun-Bun again, this time taking out the drive system entirely and a lascannon.



(Note the demolisher has pulled up along side bun-bun at this point; this was taken at the end of the chaos turn and during our movement) You can see the smoke on the back end of my Baneblade and wrapping around the lascannon. At the bottom, you can also see the hill the Grey Knights tried so hard for is now empty....guess the Daemon decided it didn't want it anymore and instead felt like going for the objective.

Unfortunately, at this point, the Daemon player had to up and leave, thusly the soul grinder leaving the table. It was a sad moment, because while it may not have changed the game, it did make it harder for the other guys. Which really sucked.
Ah well, regardless on the far end of the table, the Grey Knights took the town objective, and though my Sentinels wanted a piece of the action, they were too slow to get into range to fire into it all.


Thinking they'd be fine, I decided to unload my troopers from the Chimera...made for quite the shooty time! Our turn ended with us trying to get our stuff closer to objectives, but Chaos managed to immobilize my vanquisher, taking it out of scoring.
And as for the dismounted stormtroopers?


They stood their ground, which is all I could ask for them. Right up until they were dismembered and eaten by the horde.

I know its kinda fuzzy for detail at the end here, but, I'd started forgetting to take pictures at that point..and the specific details were failing me. What I do know, though, is that we won, holding a total of four objectives to their two. Unfortunately, chaos won the day on the other table, holding a 5-1 over the good guys, making Chaos the overall winners by two points. It was a sad day..but hey, I won a heavy weapons squad!

And that right there, is about the best I could describe the battle to my memory. Kae'tyr, one of the most intelligent beings in the galaxy, struggled through the necropolis, feeling his body failing, cursing the weakness. He could tell he would not live to see the old ones crushed, but he would nevertheless unleash the element of their destruction upon them.

He reached the obelisk in the centre of the necropolis, and entered, before being taken up to it's very top, brushing the edges of space. He looked up at the hated star which cursed them with death, then bent over the great dimension relay, whose controls would remain incomprensible to almost the entire universe for eternity, before aiming it at the star later know as Eta Carinae, where one of the greatest c'tan ever to have been discovered fed. He focused the relay on the great conciousness, drawing it down into the prepared necrodermis, watching the great being gradually come to life. As the c'tan slowly appeared, Kae'tyr felt his body failing him at last, and knew his name would be remembered by the necrontyr as the destroyer of the old ones.

Through the haze of death, Kae'tyr saw the c'tan straighten and freeze, tasting the universe for the first time. Eventually, the c'tan began to move again, and floated over him as he lay dying. The last thing he saw as a necrontyr was the great being reaching down to him.

The Outsider felt the pull of the dimensional relay, and eagerly waited for the monent when he could join the material universe, and taste the splendor the necrontyr and Mephet'Ran had promised.

He gradually saw a great city spread out beneath him, and standing before him, a necrontyr smiling in awe and pride as he saw the Outsider and death took him. The Outsider froze, feeling the taste of the Necrontyr's emotions, as well as those in the city around him. He could tell the necrontyr in front of him was incredibly intelligent, one of the greatest minds in existance. The Outsider gradually felt comprension of the Necrontyr, as tiny portions of the essence leaking from the city he had absorbed remained in his conciousness, allowing him to understand the necrontyr, although this unique ability would one day be his downfall.

He suddenly noticed the Necrontyr in front of him dying, and knew that that necrontyr would be able to bring him great feasts of essence. He floated over the body, and reached down as kae'tyr's eyes closed, and rescued his essence from his dying body.

The Outsider fashioned a necrodermis for Kae'tyr's essence, and placed kae'tyr's essence within it. Kae'tyr named the Outsider Tela'Tor, meaning great saviour, beleiving him to be the saviour of the necrontyr race.

Kae'tyr began to gather followers extremely rapidly for Tela'Tor, amzing the necrontyr with The Outsider's gift of eternal life, until Tela'Tor had many followers, almost as many as Mephet'Ran. When the Deceiver's offer of eternal life was made by the c'tan, only Tale'Tor truly kept his word. While every other c'tan feasted on their disciples, Tela'Tor transferred their essence wholly to an improved shell, devised by Kae'tyr to retain the necron's personality perfectly for all eternity. In so doing, Tela'Tor's name was proven to be prophetic, as only his followers remained truly necrontyr. However, in so doing, he earned the title of the Outsider to all other c'tan and their servants.

when all of the Tela'Tor's disciples were transformed, the outsider himself fashioned a necrodermis for Kae'Tyr, one far superior to every other necron lord's. When Kae'tyr first fought, he discovered that he too had Tela'Tor's gift of absorbing some of his enemies' essence, gained while the Tela'Tor had held his essence to save him.

At first, Tela'Tor fought in a way similar to the other c'tan, attacking simply and brutally against the old ones. However, as he absorded the essence of fallen old ones, he and Kae'Tyr learned of their way of war, which can be likened to that of the eldar. He began to fight the old ones in this way, easily crushing them, contributing to their downfall just as much as the Nightbringer and the Deceiver, if not more. Tela'Tor had a huge advantage over the old ones and the other c'tan; His followers could enter the webway, as they remained intelligent, and were motivated by undying loyalty to Tela'Tor. However, the webway fought back against the necrons, shifting and changing, never allowing them near the centre where the darkest of secrets would one day lay.

When Tela'Tor found he could reach no more of the webway, he, like the other c'tan began to lose interest in hunting the old ones, and faded from knowledge for aeons. When the young races struck back against the necrons, Tela'Tor once again fought, choosing to battle every race at once in a campaign of terror, before finally coming face to face with the laughing god, whose followers he had never fought. because of this, The Outsider was able to be tricked by laughing god into devouring all of the few remaining c'tan, except for the Nightbringer, Deceiver, and Dragon. The Outsider was saved in the end by Kae'tyr personally traversing the webway using knowledge absorbed from the greatest of the Old Ones, in order to find and slay an avatar of the laughing god. Kae'tyr was then able to pass this knowledge onto Tela'Tor, who was finally free of the machinations of the laughing god for all eternity. The laughing god discovered this, and fled to the deepest reaches of the webway.


However, the fragments of the devoured c'tan remained in the outsider's mind. Being far greater than any other things he had devoured, they tormented his mind, driving him to insanity. To escape from the whispering, The Outsider created the dyson sphere, where he would rest. Before he sealed himself into the Dyson sphere, he ordered Kae'Tyr to search the galaxy for a way to rid him of the voices of the trapped c'tan.


So it was that while the necrons slumbered in their tombs and the young races grew up, The legion of the Outsider, led by Kae'Tyr searched throughout the galaxy for the way to cure their beloved god. Unlike other necrons, they conduct experiments to this day, advancing their science to an incredible mastery of the material universe.


The necrons discovered a way to free Tela'Tor using a combination of the blackstone fortress technology and the dimensional matrixes in 33,457. After building the device over two millenia, they discovered that the harlequins had sealed the dyson sphere, trapping the Outsider. They now seek to understand the webway, and know that the Outsider may be freed from his prison if they can defeat the harlequins, their most hated enemy.
