Ok. This took many thinks and a whole bunch of information from many, many people, so shouts have to go out to almost every regular contributor on the forum for helping me make what I'm hoping is my first reasonably balanced list.

I decided after much thought that my play-style tends to be more defensive, more of a come-and-get-me than the blood-thirsty, "raaaaaargh!", Khorne-type play. Perhaps I should have chosen Dwarves as my first army; however, this list should let me do my happy defensive lark while playing about a little with some offensive tricks. As it's so heavily based in bringing the enemy to me, the natural expansion is into offensive troops; I haven't used any Special choices in the list, so nothing would be easier than chucking in a few units of Knights to gallop madly around and skewer things.

Anyway, on with the list:

Ok. There are definitely problems with this list. There is a lack of heavy-hitting units. In fact, that's pretty much the problem with this list. It's rather light-weight for a Chaos list.

One Sorcerer will go in each of the Marauder units. Two Sorcerers will go in the Warriors unit, including the MR(2) and the Rod of Torment. The Warriors should hopefully present a tasty target, but should also be reasonably hard.

The Power Stone will allow at least one Fire spell to get off, on top of a hard-casting core of four Buboes per turn; although I don't have any particularly hard-hitting units, I hope to slow the enemy enough with march-blocking Slaanesh Horsemen and flank-hitting/war-machine-hunting cruise-missiles to ensure that when the enemy do finally arrive at my main line they've run out of character support. I should then be able to moosh what's left with my rather hard-core unit of Warriors, the two-large units of Marauders and their flanking Hellcannons.

Anything that has survived of the Slaanesh and Khorne Horsemen will do rather a nice job of humping the back of enemy units while they get mashed in front by my footsloggers.

At least, that's the plan....

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I'm just wondering what you guys would generally suggest for a solid selection for your hero/lord section? I am going to start with a thousand points and work my way up to eventually 2000 and beyond. Which is better: magic heavy, a mix of magic and close combat, close combat heavy, or are they all pretty good. I bought the battalion and i am planning on using everything there as well as getting a little bit of everything else in the army list, now i just wanna to figure out what to buy for heroes (and lords for higher point games when that comes). As for marks, i am planning on using a variety of them, choosing undivided rather than an entire army dedicated to one god. Thanks in advance.

I will admit, i haven't been playing orks for that long but Kans seem like the best Heavy option available to foot slogging orks. I typically run: Big Mek(KFF,PK EA BP) 3x3Killa Kans w/ KMB 3x27Slugga Boyz(w/ NOB PK BP EA). thats 1250pts, so there is plenty of room for more goodies in any list. i usually add Nob Bikers, Kopptas, Snikrot, or Lootas for faster-longer ranged help.

Regardless of the mission i run Kans out front followed by boys and Big Mek. Mek gives hull down to at least 6 of the kans. Kans give 4+ to boys who follow. if your opponent flanks for shots on the boys they still have cover save from the KFF (5+). Kans prevent enemy from using short range templates(flamers) because they reach the target first. frankly i dont think many army's has the firepower to take out 9 hull down Kans. if you do they have done there job and have delivered 3 full squads of boyz across the board. only str10 blast have the potential to destroy more than one Kan per turn(only the blast hole is full Str against vehicles, not sure if its different for walkers). I am seeing more short range Melta shots and big blasts in 5th. some people still rock squads of high str low ap but i think there are less of them now.

they also have the best BS(3) of any ork unit with access to a great gun -> KMB st8, ap2, 24inch light tank popping potential. they do have a low WS but i don't see it as a detouring factor for the kans. they only roll 5+ against WS5+ units (HQ's & Combat Specialists). one str 10 attack landed on a HQ will kill it outright, combat specialists will find your boys to be a better target. So you typically still hit on 4+ like everyone else. Lysander Eats Kans for Breakfast :( dreds are great at taking out armor...something orks lack. they are also very cheap even when equipped with the most expensive of guns at 55 each.

i don't understand why people take Def Dreds, they have bad armor, bad BS, only one more attack, cost double the points of a Kan, and if you loose one def you loose a whole Heavy choice and all the worthless guns you bought him. i don't consider being able to be a troop choice a big advantage-> Orks have access to one of the best/cheapest troop choices in the game. if you are worried about strategic points you didn't take enough Boyz. Pure Nob biker lists are a different story.

One problem i see for any ork player is the cost associated with buying the models, 3 full squads would be over 200 bones :( that's why i have scratch built my own. pictures to follow...

Looking forward to input. if i have misspoken about anything please feel free to correct me.
Or are the two pods considered to be one weapon resulting in just 1 large blast?

I'm just wondering because 3 multi-laser, 6 heavy bolter, and two large blast rocket pod shots seems like a lot of firepower for one model each shooting phase.

Me and a few friends are starting a gaming club at a local hobby shop in Spring Lake, NC. Its called The Gamer's Guild. We are currently 5 members strong, with a few more that come once in a blue moon. We are all very friendly and competitive. We have game sizes ranging from 1000 points to 10 player strong apocalypse games, the last one was at roughly 15k points. We make our own terrain, and table tops, one because its better than the regular table and two, to protect the table we are playing on. We meet up there on Wednesdays, some of us are there around 3pm, some of us get there a little later, but we usually stay til around 10-11pm-ish, and Saturdays we are there from around 2-3pm, depending on the day til as late as they stay open. So if your looking for a fun friendly gaming community, we are located at...

The idea is to use the anvil to march across the board as quickly as possible with my 3 slayer units and start chopping. Quarrelers hold the flanks, Rangers march block/redirect. Gyrocopter hunts warmachines and flank/rear charges. Dragon Slayer goes in a slayer unit, and can pop out to try to deal with anything nasty.

I'd like some criticism, but I don't have any other models to take really besides 10 Temple Guard so suggesting other models won't help me, more-so I was looking for help with the builds of the characters and general strategy advice for fighting either army with my lizards.

It's my first game with my Lizzies so I have high hopes, victory isn't priority but I'd like to avoid being massacred and generally do my best, I'm quite ecstatic as I've been dying to try out my Cold-Blooded fighters since I started assembling the first Skinks out of the battalion.

Basically it goes like this (quick note, this is going to be long, sorry about the text wall). I've gone through and come up with 3 different lists that I feel comfortable with at the 1500 point level. Of course, I can only run one list at a time, so I figured where better to go to ask questions than here. What I'm looking for:

-general opinion of lists
-opinion of lists in terms of different game settings (seize ground vs. annihilation, etc)
-general critique of strategy for that list

These lists don't differ too drastically in some respects, but they do have some differences I would like to discuss. Thanks to everyone who responds in advance and I look forward to critiques.

Note: List 2 is one that I'm not entirely sure on, mainly in the Vanguard category. Originally I had them as too tooled up, and kind of got them down to earth, but I'm still not 100% satisfied. This is one of the bigger issues of the 3 lists.

Note 2: Listed after dashes are things I use in combination (dedicated transports with their units and the like)

LIST 1:

- Drop Pod
Ironclad Dreadnaught (w/ Heavy Flamer replacement of SB)
-Drop Pod
Ironclad DN (w/ HF replacement of SB)
-1 Thunderfire Cannon
-2 Rhinos
2 x 10 Man Tactical Squads (1 has a Multi-Melta in place of a ML, both have Melta Bombs on Sgt)
Pedro Kantor attached to one of the squads
- Drop Pod
9 Sternguards (one w/ Combi-flamer, sgt. w/ melta bombs)
-4 Attack Bikes (2 w/ HBs, 2 w/ MMs)

Strategy:
1. Drop in IC dreads on first turn to cause havoc and hopefully eliminate either a) big vehicles (battle wagons, landraiders, etc) b) regular transports or c) large swaths of possibly problematic troops (like lootas or fire dragons)
2. On objective games, move 1 tac squad a piece to objectives
3. Have TFC do its thing preferably away from objectives forcing them to go out of their way to destroy it
4. Attack Bikes act as hunters, wheeling in behind enemy troops or vehicles, possibly spliting into two groups of 2 ABs each to force enemies to choose between objectives and dealing with ABs
5. Last drop pod comes in, either as a back up tool if, on objective, we're losing something, or if a unit of foot soldiers is still being troublesome. Obviously on objective games the 9 Sternguard whole up in an objective with their bolter's special ammo

Pros (IMO):
1.IC dreads have to be hit by heavy stuff to die, which is nice, and with Heavy Flamer and Multi-Melta, they can deal with their troop or vehicle threats on turn one via drop pods.
2.TFC can make back its points quickly and against horde it's almost like cheating.
3. Sternguards dropping in, shooting the place up, and then taking an objective is a wonderful thing.

Cons (IMO):
1. To be honest, I'm sure there are cons in there, but (seeing as this is the list I've spent the most time analyzing) I can't really see any big ones. Then again, that's why I've come here. It might be weak on the anti-Tau front though...

LIST 2:
-2 Drop Pods with 2 IC dreads (same as first list)
-2 10-man Tac squads each with Rhinos. (same loadout as list 1)
-Thunderfire Cannon
-10 scouts all with sniper rifles and camo cloaks (though one has a missile launcher)
-3rd rhino carrying 7 vanguard veterans and a chaplain (all seven vanguards have lightning claws, 3 carry melta bombs; obviously they are on foot). Chaplain has melta bombs, digital weapons, and a powerfist (for extra attack) (this rhino also has a dozer blade, just to add some extra insurance that it gets up close as opposed to accidentally suiciding on a rock)

Strategy:
-Dreads act similarly to list 1 (drop in, wreak havoc, etc.)
-Tac squads get to cover/ objectives
-TFC nukes stuff
-Scouts get in ruins (preferably objective ruins) and using the bolster defenses of the techmarine + camo cloaks sit tight with a 2+ cover save.
-Vanguards act as a sort of defense team for any point that looks like it will be overrun, especially where the scouts are concerned

Pros:
- Scouts should be able to make a pretty nice circle of doom with their sniper rifles
-Vanguards, if and when they hit CC will tear through things quickly via re-rolling attacks from Chaplain and re-rolling wounds from LCs.
-similar pros as list 1 concerning IC dreads and TFC

Cons:
-Vanguards are expensive, and against shooters they'll prolly go down quickly if not helped via rhino
-scout bs of 3 makes them less circle of death and more slightly menacing circle of annoyance
-Tac squads don't have any big backup like in 1st list (no sternguards dropping in late, or an attached Chapter Master)
-Lose attack bikes too

LIST 3 (last one, I swear):
-TFC
-2 Drop Pods w/ IC Dreads
-2 Tac squads w/ rhinos (same loadout + Pedro Kantor)
-Drop Pod with 9 sternguard (sterns have 1 combi-flamer, 1 combi-melta and sgt w/ melta bombs)
-10 scouts w/ sniper rifles and camo cloaks

Strategy:
-IC dreads and TFC same as others
- Tac squads same as 1st (and 2nd, slightly different because of Kantor)
- Sternguards again act as a backup/ advancing force
-Scouts get in an objective an hold tight

Pros:
-4 scoring units at 10 (sterns at 9) units each. With scouts and their good cover saves they can hold out fairly well and again sternguards are kind of a coup de grace in terms of stealing or holding an objective, or just destroying an enemy unit

Cons:
-Losing attack bikes. This could be construed as a pro or con depending on play style
-Little anti-armor. Beyond the dread's MMs, really only Melta bombs and Kantor can beat heavy armor. Furthermore, my scouts, due to point constraints don't have either a ML or Melta bombs, and in a pinch would need Sternguard support.

Phew...well, there are the three possible lists. I kind of like 1 and 2 more than 3 as 3 has much lower anti-armor weaponry. I'm also still thinking as to whether the vanguard setup in 2 is okay...Anyways, have at it, and thanks to everyone who has read through this abomination.

Hey everyone, I just went out and bought the Tomb Kings book yesterday after admiring the army for a long while, and playtested a few proxy games. The skellie bowmen rock against skirmishers and such, and I really like the reliability of the army, in contrast to my "main army", the Skaven.

Here's a 2k list I slapped together today. It's meant for friendly play, but my opponents include Lizardmen, extremely magic-heavy O&G, and Dwarfs, so I will definitely have my hands full.

-Tomb King w/ Destroyer of Entities: 240

-Hierophant w/ Cloak of the Dunes: 135

-Liche Priest w/ Hieratic Jar, dispel scroll: 165

-Tomb Prince w/ flail, chariot, Chariot of Fire: 172

-24 Skeleton Warriors (bows): 192

-24 Skeleton Warriors (bows): 192

-4 Chariots: 160

-24 Tomb Guard w/ standard, Banner of the Undying Legion: 265

-3 Ushabti: 195

-Tomb Scorpion: 85

-Screaming Skull Catapult: 90

-Screaming Skull Catapult: 90

The basic idea is as such. Anchor the center with skeleton bowmen and tomb guard. Stick SSCs where they will have best shots, use Ushabti to flank and cause serious damage. Have the TP and his Chariot of Fire ride with the other 4 chariots, seriously ruining the day of whoever they run into. Tomb Scorpion does its thing.

I have a few concerns about the army, and maybe you TK veterans can steer me straight.

First, I'm worried about magic, both on the offensive and defensive side. My lizardmen and O&G opponents usually bring a level 4 and two level 2 mages, with the lizardmen player usually bringing an engine of the gods as well. With only 4 dispel dice and one scroll, I feel as if I will get massacred in the magic phase, and won't be able to get off any usefull incantations due to the sheer number of dispel dice my opponents will be packing (Dwarfs in particular)

Second, do I have the combat ability to stand up toe-to-toe with guys like Hammerers, Black Orcs, Saurus, and the such? I've been trying to beef up my skeleton units to absorb the charge, but I can't decide if this is a good idea or just a habit I have from rolling 30 Clanrats deep as Skaven...

I really do love the look and the feel of the army, and the fact that it's one of the most balanced armies GW has ever released. Any and all advice is welcome!

Hi everyone,

I've just realised that my friends and I might be playing using either an old version of the clipping/aligning chargers rule and need to clarify whether this is the case and if what we are playing is what we're likely to see when we start playing at clubs (and hopefully tournies at some point) or if we're playing things differently to man + dog.

Basically, since we've started playing WFB again we've played it that as long as contact is made during the charge then the charging unit lines up and slides against its target to bring as many models into combat as possible.

Now this was all well and good until I watched Vaul's latest report videos and noticed that when the Flagellants charged the Savage Orcs there were only around 2 SOs and 3 FGs in base contact. This had me scrabbling for my rulebook and the FAQs to check whether we'd been missing something in the rules or not.

So, I finally found sort of an answer under the clipping part of the first FAQ. However, as they go to great pains to state that they consider it an aspirational way of resolving the issue I thought I'd ask here what generally happens in clubs and at tournaments. Is it strictly to the letter of the rules or is sliding used? (I realise every club may well have their own take on this but I'm just trying to see if there's a general consensus or not)

thanks
