She is currently resident vocal instructor for the Vancouver Film School and maintains a private practice. Her experience as an actor includes work in Canada and throughout the United States, and has earned her numerous accolades including a Jessie Richardson Award Nomination and lead roles with Bard on the Beach, Stanley Theatre, Touchstone Theatre, Ruby Slippers, and many more. PowerPoint has allowed a visual revolution, but it also encourages its users to oversimplify, to treat their audiences as passive subjects, and to rigidly stick to scripts in ways that replicate the 19th century lecture. This presentation endeavours to explore alternative uses of PowerPoint (and other presentation software, such as Google docs and Prezi) that ignore the imperatives of the software in favour of practices that disrupt traditional lecturing and encourage an interactive and poly-vocal approach to large classrooms.

Vancouver, January 23, 2009 – The Government of Canada is launching four projects designed to reach out to youth and the Chinese community and raise awareness of the Chinese Head Tax and other measures that restricted Chinese immigration between 1885 and 1947. This announcement was made today by Parliamentary Secretary Alice Wong, on behalf of Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.

LIDC's Cindy Xin wins Educational technology Innovation award

The LIDC is pleased to congratulate Cindy Xin for winning The BC Educational Technology Users Group (ETUG) Innovation award. Collaborating with Geoffrey Glass, and Andrew Feenburg (of the SFU School of Communication ACT Lab) their project, “Marginalia“ was recognized as an educational technology that would "enhance teaching and learning, and/or who provide greater service and support to students, faculty, staff, or administrators."

Clear Speech

In the LIDCs Clear Speech workshop, after three brief weeks of exploring the international phoenetic alphabet, experimenting with voice exercises, and examining the muscles responsible for articulation, participants were able to reassess their speech patterns and begin to make fundamental changes.
