The message included the MTCN number which is required to withdraw AdSense money from Western Union and a link to more information on how to pick up your payment.

In the footer, it tells you that the email notice is “mandatory”. Meaning, you cannot opt out (why should you, anyway?).

It was my first time to receive such an email from Google AdSense. I am not alone.

Previously, there was no notice at all. I have to mark “$$$” at the last day of every month in calendar to remind myself to withdraw my AdSense payment. I really appreciate the Adsense payment notice.

I bet many webmasters are not aware that it has been a month and a week passed in 2010. Many sites are still sticking to copyright year 2009 or earlier in the footer.

Twitter and MySpace have updated their copyright year after Feb 1st, 2010. Google Blogs Network, haven’t.

1. Copy the web page address that you want to track (but do not provide a feed).
2. Goto Google Reader and click the “Add a subscription” button.
3. Paste the web page address which you copied earlier and click “Add” button.
4. Google Reader prompts that the web page does not provide a feed but it can create a feed for you. Click “Create a feed”.
5. Done.

The feature comes handy if you want to track changes of a page but it does not provide a feed.

The generated feed is very simple and contains no info on what has been changed/added/deleted. Personally, it is not up to my expectation.

Apple iPad 3G will use Mini SIM card. What the heck is it? Isn’t our normal SIM card small enough?

According to WikiPedia, micro-SIM which also know as 3FF or “third form factor” SIM is an updated and miniaturized alternative to a SIM card.

Micro SIM is even smaller than the SIM card (Mini SIM) we have in our phones now. Micro-SIM is as small as the chip itself (15 mm x 12 mm x 0.76 mm) as you can see from the comparison picture below:

What’s new about Micro SIM?

Which phone uses Micro SIM?

As far as I know, no phone in the current market is using micro-SIM. Micro-SIM received a major boosts after announcement of Apple iPad.

If your local telco does not provide micro SIM then you cannot the 3G connectivity of your iPad 3G..

Of course, it is a scam.

How did I know it is a scam?

• The email is not sent from official site, in this case: Maybank2u.com
• Bank will NEVER send email to customer regarding account problem.
• The link is not official site.
• No contact information included in the message.

Most modern web browsers nowadays also automatically block suspicious website.

However, people might still get cheated if they happen to receive the scam email right after they done an online transaction. That’s quite tricky.

Always be alert.

I am an iPhone user but I don’t use the WordPress for iPhone because it is difficult to write HTML code without any shortcut keys.

I see the Android version has a few HTML shortcut buttons, that’s nice! Wish they will apply the UI to iPhone version soon!

However, the paper feeder was not working few months ago, and I was looking for a replacement printer — a network color laser printer. Yeah, not only network laser printer. I want to upgrade to “color” this time!

However, a color laser printer is not cheap, and even expensive with the network feature. Such printer would cost over RM1,000 (~USD$293).

Why Dell 1320cn network color laser printer?

Luckily, I found a great deal on Dell Malaysia — Dell Color Laser Network Printer 1320cn for only RM499 (with RM500 cash redemption)

Wow! That’s the price of a monochrome laser printer!

You might wonder, “A laser printer from Dell? How is the quality?”. Dell is so confident that they included a Dell vs. HP report to compare Dell 1320C to HP Color LaserJet 1600/2600N. In the report, Dell prints faster and has better colour output than HP Color LaserJet.

Without 2nd thought, I placed the order and received the laser printer few days later.

It was carefully packaged in a VERY BIG box! The printer is big and heavy, about double size of Brother HL-2070N. The setup is easy, simply follow the included quick instructions and you are ready to print.

One problem though, I am using Mac and the laser printer does not come with a Mac OS driver!

At last, I found the Mac driver for model 1320c (no network) on Dell Support. I installed the driver and set Mac OS to use the driver for 1320cn found on my home network.

Voila! It works!

The monochrome output is crisp and sharp. Color output is good, even though you can’t get photo quality. The printing speed is about 30 secs for the 1st print from idle mode.

Surprisingly, the colour printing is very fast. Believe it or not, printing in color (1st page) is actually FASTER than monochrome print. That’s weird…

You can access the printer settings via its web interface. There are some advanced settings such as email alert setup (email you when toner low, etc). Warning: you better don’t mess up with the settings if you don’t understand them!

If you or your company needs a budget network color laser printer, I would recommend Dell 1320cn laser network printer. I am a happy customer here.

If there’s any feature I would like to add to it, that would be duplex printing and additional paper tray (1320cn only has 1 paper tray). Is that too much to ask for at the printer’s low price? LOL~

What to consider before buying iPad?

If you already have a smartphone and a computer, iPad may be an additional device in your living room or bedroom. The touch screen user-interface made iPad a more convenient gadget than a netbook.

Admit it, it would be “very cool” to sit in StarBucks and surfing web by “molesting” Apple iPad’s display screen.

BUY!

Buy iPad NOW if…

1. you are fine with those “cannots”
2. you have some extra money to spend
3. you want to be the coolest person in StarBucks!
4. you cannot wait!

BUT…

1. Cannot listen online radio in the background while you are surfing website (no multitasking)
2. Cannot play your favorite FaceBook games (no Flash)
3. Cannot take photos (no camera)
4. Cannot make a call (no phone)

Else, you might need to pray for a better iPad (2nd Generation) in the future. Apple said nothing about iPad ver2, of course.

We expect future iPad will have multitasking, camera, and can make phone calls. How about Flash? I don’t think so..

Will I buy iPad or wait?

I have iPhone and iMac, I want to have a gadget for web surfing, emails, video and games, which is light & thin that I can throw into my bag and go. It is also a device that I can backup/upload photos taken by my DSLR.

I have been trained by iPhone for single tasking. I don’t play Facebook games. 100% Flash website is lame and I do not visits.

My iPhone can take photos and make calls, iPad doesn’t need to do that. Though I wish iPhone can share data with iPad wirelessly…

Seems like Apple iPad is what I want? No hurry. I can and have to wait (iPad only available Internationally 2 months later).

I will wait for the local pricing of the iPad and give it a hands-on testing before decide to get it or not. Hopefully, better iPad 2nd generation will be announced while I am still waiting.

Frankly, my ideal Apple iPad is something like a MacBook Air without keyboard.

According to Steve Jobs, iPad fills the gap in between a smartphone and a laptop, to do some tasks better: web browsing, email, sharing photos, video watching, music, games, and reading ebooks.

The iPad looks like a square shape, giant iPhone, which is quite dull. It is white at the back, and front with thick black borders.

• Processor: 1GHz Apple A4 (not the A4 paper in your photostat machine!)
• Operating System: iPhone OS 3.2
• Storage: 16GB, 32GB or 64GB flash drive

iPad virtual keyboard

The iPad virtual keyboard is similar to iPhone’s but bigger and it looks ugly in bigger size. Steve Jobs type on the virtual keyboard with two hands. It is not easy to hold iPad with one hand and typing with another hand, I guess.

iPad apps

iPad supports all existing iPhone/iPod Touch apps, either in its original size (in the middle of iPad) or scale up to iPad screen size.

Some apps have been rewritten to take advantage of iPad screen size, such asa Mail.app, Photos.app (more like iPhoto on Mac), iPod.app, YouTube.app, iTunes Store, App Store, Calendar, Contacts, (Google) Maps, Notes.

iTunes Store is useless. It is not available to Malaysians (yet), which means I cannot buy music, TV shows, podcasts and playback them on iPad.

The demo of “Brushes” is cool which you can drawing on iPad using your fingers. It could be the killer of Wacom tablet!

“The New York Times” app for iPad has been demonstrated to show the newspaper reading on iPad. It looks ideal but I don’t think Malaysia local newspapers will do e-newspaper anytime soon…

iBooks, the Apple’s bookstore, allows you to read and purchase ebook on iPad. No word on International availability. I do hope that it will be available in Malaysia so that we can save some trees and book cost.

iWord apps (Keynote, Pages & Numbers) has been redesigned for iPad to take advantages of its big screen and multi-touch feature. Each app is selling at USD$9.99 on App Store. Reasonable pricing, I must say.

3D games on iPad

3D games are demonstrated in the Apple event on iPad: Need for Speed (car racing) and Nova (FPS). The graphic is not as good as on laptop/desktop computer. But, still, Wow!

How much is an iPad?

Starting from USD$499 (16GB), 32GB is $599 and 64GB model is $699. You adds USD$130 to get the WiFi + 3G (data only) version of the iPad.

Availability: 60 days for iPad WiFi and 90 days for iPad WiFi in USA. For Worldwide availability, the iPad WiFi will be shipped in 60 days.

The price is surprising LOW. We were expecting $999 for a Apple Tablet! Apple really wants to make a BIG hit in the market with the affordable iPad!

iPad accessories

Few accessories are available as soon as iPad being announced:

• iPAd keyboard dock — allows you to type on physical full-size keyboard. The dock has a 30-pin connector to allows you connect to a USB power adapter, sync, and use accessories like Camera Connection Kit. An audio jack to let you connect to a speakers.
• iPad Case — the case to protect iPad and can be used in various positions so that it is easy to type, view photos, or watch movies.
• iPad Camera Connection Kit — allows you to import photos and videos from a digital camera. Camera Connector lets you import photos/videos using the camera’s USB cable. The SD Card Reader can read SD memory card to import photos/videos.

What’s missing in iPad?

• NO phone call — iPad supports cellular networks and build-in microphone but it cannot make phone calls, not even sending SMS!
• NO multitasking — Just like iPhone, no multitasking on iPad. You open one app at a time. Close an app to open another app. No background app. Disappointed!
• NO flash — Again, like iPhone, no Adobe Flash Player on iPad. You cannot play flash animation/video/games on iPad (read: no facebook game!)
• NO camera — no camera, neither front or back. Cannot take pictures, cannot make video conference calls.
• NO video out — You cannot connect iPad to TV to view the photos/videos on iPad. You cannot connect iPad to projector to do presentation, even though iPad has an Keynote app.

Update: iPad supports video out via vga adapter/apple composite cable plugged into the 30 pin connector. However, no HDMI output for High-Definition video.

Questions about iPad

• What’s the microphone used for in iPad, since it can’t make calls?
• Does the iPad’s big glass easily breakable?
• Is the ebooks on iBooks store colored? with pictures?

Will I buy an iPad?

Maybe.

In a nutshell, iPad tablet is not a computer. It is a bigger iPhone without phone feature.

I have an iPhone and iMac, and an outdated iBook-no-S laptop. iPad would be perfect as a portable surfing/reading/gaming device while I am on sofa or traveling.

The iPad has a very attractive pricing, indeed.

My dream Apple Tablet, as I mentioned earlier, the iPad fulfills the requirements of battery life (if it is truth as claimed by Apple, 10 hours), price, and memory card slot (with iPad Camera Connection Kit).

However, it has no Adobe Flash Player and multitasking, which are a BIG turn off. (To be fair, I don’t think we will never get Adobe Flash Player on iPhone OS..)

So, the answer is undecided. Maybe, I’ll wait for iPad ver2. Maybe, I’ll get a Windows7 tablet. Maybe, simply a netbook. Maybe…

Few hours to go before the Apple’s “Latest Creation” event which we are expecting Apple will announce the Apple Tablet (iSlate, iPad.. iDonno).

Despite the rumors in the past years regarding the Apple Tablet, I do really wish it includes the following features:

• Long battery life — Please, if it is gonna be portable, it should have a long lasting battery. Give me 6 hours of web surfing battery power!
• Terabytes storage — not really, but I wish Apple Tablet has few hundred GB storage to store media files (music, moviessss, photos, etc).
• USB port(s) — I would like to be able plugging any USB devices to the Apple Tablet, say a keyboard, a flash drives, external DVD burner, etc.
• Memory card slot — My little wishful thinking. A memory card slot in Apple Tablet which allows me to read/backup memory cards on-the-go.
• Adobe Flash Player — For your information, no Adobe Flash Player on Apple iPhone OS. I wish Apple Tablet supports Adobe Flash player natively and no more “This content requires the Adobe Flash Player” message when I am browsing websites.
• USD$730 (~MYR$2500) — Needs I say more? The cheaper the better it is but MYR$2500 would be nice.

OK. These are my wishful, fantasy.. feature list. IF, Apple Tablet (whatever it’s name) got the features, I will be the 1st to buy it! Muahahaha…

Reported by TheNextWeb, TechCrunch has been hacked again and the hacker inserted the following text (no censor) in the site’s header:

Apparently, the hacker is angry over the TechCrunch decision to put up the interstitial ad.

TechCrunch is back to normal, once again. Hope it will stable from now on. It is not a good idea to have the popular tech site hacked while Apple announce the Apple Tablet few hours later.
