On Saturday, April 13 from 4-7pm, we invite you to join us in a very special mission opportunity. LifeBridge is preparing to send two of our own — Sam and Wendy Lemmons — as full time missionaries to Nepal. This is a self-funded venture, so they are needing to raise $84,000 for their initial two year commitment in Nepal. They have sold their house and are winding down their life here in the USA, and will leave on April 14 for missionary training in Colorado, before leaving shortly after for Nepal.

On Sat. the 13th, join us at our church property for an outdoor BBQ, silent auction, and some fantastic entertainment from some local musicians. Also, we will be joined by a singing/dance group from the Nepali refugee community downtown, who will bless us with some amazing stories of what God is doing in their country. Please come, prepared to be generous, as we throw our support behind this couple in reaching the people of Nepal with the saving message of Jesus Christ. All donations given on this day will be matched by LifeBridge Church, up to $25,000. Let’s make this happen!

Our current foster children came into our homes in the summer of 2012. The older girl needed to be enrolled in school, and as we prayed about it we felt God directing us to look at a nearby private Christian school. Though there was no way we could afford the tuition and fees, they allowed us to enroll her and we began the process of applying for financial aid.

One morning, some friends of ours from our homeschooling community walked up to my wife and handed her a check for $500…a specific amount that God had put on their hearts for helping out our foster children. Later that day, the school sent home a notice that the enrollment fee would be $450. Done…and with $50 to spare!

Meanwhile, the financial aid was delayed for a few weeks while we sorted through some paperwork. She continued in school and we simply prayed that somehow we would get a huge break in the tuition costs…which normally ran close to $700 a month. As we shared that prayer with our LifeBridge church family one Sunday, one of the members went home that day and shared our story with her sister. Her sister said “it was like a lightbulb went off in my head” because she had recently set aside some money to donate somewhere…but just wasn’t sure where. As soon as she heard about our foster children, she knew that this was where it was supposed to go.

Later that day, they came out to our house and excitedly handed us an envelope with $1,000 cash in it. At first we tried to refuse such a large gift, but they insisted. Just a few days later, the school sent the notice that our tuition for the entire year would be — you guessed it: $1,050. The $50 left over from the first check, plus the $1,000 that had just been handed to us were exactly what was needed TO THE PENNY. We couldn’t help but chuckle at our God’s awesome provision.

This story happened a number of months ago, but I was compelled to write about it after a conversation I had with my confirmation class last night on the following verses from Matthew 7:7-11 where Jesus said:
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
“Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!

Bring a lawn chair or blanket and join us on the beautiful grounds of our new church property. Immediately following the worship service we will have an Easter Egg hunt for the children and brunch for all. All are welcome, and we’d love to have you join us on this day!

Telling the world that Jesus is ALIVE

Join us after church on Sunday, March 24 as we paint a new crop of ALIVE crosses to put out all over our community on Easter Sunday. It’s a powerful witness and reminder of the true message and miracle of Easter. We’ll be meeting at our church property on Mueschke Rd, and invite anyone who wants an Easter cross to come and join us on that day. We’ll be there from around noon til 3.

We only look to be here for a few months as our more permanent church home is built just a few miles down the road on Mueschke Rd.

But “church” in the bible never refers to a building or a location…it always refers to the people who have identified themselves as followers of Jesus Christ. Quite simply, the church is people.

So, “where is your church?” should prompt some interesting answers: I pray that on any given day our church is in their homes, loving the family that God has put them in. I pray that we are lending a helping hand to our neighbor, giving a shoulder to cry on for someone in need, down at the food pantry caring for those less fortunate, bringing the gospel to the foreign mission field, sitting in a retirement home with someone who is lonely, washing the feet of the homeless person downtown…

Our church just recently bought our first piece of property and will now have an answer to the question “Where is your church?” While I hope that people will come to our physical location and worship God with us, I fervently hope that the actual answer to the question is much more diverse and interesting than a street address.
