Last night, I watched Man of Steel at SM Manila. I was with the hubby, my mom and my sister Jodie. One word to describe it: awesome. The visual effects were astounding and it didn’t hurt that the lead star, Henry Cavill, was super duper hot! I love him already.

Directed by Zack Snyder, Man of Steel is a 2013 American superhero film. It’s actually the newest Superman movie with a twist. I liked how they made it look futuristic and contemporary at the same time. The crucial flashback scenes blended well with the story. The action scenes were nicely-choreographed I couldn’t bat my eyelashes for fear that I’d miss a moment. Haha.

Henry Cavil as the new Superman fits him to a T. I enjoyed staring at his gorgeous face and his strong, well-muscled body. His distinct, manly voice is also perfect for the role. He actually sounds like a god to me. Just kidding. Anyway, Clark Kent here is again paired with Lois Lane (played by Amy Adams). I thought they had chemistry.

Superman has a new costume in this movie. It has the same logo but in a darker tone. It actually resembles the black Spiderman costume with tighter spandex and without the brief.

I know I’m far from being an authority (I’m just an ordinary girl who occasionally shares her movie-related thoughts online) when it comes to declaring which movies are good and which are bad, but I’m telling you, Man of Steel is a must-see film and I’m betting it will be a smashing success in the box office (or is it already?). I can’t wait for the sequel. I heard it’s in the works now and will be shown next year!

I never thought there would come a time that I would need to wear glasses. I’ve always believed that I inherited my grandfather’s sharp eyes. He wore prescription glasses only when he reached 60+ and that was mainly due to ageing. Amazing, isn’t it? In this age of advanced technology where we get exposed to all sorts of chemicals and radiations everyday, our eyes aren’t spared from harm and eventually become vulnerable to damage.

yours truly trying to get the hang of it

The hubby and I still have 20/20 vision (I have sharp eyes, after all!) but we’ve recently found out we have a mild astigmatism to monitor. Astigmatism is a common condition of the eye that causes blurred or distorted vision. I have it on both eyes while he has it on the right eye only. This meant we needed to wear glasses already. And so we did, just over a week ago. The optometrist said we didn’t have to wear glasses all day but only when our eyes are working hard like when we are in front of the PC, reading books and watching TV.

the hubby with his new glasses

A pair of glasses can be costly pala. The frame can go anywhere from P2,000 to as high as P8,000 depending on the brand while the lenses are priced from P1,000 to 2,600. We got our glasses from two different optical shops just so we could compare prices: Sarabia Optical and Ideal Vision Center. The latter has more affordable frames and lenses and my glasses came from them because between the hubby and I, I’m the stingier. Haha.

Also, you have to get checked by the optometrist every 6 months to know if you’re condition got worse or not. But eye care is very important because our eyes are one of the most used (and abused) parts of our body, so keri na lang.

While dining out is fun, it can get expensive. As much as I wanted to skip dining out to save money, I can’t. There’s a lot of new and old restaurants to try, which means there’s also a lot of good food to taste and a lot of good company to have a fun time with.

While entertaining at home is also a good option, many people prefer dining out today when meeting with friends or spending some quality time with their loved ones. It’s must be because it’s more convenient and requires less effort than cooking food and setting up the dining table and cleaning up the mess after. Personally, I do enjoy entertaining at home despite all the hassles, but only during special occasions and when I’m in the mood for laboring in the kitchen (which is seldom).

Dining out isn’t just for the rich. A decent meal from a fast food restaurant could go anywhere from P100-P200, add a few hundreds if you want casual dining and add a few thousands or more if you want to savor a fine dining experience. You can choose the type of food or cuisine you want and the ambience you prefer but in the end, it just depends on how simple or how adventurous you are when it comes to dining out.

Actually, it’s not just about the money, but the memories shared and the wisdom gained. This is money well-spent because you get to experience good food and good conversations. Because you get to experience something new or something old with a twist. And while experiencing all this, you get to share everything with the people you love while helping the local economy in the process. It’s something priceless that you pay with money and time, if you know what I mean.

The hubby and I, as much as our combined resources could afford, go on dates once or twice a week to appreciate life better. It could be just the two of us, with our families or with our friends. It could be with new people, too, so long as the idea is to meet new friends and build new friendships.

With the many restaurants popping out like mushrooms in the metro, dining out can’t be more fun and enjoyable.

How about you, why do you dine out and how often?

Just what a positive attitude could do to a person!

Anyway, I’m really glad the work week ends today. It only means I’m having another great weekend. Hopefully, I could finish reading the book I’ve been reading for so long. And cook this dish that has been in my mind since last year. And clean up my closet. And do a lot more things.

Okay, that’s a bit of an exaggeration. I’m actually good, sane and all. I just love how the title above sounds. There are just two mobile games that I’m currently addicted to: Candy Crush and 4 Pics 1 Word. I know most of you are already familiar with the two games I mentioned so I won’t explain anymore how they are played.

Candy Crush is all about luck and strategies. Sometimes you’re lucky with the candies given to you, sometimes you’re not. Sometimes you have the best strategies but the board isn’t cooperative enough. Other times, it’s the other way around. I’m currently at Level 345 and for some reason, I don’t have the energy to move to the next level yet so I’m staying put, for now.

With 4 Pics 1 Word, on the other hand, you really have to think. And you will need help from friends because two minds are always better than one. Haha. In this game, sometimes what you see is what you get, but other times you have to dig deeper as to what the four photos are trying to convey. Like how pictures of a set of cabinet hardware knobs, a bouquet of roses, a dozen eggs and some grapes on a tray can be solved by typing in the word “bunch.” Easy, ayt? But it’s not always as easy as that. Actually, it gets harder as you advance.

How about you, any mobile games that (make you sane) you enjoy at present?

We were supposed to spend the last weekend just at home with my in-laws. Our Saturday was fun, as usual. I am proud to say that the hubby and I, after finishing a few errands, slept the day away. We really thought we deserved some rest. Haha. We just let Mama and Papa and my SIL do their thing inside our home.

On Sunday, however, all that had to change because the hubby and I, along with my side of the family, got invited to attend the baptismal celebration of my cousin’s baby son. The hubby and I, along with my in-laws, then found ourselves heading back to Manila in the morning, attending the christening at noon and spending the night at my in-laws to prepare for work the next day.

Every weekend is different. Actually, I don’t care so long as it’s fun and memorable. I can’t wait for what the next weekend will bring. Have a great day, people!

I think I have the most paranoid and anxious husband in the world. Last Tuesday, he got super worried and nervous because of the heart palpitation he felt after every meal time which would go away on its own after several minutes. I seriously thought it would have gone away faster than that if he remained calm and didn’t overreact. I know heart palpitation is a serious matter (it could easily lead to a heart attack!) but reacting negatively to it by getting nervous and all never helps. At all.

After a quick medical check-up, we found out that it was due to the high potassium level in his blood. (A few weeks ago, he started to eat lots of bananas and apples for a healthier diet.) While potassium helps greatly in the proper functioning of the heart, high amounts of this blood electrolyte can cause palpitation to some people. According to the doctor, the fact that the palpitation is temporary and goes away on its own means it’s nothing serious. Oh, thank God for that.

But that didn’t end there. My husband had to be sure. So, on Wednesday after office, we went to The Medical City in SM Manila to get an ECG. (The procedure costs P530 there.) Would you believe I also did the test just to show support to the hubby? Haha. All in the name of love. When the results came out yesterday, we were relieved to find out that we both have healthy hearts. I guess the hubby should really just learn how to relax and keep his calm, especially in the matters of the heart (yes, the physical one).

People, let’s take good care of our hearts by eating the right food, doing cardio exercises and simply relaxing. If only healthy hearts can be easily purchased, like those moth traps from cleanertoday.com, then maybe we would no longer worry about heart ailments. But no, our hearts can only take so much damage. It can be replaced, yes, but it will never be the same again.

Don’t you hate it when you have to change plans at the last minute? I do, especially if it’s weekend plans we’re talking about. I want my weekend to be as relaxing and fun as possible. I try to take as much rest as I could during the weekends. Weekends are almost sacred to me. Haha.

Last weekend, we were supposed to visit our family house in Naic to do some general cleaning. But because my parents had an errand to do, we had to re-schedule it to another date. Good thing another pleasant opportunity presented itself, for me at least. I was invited by my sister (the one with the new job) to go with her to a dinner event organized by their company for Saturday night. It was like a welcome party of sorts and each employee was asked to bring one companion. I asked where the venue was and when she told me it was at some resto inside Maxims Hotel, I didn’t hesitate to accept the invitation. I hadn’t been to that part of Resorts World Manila; I thought it was my chance to see a six-star hotel!

I would find out later that Maxims Hotel is a beautiful place filled with luxurious shops and expensive restaurants. As for the dinner event, we found ourselves treated to scrumptious Cantonese food at Passion Restaurant. Everything we ate there was as delicious as they looked. (Oh well, I’m biased to Chinese food, so don’t believe me 100%.) But yeah, If I had money to spare, I’d would have taken my family there pronto. I heard the price was on the expensive side.

On Sunday, the hubby and I just spent a lovely and relaxing day in our love nest in Bacoor. We slept and ate and cuddled a lot. We also did some household chores. As always, a thousand and one memories have been shared and stored in our hearts. I sooooo love weekends!

Just to be clear, it’s not me who’s just landed a new job but my sister. Actually, today is her first day at work. I dunno with you, but every time my siblings take on a new adventure (be it anything), I’m the one who feels the stress or anxiety or pressure or excitement or whatever feeling you could associate with it. I feel as if I were the mother. It must be because, as the eldest child, I treat my siblings as my own children.

You see, my sister lost her job (she used to work as a retail assistant for Globe) a month or so ago. One morning after that misfortune, another misfortune happened. She accidentally hit her head in the restroom and got a big bump in her forehead which prevented her from looking for a new job for weeks. When she was finally able to apply for a job, she fortunately got one fast. And I couldn’t stop thanking God for the blessing.

Is it just me or every elder sister gets the same happy feeling for their younger sibling’s little accomplishment? I’m really happy for and proud of my sister for having found a new job. She’s very responsible and mature for her age (she’s turning 22 this year!) and I loved how she was so masipag and determined in looking for a new job even without our prodding.

Let’s all wish my sister a great amount of luck as she takes on the challenges of her new job, shall we? Thanks!

I don’t know with you, but I’m quite inspired today. Or more like this day is an inspiring day. I think it’s both. I’m gonna let this day pass doing the things I love. Currently, and aside from work, that includes Facebook-ing (I used to keep my FB account unopened for days!), Candy Crush-ing (this game is very addicting, but that’s for another post), checking on my parents (they live a few steps away from work), eating (that’s a given!) and spending time with the hubby (I start and end my day engaging in a conversation with him).

Oh Friday, you make the week appear so easy and beautiful and fun to me.
