Virginia singer/producer duo of hybrid pop music, Sunny & Gabe, are kind of the new it thing of last week. They could turn into the new jj very quick, so you better keep an eye on them.

Their collaborative mixtape « Free Candy » is scheduled for this summer, so then we should get fixed about their potential.

Daniel Naudé’s first encounter with the Africanis was on a road trip through the Karoo in late 2006. At a point in the landscape where no settlement was in sight, a dog scuttled across the road, tail curled between its legs. It was about a metre high at the shoulder, and its hanging jaw was covered in foam. Naudé was struck that this was clearly a dog without an owner, a pariah-like creature. Soon afterwards he took his first portrait of one of these dogs in the Transkei, and the intensity of its expression and of their encounter inspired him to search for others in the Karoo and Transkei.

A great atmospheric electro R&B beats and a great taste when it comes to remix songs, Blackedout got what it takes to get noticed in this Soundcloud jungle. Maybe he will be the next xxyyxx, maybe not… Anyway his first self titled EP, is a real threat, sweet, melancholic and very well produced.

Your first song was a smooth ballad and your second track was an energetic electro-pop hit. What do you think your third track will sounds like?
Ha to tell you the truth I don’t know. I just enjoyed making it, so the scope is pretty wide but it fits.. Well I think it does. I just hope people feel the same as me when they hear it… Or it conjures the right emotion for them.

If you could switch your singing voice with anybody else, who would it be?
Michael Jackson

Can you remember the precise moment when you thought “Oh shit, I want a be a singer later” ?
Probs around the time I discovered Michael Jackson, me and my lil brother used to always try and write songs. I remember a trip to Jamaica when I was 12, I stayed in the house trying to write a song about a girl I didn’t know and hadn’t met yet, I think she was cute ha.

Are you afraid about the idea of going up on stage?
No not really, performing is one of the best ways to see how songs affect people in different ways. It always fascinates me…

You recently have been remixed by Sega Bodega (very good choice!) what are your others favourite electronic producer of the moment.
I have worked with FTSE and he was definitely one of my favourites, he understands me and creates the vibe I like…

Tell us about your track with FTSE, who is he, how did you two and end up working together?
FTSE and I are part of a secret society called let the music do the talking first… I think his manager put him on to me then we started talking on Soundcloud.

Have you thought of doing other collaborations anytime soon?
Yeah I would love to collaborate with Morrissey and Kanye West… I think it could work ha.

You run a TumblR called “Passion over fashion”, so fashion never comes first in your life?
No I mean more of following fashions or trends over following your passion.. I like to dress well, you feel so much better when you’ve got the right clothes on.. You don’t wanna start your first day at Burger King wearing your McDonald’s uniform. That would be funny to see though…

In your opinion who would be the most styled living musician?
I think guys like Pharrell have always shown the level of class that is right.. He never fails, he pretty much always looks on point…

What are your next projects?
Gunna stick with this one for a while, then I’ve been thinking of writing underneath the name « Holiday Adio », ain’t got a clue. What it would sound like…

San Francisco mystic producer oOoOO has released another song from his upcoming LP. This new track « Mouchette » sounds very similar to the blank and dark artwork that comes with it, except for the ghostly and haunting female vocal samples.

Yeah you heard it right the first time, the dark and alternative rapper Zebra Katz, collaborates with the over muscular Busta Rhymes. Such a crossover should be odd, but Busta apart from being a douchebag in real life, he’s a great rapper and he nailed the song.

R&B singer Cyber and rapper Green Hypnotic jump on a Kaytranada intrumental (Nevalie) and the result is a raunchy banger, perfect for the small and packed dance-floor. The video sees the three musicians having fun together in empty public places, they sure know how to spend a good time in Montreal.

After watching to the vid, you can be sure that Kaytranada is definitely going to produce some major artists in the near future and before he become the guy behind Mariah Carey next single, watch this video and then you can say you already love the guy’s music before everybody else, or hate it if you are much of a hater.

The next album from the Toronto R&B supertar The Weeknd, will be entitled Kiss Land (which is also the name of a dozen of love hotel in Tokyo).

Few infos have been shared about the album except the title track today. And it is a pretty huge info, eight minutes of sleazy and heartless lyrics over the usual (but great) alternative R&B instrumental. After listening to that I think I am ready to take a trip to « Kiss Land » ASAP.

KWALA INTERVIEW :

Who are you?
I’m Josh Gasaway and I make music as Kwala.

Tell us about your mix?
There’s not really a concept to this mix. It’s just a few tunes that I’ve been enjoying a lot recently.

What would be the best mood and place to listen to your music?
Well that’s up to you really, but I’ve found that a lot of the music that I’ve made so far isn’t very club friendly. I guess it’s more along the lines of headphone music, but I’m not saying that’s the only kind of music that I want to make. It just sort of happened that way.

I could think of two other dope musicians who used the term « Koala » in their moniker (Kid Koala and Dream Koala). What do you think, makes this little animal so cool?
I really couldn’t tell you. To be honest, I don’t really care for Koalas. Kwala is just a name my friend came up with really fast when I was trying to put a name with my music.

Can you explain the concept of « Visual album » behind your project Cosmic Village?
It was a pretty loosely structured project. I had been making short films with my friend Jacob for years and when I started making music, we decided we wanted to try and make some sort of audio/visual thing. We were also really inspired by this ‘visual album’ called Oddsac by a band called Animal Collective. It was basically this film without dialogue accompanied by music the entire time, but it was more than just a bunch of music videos. It had a cohesive feeling like a film even though you don’t really have any idea what’s going on the entire time. So that’s what we set out to make basically.

What are your next projects?
I don’t have any projects planned at the moment. I’m just going to go back to making music and experimenting for a while.

The gifted french producer Holy Strays previously release progressive and cold synth music on label like No Fear of Pop and Morning Rituals.

We are real fan of Holy Strays songs and we were more than happy and excited to learn that he have benn producing and playing drums and keys (yeah basically the only thing he’s not doing is singing) in a new-wave duo called MILAN with his friend Corentin Gallet.

MILAN first two songs are really cold and danceable like a good records from the 80′s, who’s experimenting too much and can’t seem to choose between organic post-punk and synthetic electronic music.

Youngsters meet up on the village outskirts, racing their tractorcars, burning tyremarks into the warm summer asphalt. The smell of rubber, oil and souped-up engines fills the air when the engines speed. The cars form into a circle as the boys take turns in the middle. It is a game – showing their skills – showing off to the girls. Strength is measured and proved – as if in a strange ritual mating dance.

The car of choice is known as an EPA tractor, a Swedish term for an older car converted for use as an agricultural machine. These became common in the 1930s and were previously called ‘car-tractors’. During the 1950s EPAs had almost died out as new tractors had come down in price and become more available. The EPAs were almost forgotten until youths discovered that the EPA law offered them a way to drive, even as 15 year-olds – and so during the 1960s and 1970s they became increasingly popular in rural areas. Tough rules are in force to restrict the gearing on the cars and their speed is supposed to be limited to 30 km per hour. There is also no suspension on the rear wheels, making them extremely uncomfortable to drive at high speed. However, the boys are skilled with cars and very creative when it comes to finding ways to bypass these legal and physical restrictions that limit the power and speed of the engines. The solutions they come up are numerous and are closely guarded secrets.

Who are you?
Romain Babeau, 29 years old, a Parisian like others who hate everyone but keeps smiling all the time!

What do you like to photograph?
I like to capture the moment, a moment of life, an expression! Most of my photos collect the ephemeral, few seconds later, there is nothing else to see! I also like to photograph what no one can not see but which is nevertheless crazy!

What type of camera do you use?
I work with devices I purchased in flee markets, I have a Canon AE1 and small snapshots like an old Yashica T4 or old Olympus! I just bought me a digital camera … We’ll see what happens!

In your opinion what does it take for a picture to be beautiful?
It is when I succeed  to communicate this little thing that pushed me to take a picture in the first place. It is when people have a something to say about my picture, because I managed to raise a question or provide one emotion.

What are the things you do not like to shoot or the topics you find too cliché?
There are so many photographers that everything has become cliché, it is for me to turn it differently ! I think I might as well shoot a guy dying on the sidewalk or a flower pot on a windowsill. What bothers me the most is when I have to ask a person to pose, it is kind of awkward!

Who are your favorite photographers?
Hard to say, I am following a lot of different photographers, for example I love both Terry Richardson and Saul Leiter. I also spend a lot of time on the Internet searching for anonymous photographers, unknown people like me who share their point of views on today’s world.

Quelles sont les choses que tu n’aimes pas prendre en photo ou les sujets que tu trouves trop clichés ?
Il y a tellement de photographes que tout est devenu cliché, a moi de le tournée différemment! Je crois que je pourrai photographier un mec mourant sur le trottoir comme un pot de fleurs sur un rebord de fenêtre! Ce qui me dérange le plus c’est quand je dois faire poser une personne, c’est très gênant!

Quels sont tes photographes préférés ?
Dur a dire, je suis pleins de photographes aux travaux complètement différent, je peu aimer du Terry Richardson comme du Saul Leiter! Je passe beaucoup de temps a chercher sur le web des photographes anonymes, des gens comme moi que personnes ne connait mais qui partagent leurs point de vue sur le monde actuel!

The cult NY label DFA turns 12 this year, to set the stone a short documentary is released through You Tube, which relates the entire DFA history from 2001 through nowadays.

Once in a while it’s good to watch animated films or series, because it helps to re-connect with your inner child, and I am not talking about CGI shit, but real classic hand drawn animation.

Out There is the kind of show I am talking about, plus it talks about young teenagers dealing with their own social awkwardness in a little town from the USA. Themes and topics are not very exciting or new, « Out There » basically deals with two young heroes trying to talk to girl or trying not to get pick up by the bullies of their school.

But what makes this animated series so different is the insane drawing style and the offbeat story rhythm. For example the character design is really sick are there animals, furry balls, monsters, fact is we don’t really care !

It’s safe to say that the the creator of « Out There » Ryan Quincy (who previously worked 14 years as a South Park showrunner), is inspired both by indie comics and quirky high-school sitcom, the result is really fresh and inspiring. This serie is definitely not revolutionary, but it feels so good to watch this 20-something minutes every week.

If you need more reasons to watch this series, know that during the ten episodes of « Out There » first season, we will also hear the voice of talented actors such as Jason Schwartzman, Sarah Silverman, Selma Blair and Ellen Page.

The project began in 2003 whilst on photography assignment at Download Festival. The band Slayer were playing and were delayed, it was a boiling hot day and everyone had been kept waiting for hours in a tent little air and no breeze and no one wanted to lose their place…people were getting anxious. After much chanting, shouting and growling the band eventually came on and the whole tent erupted with dust, spit and beer flying in all directions. It was an amazing show and one that myself and the rest of the audience I am sure will never forget.

In 2004 I followed Slayer on their Unholy Alliance European tour, photographing the fans inside and outside of the shows. The project has since been an ongoing one and i continue to photograph metal fans at a number of heavy metal festivals and shows around Europe. The project which originally went under the title Slayer Rules, has been exhibited in 5 different countries and published worldwide in a number of magazines and newspapers.
