Above is a Polar Opposites/Heart Cooks Brain promo CD. It released it radio stations in very limited quantities. It is perhaps the rarest music related item in the Modest Mouse world akin to the World at Large promo (that later of which is believed by some to not even exist).

Birds vs. Worms

There have been two pressings of Birds vs. Worms (500 per press/1,000 total). The first pressing was hand-numbered while the second pressing was not. I have scrounged up one from the second pressing and got it at a very good price of $50. Most of the time, BvW goes for upwards and over $100.

Above is the No One's First, and You're Next 12" vinyl which contains the songs from the Satellite Skin, Autumn Beds and Perpetual Motion Machine 7" (plus King Rat and Ive Got It All(most)). I also picked up The Great Rock n' Roll Swindle (CD) which contains the song "White Lies, Yellow Teeth" but I'll save that for another time.

BNOOS, EHNPT, SSS

Above is the Yo Yo a Go Go compilation which features a live version of "Dirty Fingernails". The song originally appeared on The Fruit That Ate Itself. This is one of the few compilations that actually has a unique song that is not on a regular album release.

Above is a Building Nothing Out of Something vinyl. This aren't extremely rare but they still end up going for over $60 usually.

Above is an original pressing of Sad Sappy Sucker on K records. The album has been re-issued on Glacial Pace but I recently got this original for a measly $18.

Lastly, we have a vinyl pressing of Everywhere and his Nasty Parlour Tricks which is an EP that has some of the same songs as Night on the Sun. This is a probably rarer than BNOOS and it fetches for over $50 typically. As always, you can click on the images to enlarge them. This Is a Long Drive Vinyl

Above is the 1996 release This is a Long Drive For Someone With Nothing To Think About. It has been out of print for almost 15 years. The album is in very good condition and only has slight tearing on the sleeves that house the individual records. The main sleeve also has the original shrink wrap bound to it and only a portion of the shrink wrap had been cut away so the sleeves could be pulled out.

Memorabilia

I don't have much Modest Mouse memorabilia but I'll give you a peek. Above his the first photo zine featuring Modest Mouse with photography done by Pat Graham. There is a second photo zine which I have yet to purchase but I believe both were published in limited quantities and the first is only available (at the moment) through a package deal on Issac's Glacial Pace website.

Above is a photo of Issac from the first photo zine. It is an actual photo and not cut from the book. The back is signed by Pat Graham.

Here is a Good News poster with a little bit torn from the bottom corner as you can see (product from moving). That is one of the reasons why I've started to frame all my posters.

Lastly, here is a print from the July 6, 2010 Kansas City show which featured Avi Buffalo. The print is hand numbered (50/74) and signed by the artist (couldn't decipher the signature).

12" Collection and A Closer Look at the Japanese Editions

Above is The Moon & Antarctica which was released last April (2010). So yes, it is the re-issue version. While I value originals more, re-issues are more economical. However, I would like to snag originals at some point.

Here shown is Good News for People Who Love Bad News and it is at least the third pressing. However, unlike the Moon and Antarctica re-issue which has a copyright 2000 AND 2010, you can only find a 2004 copyright on the re-issue of Good News. With the artwork on both re-issues being identical to the original pressings, this means you cannot tell the difference between the re-issue Good News and the original pressing. All numbers are identical (i.e. catalog number). "I've Got it All(most)" is also includes as the last track on the vinyl re-issue.

Now a closer look at the Japanese tour only Night on the Sun (1999) EP. Above is the booklet with Japanese lyrics and the translated English (strike that, reverse that).

Here is the track list, as you can see, the Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect? songs are bonus tracks.

Disc is the typical Starburst design but in black.

Modest Mouse 7" Vinyl Collection as of 4/24/11

Now, I'm going to present my 7" vinyl collection of Modest Mouse as of today. On the left above is a white version of the Lift of Arctic Sounds with Medication as the B-side. To my knowledge there has been more than one pressing of the white vinyl as it was available new from the label in that color last year. On the right is the newest pressing on CLEAR vinyl which was limited to 421 copies.

Above are three singles released in 2009. On top is the Satellite Skins single with Guilty Cocker Spaniels as the b-side on orange vinyl. Next is Perpetual Motion Machine with History Sticks To Your Feet on red vinyl and lastly Autumn Beds/The Whale Song on black vinyl. All three were limited to 4000 copies each but can still be obtained (as of today) on the Glacial Pace website for a decent price.

Here is the King Rat promotional vinyl with Fire it Up as the b-side. This was only available to those who pre-ordered We Were Dead on certain websites but my guess is that at least a couple thousand were pressed since they are not that hard to find. My pressing is misprinted because the side that says Fire it Up plays King Rat while the King Rat side plays Fire it Up. I am unsure at this point if others have experienced the same thing.

I have another 7" on the way and I'll keep you posted as I get more in.

First, I'm going to start of by presenting my CD collection of Modest Mouse. Beginning with the upper portion on the far left, we have This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, The Lonesome Crowded West, The Moon & Antarctica (2004 re-issue with bonus tracks), Sad Sappy Sucker,

Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again (official bootleg), Goods News for People Who Love Bad News, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank and Building Nothing Out of Something.

The picture above has EPS and singles. Beginning upper/left we have Interstate 8, Modest Mouse/746-Hero split EP, The Fruit that Ate Itself, Everywhere and his Nasty Parlour Tricks, Float On (Australian version with alternate Goods Times Are Killing Me and Bukowksi remix), Ocean Breathes Salty (w/ video), Dashboard w/ King Rat and No One's First and You're Next.

Above are some unusual pieces. First, is a Japanese edition of The Fruit That Ate Itself which includes the songs from the vinyl only Blue Cadet-3, Do You Connect? as bonus tracks. Then comes Night On the Sun (Japanese Tour EP) which has some alternate mixes and was limited to 700 copies. Lastly, there is a promo copy of Building Nothing Out of Something that isn't anything special other than being a promo CD.

That sums up my CD collection of Modest Mouse. If you've noticed I'm missing something or know where I can get other things I'm missing (i.e. Missed the Boat promo, Polar Opposites Promo and other promos) or special/foreign editions, give me a heads up!
